Bill Nye’s Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation may set him up in hear to at least help change the world, but there are some distinct flaws in his basis. According to several reviews, who mostly call on Bill Nye for not wanting to compromise with other voices like Ken Ham on the theories of evolution, he’s also taken to creating a cult of personality rather than a scientist basing his thinking on fact.

Spiting Ken Ham Won’t Change the World Either

Because of his constant ranting against the Ken Ham line of thinking, the book loses a lot of opportunities to come to balance among theories of creation. The narrative, designed to make people want to face the facts and change the world as they know it, is a stark parallel to the beliefs of the Ken Hams of the world, and compromise would have been much more welcome and widely accepted. Unfortunately, the book forces you to choose, giving way for an unsophisticated and narrow-minded view of the present state of the universe, evolution vs. creation, and exploration.

Another striking drawback to the narrative is when the talk of evolution grows form being a tangible scientific theory to a philosophical world view, which he uses to argue religion. This has never changed the world before and it probably never will. Nye discusses creation in the religious view and the perception of the afterlife, which he apparently finds an unnecessary curiosity. Sadly, there is no way Bill Nye can assert what happens after death because there’s no one around to tell the tale. Go figure.

Bill Nye Could Change the Wolrd, but His Logic is Warped

Nye also refuses to acknowledge of the problematic nature of evolution and the vaguer parts of the theory, and takes the Tim Keller approach to it. By putting a stamp of approval on the Grand Theory of Evolution, Nye once again forces readers to adopt evolution as an all-encompassing dogma, and that argument will likely change the world as we live it, but perhaps not in the grandiose way he’s proposing.

Ultimately, Nye ends the book by urging readers to find their own conclusions about where we come from and what brought us here, and to take that knowledge and change the world. While that thinking isn’t original but has always started gears in people’s heads on how to change the world, it certainly doesn’t make his statements ‘undeniable.’

Bill Nye asserts that climate change is real and man-made, and that if we do nothing now, we will lose our planet. His new book, “Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World“, he urges society clearly and fiercely to protect our Earth and reverse what damage can be reversed.

Nye, former host of beloved scientific children’s show Bill Nye the Science Guy, appeals to the doubts, the shadows and what we don’t know to urge us to make change happen. This is his second book, the first having dealt with evolutionary science, and here he takes the role of an educator, where he is a seasoned veteran. His book is not like a textbook; it’s more of a long-winded episode of his popular series mixed with a charismatic call to action to the younger generation.

Bill Nye discusses reducing carbon prints, reconsidering nuclear power and genetically modified crops, and ultimately to not scream about how technology has wronged us, but how it has made us better. If technology is used with the right ideas in mind, Bill Nye assures that we can fight back against climate change.

All fans of Bill Nye the Science Guy will see a lot of him in this book, since he carries the same great enthusiasm and the light, experimental approach. But still Nye urges: if we only fear climate change and don’t fight against it, we will lose the planet we call home.

The definition of ‘sexy scientist’ should have a picture of Bill Nye right beside it. As a kid, Bill Nye fulfilled the role of making science cool to the eight year old me, but now Bill Nye has taken on the role of scientist of my dreams. I mean he’s tall with salt and pepper hair and can make science sound interesting; basically my adult fantasy guy.

Evolution using Emojis

First of all, he summed up evolution in a 1 minute 51 second YouTube video… amazing. Secondly, any guy, scratch that, any person who can sum up evolution using text emojis deserve the title of “Sexiest Person Alive.” He used all of my favorite emojis from the twin dancing girls to the heart eyes smilie. Not only did he incorporate emojis, his overall explanation was comprehensive and informative to all viewers. Bravo Bill, bravo.

Climate Change using Emojis

Bill got after the emoji game again when he explained climate change in the same format as his evolution video. Uploading this to YouTube again, Bill showed us how interactive and easy to understand climate change is all while using our favorite emojis. This begs the question; is there anything this guy can’t do with emojis?

Dance Machine Bill Nye

Be still my beating heart. When I heard that the love of my life Bill Nye was going to be on Dancing with the Stars, I almost cried with happiness. I was going to see a gawky, tall, awkward scientist ballroom dance and if he had made it further in the competition, maybe a hip hop ditty. But alas, he only made it to the second week but still left us with the following beautiful robot. You’ll always be my star Bill.

