Lil Wayne and Drake are two rappers that are very popular. However, they do have their naysayers, and rightfully so I might add. There are so many other African American people who deserve way more respect than Drake and Lil Wayne.
NUMBER 1
Madame CJ Walker is the woman responsible for creating hair lotion for black women. Way back in the 1800’s, she was born into slavery and became an entrepreneur. Once she did this, she invented hair lotion. She is a very inspirational woman, but she still gets overlooked for Lil Wayne and Drake.
NUMBER 2
One of the most prolific African American inventors of all time is Fredrick McKinley. He is responsible for inventing several things, but maybe his best was the refrigerator. McKinley was the very first man to develop this, and he did it for the long-haul trucks way back in the early 1900’s.
NUMBER 3
Scientists sure have to tip their hat to George Alcorn. For those of you who do not know, Alcorn was responsible for inventing the imaging x-ray spectrometer. This device helps scientists identify a material by producing an x-ray spectrum out of it.
NUMBER 4
Our next African American, who deserves more respect than Lil Wayne and Drake, is Garrett Morgan. Morgan, in the early 1900’s invented the gas mask. He used this to save several men who were trapped in an explosion. After this event, Morgan and his team received requests from the fire departments to use his gas masks.
NUMBER 5
The person who might deserve the most respect on this list is Otis Boykin. He is responsible for inventing several electronic devices, but one of the main ones was an improved electrical resistor for televisions, radios, and computers. Also, he created the control unit for the pacemaker, which might actually be his best invention.
