Research Shows Caffeine is Not Bad for Children - http://clapway.com/2015/11/22/research-shows-that-caffeine-is-not-bad-for-children123/

Caffeine Isn’t Bad for Newborns

A new study suggests modest caffeine usage while pregnant does not hurt a baby’s future intelligence or behavioral health. The research was performed by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and published in the American Journal of Epidemiology and concluded that there was no evidence linking moderate caffeine usage (2 cups per day) with behavior issues or obesity in kids.

The Study Started in 1959

Researchers studied blood samples of over 2,000 expectant mothers between the years of 1959 and also 1974, a period when caffeine intake was more widespread due to the lack of care relating to the substance, to complete the research.

There Were No Adverse Effects Related to Caffeine, But Mothers Should Always Be Careful

The results showed that women that ingest moderate quantities of caffeine during pregnancy had no problems in their pregnancy, nor did it have any negative effects on the children related to behavior or obesity.

In any case, pregnant mothers need to be careful with the things they eat and drink during pregnancy, as everyone has different sensitivities and could be affected by a number of things. Women who are expecting should monitor their diets carefully with their doctors to ensure there won’t be any health issues for the mother or the child.

You might want to nix that evening cup of #coffee. Turns out #caffeine can really throw off your #circadian rhythm. - http://clapway.com/2015/09/17/coffee-circadian-rhythm123/

You might want to nix that 5:00 p.m. end-of-the-workday coffee that you always reach for. The University of Colorado in Boulder, in conjunction with Medical Research Council’s Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, England, recently published a study in Science Translational Medicine that shows how caffeine can actually alter your circadian rhythm.

How the study was conducted

Although it’s no secret that coffee can keep you awake, the research reveals what caffeine actually does to the body; it essentially slows down the internal clock in your cells, causing you to stay up later in the night.

The study, led by Kenneth Wright, involved five people who were kept in an area at CU Boulder’s Sleep and Chronobiology Laboratory for 49 days. The participants were placed in one of the following settings: under low light conditions with a caffeine pill, under low light conditions with a placebo pill, under bright light conditions with a caffeine pill, and under bright light conditions with a placebo pill. The varying levels of light were included in the study because light is known to affect the body’s circadian rhythm. Although it is a natural, biological process, artificial light tricks our bodies into thinking it is still bright out, which can cause us to want to stay up.

In order to gather data on our internal clocks, researchers took samples of everyone’s saliva, which contains melatonin, a substance involved in the synchronization of the circadian rhythms of physiological functions, such as sleep timing. The level of melatonin increases when the body believes it’s time to sleep, and decreases when it’s time to wake up.

From the test, the researchers were able to determine that the circadian rhythms of the participants who took the caffeine pill under low lighting conditions were pushed back 40 minutes. With lighting and caffeine, the clock was set back another 65 minutes, for a total of 105 minutes of disrupted time.

The study also concentrated on how caffeine affects other areas of the body. Researchers, for example, were able to determine that caffeine actually blocks adenosine, which is a neurotransmitter that usually suppresses the arousal of a person and helps the body prepare itself for sleep.

Could Coffee Be the Cure for Colon Cancer? - http://clapway.com/2015/08/18/could-coffee-be-the-cure-for-colon-cancer123/

There are approximately 200,000 to 3 million cases of colon cancer in the US each year; could coffee be cure for this illness? According to Diane Stern, co-anchor of WBZ News, drinking coffee daily seems to reduce the risk of colon cancer. In fact, the Dana-Farber Institute in Boston conducted a study revealing that “those who drank four or more cups of regular (not decaf) coffee per day saw the most benefit.”

Could Coffee Really Be the Cure for Colon Cancer?

Dr. Charles Fuchs, the director of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Center at the Dana-Farber Institute, led the study which examined 950 people suffering from advanced colon cancer who also went through surgery and chemotherapy. Patients suffering from stage III colon cancer and drank four cups (460 milligrams) of coffee daily lowered their risk of recurrence by 42 percent. “Even people who regularly drank slightly less (two to three cups) per day appeared to reap some of the same benefits, just to a lesser degree,” said Alan Mozes, reporter for HealthDay.

The Results Of The Study

329 participants experienced the recurrence of colon cancer within five years of the trial and 288 patients died of the terminal illness. “The researchers found that drinking two cups of caffeinated coffee daily was associated with a reduced risk for cancer recurrence and colon cancer death. That protection was even greater for those consuming three or four cups of coffee daily,” reported Mozes. However, despite the positive results of the experiment, researchers believe telling their patients to drink coffee as treatment/cure for colon cancer would be a rash decision, especially since there is only a 35 percent chance of colon cancer recurrence after treatment.