90’s Bill

90s Bill is probably the most important Bill to me. My favorite part about his TV show was how he could make science and harder to learn topics interesting by explaining it in a way that kids understand. When my science teacher would throw on a Bill Nye the Science Guy episode, my friends and I would jump out of our seats and sing along to the theme song (Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill!). And every time when he said, “Science Rules” I would shake my head in agreement enthusiastically. Science does rule Bill.

Oh Bill you’ve done so much for this world and I hope you continue to create amazing science pieces. My heart will always flutter a bit when the topic of evolution is brought up because it will forever remind me of you. Bill Nye’s Kickstart-funded LightSail project has been temporarily halted, after the prototype satellite experienced a computer malfunction during its lower Earth orbit. The solar sail spacecraft launched just last week, and was backed by The Planetary Society, Nye’s organization. The mission for the spacecraft was to use energy solely from the sun to power its motion through space. Currently, communication between the LightSail and Earth has stopped.

The LightSail’s original mission: an experiment for solar sails

Just last week, the LightSail was launched atop the Atlas V rocket at Cape Canaveral, in Florida. The solar sail aircraft included a CubeSat equipped with a 344-square-foot mylar sail, which served to detect invisible, accelerating particles expelled from the sun. The solar “wind” would theoretically and physically work like the wind at sea, where the boat’s sails are used to propel the ship forward. The solar sail would be “pushed” through space by the force of solar wind.

However, the primary goal of the mission was to see if the sails on the LightSail could successfully expand in space. The deployment of the sails was scheduled to happen much later, only after a series of data “chirps” were sent back consistently to Earth, indicating the position of the spacecraft and other important information. Flight controllers have received successful chirps for two consecutive days, but over the weekend, the satellite stopped sending signals.

What next for Bill Nye’s LightSail?

The scientists monitoring the solar sail’s behavior have deduced that the satellite’s Linux-based software system ultimately couldn’t contain the size of the data emitted by the chirps sent to Earth. The more beacons transferred via the chirps, the larger the file size would grow. When the file reaches a size of 32 megabytes, the flight system could have reached maximum capacity and crashed.

The team at the Planetary Society has to unfortunately put the LightSail mission on hold until they can fix this technical issue. Currently, scientists are hoping to reboot the system, by giving it commands every time the spacecraft passes a ground control station. They’re also hoping that charged particles in space will strike an electrical component on the LightSail and help “wake it up.” For the time being, it seems, the solar sail spacecraft remains frozen.

The Planetary Society, chaired by Bill Nye, recently put out and promoted a Kickstarter campaign that would produce the LightSail. The LightSail “solar sail” is a piece of fabric that sails on photon power. This propulsion system is now moving a satellite around Earth orbit, having been successfully launched on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket that was also carrying the X-37B space plane and a total of 10 CubeSats.

The solar sail launch was pushed back by problems with the Air Force’s secretive X-B37 spaceplane.

The solar sail, originally an idea of astronomer Carl Sagan, has been championed by Bill Nye and the Planetary Society. They raised their original $200,000 goal, needed to build the sail, in less than a day using a Kickstarter campaign, and planned to launch a SolarSail-powered craft by May 6th. However, the launch date was pushed back to yesterday, the 20th, because the Air Force was troubleshooting the X-37B.

The launch went as expected, and all of the Atlas rocket’s payload was unloaded at the right altitudes. This is more or less as far as we know, though, since there was a part of the launch that is unaccounted for. On account of the X-37B, there was a window of time during which no information was reported. The Air Force has been very secretive about the X-37B, to the point that we don’t even know which of the two existing spaceplanes was sent up. The test is said to have involved on-board experiments, about which next to nothing is known. It also had two other experiments that we do know about: one testing a new ion thruster used by military communication satellites, the other testing the effects of space exposure on 100 different materials.

The LightSail solar sail itself is made from three CubeSats and four deployable solar sails made from Mylar. The craft is currently too low to effectively solar sail, since it’s going to get caught up in atmospheric drag. The point of the experiment, though, was to test the sail deployment sequence and critical systems, in preparation for the extended mission scheduled to take place in 2016. Since everything about this launch is looking good, we can expect to hear much more about the LightSail’s progress in the coming year.
