Amazon Prime has just introduced Showtime and Starz streaming onto their service, making for the most competitive platform on the web. Apple TV and Chromecast, unlike Amazon Prime, are hardware platforms that give similar services. Amazon Prime keeps it all on the web and on any device with the Amazon Video app.
Streaming Isn’t Free, But It’s A Step in the Right Direction
While these services don’t come free of charge, it provides Amazon Prime users a new commodity, so they can watch special channels from anywhere. The service still excludes giants like Netflix and Hulu.
Through what the company calls the Streaming Partners Program, Amazon Prime members will be able to get access to premium channels, and there is buzz that there could be a mass bundle on its way in the near future.
Here’s A Full List of the New Services
Smaller streaming services like Tribeca Shortlist and Curiosity Stream are offering content for the program. Other channels like Comedy Central are also contributing with shows like Comedy Central Stand-Up Plus for an additional $4 per month.
Other partners include: the A+E Network, AMC, Gaia, RLJ Entertainment, Dramafever, Cinedigm, Smithsonian, IndieFlix, Qello, FlixFling, BroadbandTV, DEFY Media, Gravitas and Ring TV Boxing. These services will give users access to worldwide television, from indie films to Asian soap operas and boxing matches. All straight to Amazon platforms in their devices.
Apple TV Will Certainly Catch Up
The Apple TV, though famous for having only its own content, should make a move to catch up. Simply integrating services like Hulu and Netflix will give the service a serious boost. Within the next year there are some big announcements to be expected out of Apple regarding the Apple TV. If it isn’t integrating existing platforms, it’s possible that it makes its own. This will put the Apple TV truly at the top of the game.
