Adi Lederman Hacks Into Madonna’s Computer
You probably have an image of what it means to be a hacker, be it from movies, TV, or just what you generally imagine of someone who spends their time hacking into people’s information. That’s why it might surprise you to find out who was behind one of the biggest celebrity hacks of the past year. Adi Lederman was just sentenced to 14 months in prison as a result of the Madonna hacking that occurred last year. When he was sentenced in his home of Israel, he was also fined 15,000 shekels, which translates to around $4,000. Prior to this, Lederman was best known in Israel for his appearance on a TV show called A Star is Born, the Israeli equivalent of American Idol.
When Was Madonna Hacked?
The Madonna hacking first broke in December, when it was learned that tracks had been leaked. These tracks were from Madonna’s then-future, now current album, Rebel Heart, and at the time were not finished. Madonna herself was furious about the experience, referring to it as “invasion into my life.” An investigation by the FBI was started immediately, and in January the investigators of the Madonna hacking set their sights on Lederman. He was arrested under suspicion of the Madonna hacking, stealing her songs, and then illegally selling them. Lederman recently admitted to doing this as part of a plea bargain.
How Was Madonna Hacked?
During the Madonna hacking trial, it came to light, according to court papers, that Lederman hacked into email servers that had been used by 4 people. Among those people? Kevin Antunes and Guy Oseary, otherwise known as Madonna’s musical director and talent manager, respectively. In doing this, Lederman was able to get passwords to Cloud accounts which contained demos of new Madonna songs. Having copied and obtained these files, Lederman sold the demo tapes to two different buyers, each buying for $300. In a statement, the court said that due to the relative easiness with which the Madonna hacking occurred, they found it important to bring down a punishment that was uncompromising and let others know that this sort of behavior will not be tolerated.
