The Breach Raised Concerns on How VTech Stores Data

The letter stated that authorities held suspicions about how the company was using children’s data, as well as whether or not it shares or sells it. The authorities demand VTech reveal how they protect the data and if it is in accordance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, which enables parents to control their children’s data.

VTech Had Not Protected Their Database Well Enough

After announcing that the data of 4.9 million adults had been stolen from their database, and now they’ve added that the data of 6.4 million children is also at risk. The company has stated that they are entirely at fault.

The majority of the information, they revealed, belonged to people in the United States. The company could be facing private lawsuits from customers all over the world, and their shares have fallen 2.73% since the cyberattack was announced. Authorities have requested answers to their concerns by January 8.

Cyber Attacks Are Becoming More and More Common

The last quarter of this year has seen a lot of breaches on the web, which means cyber security must be strengthened. All companies should seek to protect their databases to the best of their ability.

VTech is Hacked - Private Information of 200,000 Kids is Stolen - http://clapway.com/2015/11/28/vtech-hacked-private-information-200000-kids-stolen/

Something catastrophic has happened and it certainly is not pretty. VTech is an electronic toy maker and it has been announced that they have been hacked. Unfortunately, hacking happens quite frequently, but this has reportedly been deemed as one of the biggest hacks of all-time. VTech announced that nearly 5 million parents and more than 200,000 children now have some of their private information exposed.

VTECH IS NOW IN THE RECORD BOOKS, BUT NOT IN THE WAY THEY WANT

A website known as Have I Been Pwned, which deals with data breaches, noted that this was the fourth largest hack ever recorded. This now puts VTech in the record books however, it is not imagined that this is the way they would want to be documented. According to Motherboard, the personal information that was revealed through this awful incident includes names, passwords, email addresses, and also home addresses. While from the naked eye there is nothing that appears to bad, but all it takes is a little information for somebody to mess your life up. It has been reported that the hacker was the one who told Motherboard of the information and that the hacker was actually asked what the point of the hack was. The hacker then reportedly said nothing as in the actual word itself. He said there was no reason for the hack, so why on earth perform the hack? It takes a lot if nerve for the hacker to say what he said, but that is a hacker for you.

WHAT WILL VTECH’S RESPONSE BE?

VTech reportedly recently contacted all of their customers via an email and expressed that they are carrying out an investigation right away and are implementing steps to prevent this from happening again. This is all that they have stated at the moment, but hopefully they will be able to find out who was responsible for this catastrophe. As mentioned earlier, VTech is certainly not the only company to get hacked, but how they respond to this will say a lot about the company. Customers will also have to decide if they ever want to do business with them again and risk their information getting leaked again. It will be an intriguing next couple of months for VTech.
