Tesla Motors Inc. claimed it’s performing its largest-ever recall of all 90,000 Model S vehicles as a result of a malfunction in their seat belts. The malfunction was initially found a Model S in Europe with a seat belt that was not properly attached to the outboard.

This is the Largest Recall for the Model S Yet

There are no accidents or injuries associated with the malfunctioning cars, but in the occasion of a collision, a seat belt that is malfunctioning would certainly not supply full protection, putting drivers and passengers at risk. Tesla began supplying the Model S to customers in June 2012. All versions of the P85D are affected by the voluntary recall. Tesla shares dropped 2.3 percent to $216.66.

No Other Issues on the Model S

The Palo Alto, California-based firm stated it has actually found no other issues. Tesla is asking owners to bring their cars in to check for any additional issues. By putting these cars through an evaluation, Tesla may better assess any damages to the Model S note yet documented.

The Dodge Viper is one of the most awe inspiring and illustrious cars in the world, and also is this writer’s ultimate dream car, but reports say that the Dodge Viper could meet its ultimate and sad end in 2017.

This unfortunate news of the Viper’s demise was reported by Automotive News. The Dodge Viper’s are made at the Connor Avenue Assembly and a UAW contract states that the current model production for Dodge’s illustrious beauty will end in 2017 and it is reported that there is no intention of any future models. Basically, what this means is that if you would like a brand new Dodge Viper, you better get one by 2017. The decision, which has not been commented on by Dodge yet, was most likely ultimately made due to the fact that the Dodge Viper was not selling the best this year.

According to reports, Dodge only sold around 500 Viper’s in 2015 through September.

Also adding on to the fact, Dodge has numerous other elite selling vehicles, including the very popular Dodge RAM trucks, so Dodge should not be too hurt by this decision.

The people that will most likely be hurt the most by this news is not Dodge, but it is the fans. As mentioned previous, Dodge will be fine after this considering they have several other prestigious models that are selling well. However, true fans of the Dodge Viper will be devastated by this news to know that one of their favorite cars is about to fall of the face of the earth. Now obviously their will still be Dodge Viper’s in the world, given that people will keep them and treat them with care, but this will make them even more rare and prestigious in the future.

This news will also make any people who currently own a Viper, or plan to own one by 2017, more aware and cautious to take even better care of theirs.

A host of criticism is almost always to be expected with the introduction of new and potentially revolutionary technologies. Take for example, the Google self-driving car, which has been under the watchful eye of skeptics everywhere since the announcement of its anticipated release. In September of last year, as an example, four of 50 or so test vehicles got into accidents and a recent study also revealed that autonomous cars might even be too safe to drive effectively on human-dominated roads. So, when news of a homemade $60 laser – reportedly capable of disabling a self-driving car – surfaced on the web, we can’t say we were too surprised.

HOW TO HALT A SELF-DRIVING CAR

According to Jonathan Petit, a security researcher at Security Innovation, a simple “laser pointer” can trick a vehicle into perceiving objects ahead of it when there are none. How is this possible? Well, a self-driving car is fitted with sensors, lasers and GPS technology, according to PC Mag, which allow the vehicle to navigate without added assistance from a driver.

THE LASER TECHNOLOGY IS BEHIND THE HACK

Today, most self-driving cars rely on Lidar laser-ranging technology, which creates 3D renderings of the cars’ surroundings through laser pulses. Unfortunately, this means that any standard laser pen, fitted with a pulse generator, could produce “ghost-like” projections that easily confuse the self-driving car system into thinking objects are in its pathway.

“I can spoof thousands of objects and basically carry out a denial of service attack on the tracking system so it’s not able to track real objects,” Petit told IEEE Spectrum.

For the time being, the hack has not been proven to work in a real life situation, as Petit has only tested it on the Lidar system itself. However, his test does highlight the need for more thorough testing to be conducted before any autonomous vehicles hit the road anytime soon. In the meantime, Petit’s findings will be presented at the Black Hat Europe conference, taking place in November.
