The car company known as Citroen has officially announced that they are releasing a new model. They stated that this car will be an electric model named E-Mehari. They stated that it will be released in France in the spring of next year. It looks like they have created their own version of a Tesla electric car.

THE DETAILS OF CITROEN’S NEW CAR

The company has announced that the battery installed in the car is a 30kWh Lithium Metal Polymer battery. They say that this battery is completely immune to any weather conditions. Meaning that there is no chance of this battery getting damaged when receiving precipitation. The company announced that the time it takes to charge the battery will depend on what kind of socket the consumer has. A 10A socket will take around 13 hours to re-charge. If you have a 16A socket it will only take around 8 hours to fully re-charge.

Tesla is known and is famous for creating cars that run on electricity. Considering this car is being released in France, this can be thought of as their version if the Tesla. Of course, as time goes on electric powered cars are sure to get more popular. The company has not teased any sort of information that they actually got this idea from Tesla, but Tesla is the standard bearer for electric cars.

CITROEN GIVES CUSTOMIZATION FEATURES

The company has also announced that they will give their customers many different color options for their new model. They are going to be offering blue, orange, yellow, and beige body colors. They also state the choice between a black roof or an orange-red roof. The last color option that the company has announced is the cabin trim colors of either beige or orange-red. There is no doubt that anybody could find a good combination of colors with what Citroen is offering.

Apple and BMW have reportedly engaged in negotiations over Apple’s interest in using BMW’s i3 electric car as a basis for its own electric car project, according to a news report from a German publication.

APPLE IS MAKING A LOT OF CAR-RELATED HIRES

The news of Apple’s work on building an electric vehicle was first reported earlier this year with reportedly hundreds of employees working on the project after approval from Tim Cook a year earlier. It was later revealed that some of Apple’s key team members and new hires from the automotive industry are currently working on this project. Earlier this week, Apple hired Doug Betts, who is the former Senior Vice President of the Chrysler Groups and the global head of operations leading product service and quality. Apple also hired Paul Furgale, who is a researcher with a specialization in autonomous vehicles.

APPLE CEO AND EXECUTIVES VISITED BMW IN GERMANY

According to news reports, the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, along with other Apple executives, recently met with BMW in Leipzig, Germany to visit the car maker’s i3 product line. Apple is allegedly interested in the carbon fiber shell that the i3 is manufactured with.

BMW’s i3 was a very well received electric car that gets around 80 miles on a charge and has an optional gas-based range extender which can add a few gallons worth of range to the vehicle for longer commutes. However, this is not going to become a game-changing car.

APPLE IS TO MAKE MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS TO I3 MODEL

If Apple is indeed going to use the i3 model, they will have to do some major work to make the i3 more industry breaking. This wouldn’t be very uncommon for Apple, who have been known the incorporate more features that aren’t available from the competition when it enters markets.

This automotive industry is one of the few meaningful additions to the Apple scale. Electric vehicles and cars that can operate on autopilot have been taking off within in the past few years. Apple’s interest is not surprising, as Google has been working with cars for a while.

The report says that Apple has been in negotiations with BMW since the fall of last year, but have yet to come to an agreement.

A Google self-driving car that was testing self-driving technology to be featured in Google’s upcoming “koala car” almost got into an accident with a rival self-driving Audi from the company Delphi Automotive. Delphi Automotive said that they had to take appropriate action after reportedly getting cut off by the Google self-driving car.

THE FIRST OF ITS KIND

This close call between Google and Delphi is the first ever incident that involved two separate self-driving cars.

The new development comes following a report from Google in May, revealing its own group of cars as having had 11 minor accidents since the program began in 2009. The director of this program, Chris Urmson, noted that not one self-driving car was the direct cause of an accident. He also said that many of these accidents involved the car being rear ended by another vehicle.

This is clearly quite common among companies with self-driving vehicles. Delphi Automotive, a self-driving car startup, reported that they had an accident with one of their own cars in October of 2014. The accident report showed that it was broadsided by another car while it was waiting to make a left turn. However, the Delphi Automotive car was not actually in self-driving mode at the time of the accident. Under California law, it was still required to report the accident.

As of May 2014, there were a total of seven companies that held testing permits in the state. This allowed them to operate a total of 48 self-driving vehicles. None of the other five companies has reported any accidents with its cars.

KOALA cars ARE GOING TO BE EVERYWHERE

Also on Thursday, Google announced that its self-driving cars, which it nicknamed Koala cars, are going to be taking to public roads soon. The company states that they are designed to work without pedals or a steering wheel. During the current phase they will have safety drivers in the car with a removable steering wheel, accelerator pedals and a brake pedal. These features allow the safety driver to take over driving if needed. The car’s speed is capped at 25 mph, and it will use the same software that the Lexus uses.
