David Mayman, test pilot and inventor, was seen flying over the New York Habor in his own company’s JB-9 jetpack in an impressive feat worthy of James Bond himself. Fittingly enough, with the release of Spectre this Friday, it seems that the idea of a man flying through the skies in a jetpack has been accelerated.
Jetpack Aviation, Mayman’s company, hopes to do just that. He took a test flight right around the Statue of Liberty. According to the company, their JB-9 jetpack can take people 10,000 feet above ground and travel ad speeds of up to 100 mph. It can soar for about 10 minutes before it has to be refueled, but it’s labeled as the world’s only true jetpack. It can fit in the back of a car and will be widely available in the market. It’s even been approved for flight by the United Sates Federation Aviation Administration and US Coast Guard.
Jetpack Aviation is not the only company looking to bring jetpacks to the market, as Martin Aviation is also developing their own jetpack. For the price of $150,000, clients can fly for more than 30 minutes at up to 46 mph, but it won’t fit in the trunk of a car.
