How to Fight a Bear - http://clapway.com/2015/10/11/how-to-fight-a-bear123/

Your worst nightmare has come true while camping. Upon hearing low muffled growls and the sound of rustling leaves, you nervously leave the comfort of your tent, only to find yourself staring straight into the eyes of a 4-feet tall, 300-pound bear. You’ve never been religious, but unconsciously, you begin to recite an incorrect, but highly creative version of the Lord’s Prayer.

It’s a silent standoff – and you’ve been holding you’re breath for over a minute now.

If only you had taken the necessary steps to prevent a bear from finding your campsite. Or better yet, it’s never to late to learn how to fight a bear. Here’s how:

1. Make as much noise as possible
Bang pots and pans if you have to – noise, and especially loud noises, scare bears. If you have a radio, crank that baby up to full volume and watch the bear’s reaction as you sing along to the “Billboard Top 100”. For all you other hardcore, nature loving, technology-hating type of outdoors people, yelling or whistling will also do.

2. Act aggressively
Be aggressive; create a scene. This is not the time to be self-conscious. Dancing like an idiot might be off-putting, but it will also confuse the heck out of the bear.

3. Make yourself appear bigger
In order to intimidate the bear, you want to make yourself appear much bigger than you actually are. A simple way to do this is to raise your hands up in the air over your head. For those shorter folks out there, swinging a jacket or scarf might come in handy if your arm span isn’t too large.

4. And if all else fails, RUN.
Run, run, RUN – but have the common sense that a bear is bigger than you and can therefore run faster. Resort to running if that’s the only option left, but remember to keep away from steep hills, inclines or rocky areas. And if you happen to be camping with a friend, just outrun him or her.

How To Overcome Your Nerves And Win - http://clapway.com/2015/10/11/how-to-overcome-your-nerves-and-win123/

Whether it’s standing on a stage or behind a startling line, performing and competing can be scary…palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy-Eminem-kind-of-scary. And it isn’t scary because you necessarily want to win, though come on, you always do. Performing and competing is scary because it puts you on the spot in front of everyone, or at least what feels like everyone, with only one chance to accomplish your mission. And while there may be other competitors, it always feels like you – and only you – are the one being closely inspected under a microscope. So naturally, you get nervous, freeze up, and lose sight of your purpose. Well, not anymore. Here are four tips on how to overcome your nerves and win, the keys to successfully conquering your nerves before the big day:

1. Forget What’s On The Line

Maybe it’s something or maybe it’s nothing – either way, forget about it (or at least try to). The best way to psych yourself out is by solely focusing on what’s at stake. Sure, something huge can be on the line – a scholarship, for instance – but what good will reevaluating the prize over and over again do? None. It’ll stress you out even more, with dozens of “what if” scenarios that’ll scatter your mindset and ultimately drag you off course.

2. Practice Like You Mean It

What you do beforehand makes all the difference in how you deliver the day of. Feel the weight of your performance before you have to deliver it for real. Whether it’s skating, cycling, or running, practice like you’re already at the event and prepare mentally as well as physically. This way, you’ll feel much more prepared and consequently less nervous when the day actually arrives.

3. Prepare For Mistakes

This may seem counterintuitive to always performing at your very best, but expecting the worst is the best practice in managing yourself when something unpredictable is hurled your way. Learn how to roll with the punches, because the punches are inevitable: Mistakes aren’t as much mistakes as they are a structured part of competing. They happen to the best of us, and to the worst of us, so it’s time we learn how to efficiently respond.

4. Prepare.

And then there’s how you prepare on the day of. Be early. Disconnect. Eat. Hydrate. Stretch. Breathe—don’t’ forget to breathe. And relax. There’s no one all-encompassing solution to overcoming your nerves, but there is always another event to attend or competition to perform in.

Best of luck!

How to Obtain a Photo of Yourself (Without Taking a Selfie) - http://clapway.com/2015/10/11/how-to-obtain-photo-oneself-traveling-alone-without-taking-selfie123/

Selfie’s are an unfortunate chic that has gotten way out of hand. It’s often the banner placed upon us by the generation before us so they can compulsively write New York Times articles about how self centered we are to keep their old blood from turning into starch.

But it’s not all their fault.  We kids do take an inordinate amount of selfies.  No matter how ironic you think you’re being, selfies always make you look like an asshole pirate with half an arm.

When traveling alone, it can be especially hard to prove that you were actually at Stonehenge without disturbing the sacred ground of the sleeping druids with your bitchy hashtag facial expressions, but it can be done!  Here are is how to obtain a photo of yourself without taking a selfie:

1. Ask someone to take the picture for you.
There’s bound to be someone in the area that thinks you’re cute enough that they would be willing to spend 20 seconds looking at you through a lens while you stand like a goddamn pioneer next to the Statue of Liberty.

2. Ask someone politely to take a picture of you.
Hey, some people need a little buttering up to get them to do what you want.  Luckily you’re not a sad little hobo in a Winnie the Pooh costume in Times Square, so you’re not charging them to take your picture.  Give’em a little ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and you’ll have something to send your mom when she asks if you’re ok.

3. Bribery.
We’re not just talking money here.  Animal heads, precious stones and even tasteful sexual favors are accepted as currency in other countries.  This method is highly recommended in places such as Sicily because it’s hard to get those Italians to do anything without a little somethin’ somethin’.

4. Delve into voodoo wizardry.
Look, if someone doesn’t want to take your picture, fine.  But if saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ or even a little kissy kiss on the nose isn’t working, you gotta bring out the dark magic, dawg.  Steal a lock of their hair and make them become your unwilling slave using powerful love spells, or summon a fanged beast from a Lovecraftian netherworld that will force them to submit to your demands to have a nice picture of you at the Hoover Dam.

5. Ask the fanged beast from the netherworld to take your picture.
Chances are they don’t have cameras in dimension Luxicron, but it’s worth a shot if his fingers aren’t coated with an otherworldly, camera destroying acid.

6. Take a picture of someone that kinda looks like you.
This one probably works better if you happen to be dressed like a Hassidic Jew while vacationing in Jerusalem.

7. Give up.
Screw it.  Just… screw it.  Not even just screw the picture, but, like, just screw life in general. Stay here in Nepal and become one of the monks. Who cares anymore? What’s that? You will take my picture? Oh my gosh you’re so nice! No, no get in here! Close, I want one of us together! Selfie!
