How To Control Your Dreams: Lucid Dreaming - http://clapway.com/2015/10/10/control-dreams-lucid-dreaming/

I once possessed the ability to fly. It was too short. It lasted about 10 minutes. I was dreaming. It’s been 10 years, but I still remember every detail of that dream. It’s an adventure I wish I could recreate. I’m sure all you adventure seekers would probably agree though; your dreams are sometimes better than real life. Only in my dreams could I travel around the world and not have to spend a dime. Only when I’m dreaming would it make sense for me to own a dog that can morph into a rabbit (true dream)…

Too bad real life is not always an adventure. Too bad real life can’t allow dog-morphing rabbits (or rabbiting morphing dogs?). With enough practice, however, you can turn your naptime into a form of active awake time with an endless amount of possibilities. I’m talking about controlling your dreams, folks!

In order to be able to control your dreams, you must first understand how to lucid dream. A lucid dreamer is a person who is aware that he or she is dreaming. By becoming aware of this fact while you are actually in a dream, you can ultimately manipulate the outcome of it, like it is a play.

Here are some tips on how:

1. Recognize your dream themes.

When you wake up from sleeping, try to record what dreams you have in a journal. Then identify some common themes. Maybe you frequently dream about your teeth falling out or about a certain person. These themes will later become clues that will help you figure out when you’re actually dreaming.

2. Reality checks

If you’ve ever watched the movie, Inception, you might be familiar with this technique. The characters use “totems”, such as a spinning top to help them distinguish between reality and dream state. To do this while dreaming, you must practice asking yourself (in real life) if what is happening could be possible in reality. This habit will then carry onto your dreams.

3. Choose your dream

Pick a topic you want to dream about and tell yourself that you are going to dream about that exact topic before you go to sleep. You can also do this step before you sleep.

If you follow all these steps, it is possible to make your “dream self” aware that he or she is dreaming. Try this at home tonight. Keep a dream journal and a pen in handy. After all, the real world is overrated. Time to have a real adventure.