Granted coffee still has negative health effects such as weight gain, skin wrinkles and Osteoporosis. It’s also important to note “that this study was only designed to find an association between coffee consumption and a lower risk of colon cancer recurrence or death from colon cancer. It wasn’t designed to prove a cause-and-effect relationship,” said Mozes. Past studies have shown that coffee also has protective components against other cancers; postmenopausal breast cancer, melanoma, liver cancer and advanced prostate cancer. Although doctors do not intend to prescribe coffee to cancer patients; coffee may be responsible for the decrease in cases of colon cancer in the U.S. we expect to see next year.

Great! #Starbucks makes it possible to get #wasted there AND recover from your everyday #hangover. - http://clapway.com/2015/08/18/starbucks-coffee-shop-by-day-bar-by-night-234/

Welcome to Starbucks! Would you like an Iced White Chocolate Mocha Espresso or a glass of our best Pinot Grigio? — This could be the greeting you receive from your next Starbucks cashier. Starbucks wants to increase their visitors and provide a comfortable place for people before and after a day at work. 70 Starbucks locations nationwide will begin serving alcohol tomorrow during the launching of “Starbuck Evenings.”

Coffee Shop and Bar

Two in New York City, five in Denver, and a host of other locations will partake in “Starbucks Evenings.” “Starbucks created the Evenings menu to give customers a place to begin and end their day,” said Alyssa Zauderer, report for PIX 11 news. “Starbucks Evenings” will begin after 4 p.m. The menu for each location will differ based on the opinion of the public and local companies.

Although only 70 out of 12,000 locations will begin serving alcohol tomorrow, Starbucks has submitted liquor licenses for hundreds of their locations. After five long years of working towards this goal, the company hopes by the end of this year each and every liquor license will be approved. Five years from now the company hopes to have 2,000 locations licensed to sell alcohol.

Wine or Beer?

“Red, white and sparkling wines are also available, alongside a local Brooklyn craft beer,” said Carly LedBetter, writer for the Huffington Post. Beverages containing alcohol cost $6- $15. They are served with dishes that are not typically sold at Starbucks. “Small plates include truffle mac & cheese, chicken skewers, artichoke & goat cheese flatbread, meat balls with tomato basil sauce, bacon-wrapped dates, a cheese plate and truffle popcorn,” said Aaron Smith, writer for Channel3000.com.

Baristas and Bartenders

“Baristas will have to learn a bigger menu and learn to prepare the small plates. On top of that, not every employee will be able to serve alcohol depending on what state they work in,” said Victor Jacobo, writer for touchvision.com, “But Starbucks is convinced this move will boost business.” Starbucks typically sells scones, donuts and coffee. The company is guaranteed to make more money and attract more customers because Starbucks offers a great deal of new menu options.

Can Too Much Coffee Consumption Can Be A Bad Thing? - http://clapway.com/2015/08/02/can-too-much-coffee-can-be-a-bad-thing753/

According to research, the third most popular drink in the world could put you at risk for some unsavory effects. Researchers found that moderate levels of caffeine could protect the protect the brain from rogue proteins that can destroy neurons leading to memory loss. However, a new study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease made headlines on Thursday. The study said that if coffee consumption is changed over time, even in the slightest way, it could potentially harm someone’s memory and thinking skills under certain circumstances.

RESEARCH SHOWS THAT INCREASED COFFEE CONSUMPTION OVER TIME ISNT GOOD

Italian Researchers at the University of Bari Aldo Moro charted the coffee consumption and neurological health of over 1,400 Italians from the ages of 65 and 84 over the course of three years. They found that those who drank an average of two cups of coffee per day were less likely to develop mild cognitive impairment (MCI) than those who don’t drink coffee. The research also showed that if the subject increased their coffee consumption throughout their life, they also had a change of experiencing some mild cognitive impairment that was around one and a half times higher in comparison to those who kept their coffee consumption steady throughout their life.

A LARGER SCALE STUDY SHOWED THAT MEN WHO DRINK COFFEE CAN LIVE 10 PERCENT LONGER

A larger scale study that involved over 400,000 older adults showed that men who drink two cups of coffee a day lived around 10 percent longer than their peers who didn’t drink coffee. The biggest question is, what kind of effect does coffee have on the brain? Researchers show that having two or more cups of coffee, or never drinking coffee can put you at risk for developing the conditions that cause early memory loss that can sometimes lead to Alzheimer’s.

MODERATE AND REGULAR COFFEE CONSUMPTION IS A GOOD THING

Moderate and regular coffee consumption might have neuroprotective effects that fight against mild cognitive impairments. The research also shows that the studies previously done showing that there could be a long term benefit to drinking coffee, tea or other forms of caffeine give drinkers protection from cognitive decline due to the plasma levels that coffee provides.
