HP and Movado have joined forces to officially announce that they are set to release their brand new bold motion smartwatch. There is no official announcement about when this smartwatch will be released, but it can be assumed it will be available in time for the holidays.

This new motion smartwatch, although reported at being $795 at retail, could very much be worth it after reading its fantastic features. According to HP and Movado, this smartwatch will come with Bluetooth connectivity and will be compatible with any Android and iOS devices. It will also come with a 44mm stainless steel case for ultimate protection and will also feature a black PVD finished bezel. This motion smartwatch will also come with some style. It is reported that any time the user receives an e-mail, call, appointment, text message, or social media alert via their connected device that the smartwatch will glow teal with its built in LED indicators. This device will not have a screen, but it can reportedly be controlled via a companion app, which can be downloaded with Google Play.

The two companies have also stated that this device will have an absolutely insane battery life of one week, but when the battery runs out it can indeed be charged. This bold motion smartwatch can do more than just alert users on messages however. According to details, Movado’s motion smartwatch can track users steps and users can also set daily fitness goals via the companion app. Maybe the only drawback to this smartwatch, other than the insane price, is the fact that users will not be able to read texts or messages on the device itself. It will alert users of notifications, but will not actually show them.

WORTH IT?

There is no questioning that this new motion smartwatch from Movado and HP has the goods, but is this device going to be worth it with its ridiculous price. Paying over $700 for any technology device is a lot of money, but paying that kind of money for a watch just seems absurd. Now this is not discounting that this device looks amazing, it is just $795 is a lot of money any way you slice it. For people who have money to throw around this smartwatch’s price will not be an issue, but for others it very much could be. It can be expected that Movado and HP’s new bold motion smartwatch, although not officially announced, will be available in time for the holidays and it could no doubt be a tremendous gift for anybody.

Here comes what we’ve all been waiting for. Much to the satisfaction of tech enthusiast worldwide, Samsung has finally developed and will soon launch its Gear S2 smartwatch. The wearable gadget is increasingly becoming more popular as different versions of the smartwatch are released. In fact, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC), roughly 72.1 million wearables will be shipped in 2015, compared to a measly 26.4 million units shipped in 2014.

The Gear S smartwatch was launched in late August 2014. However, a recent Instagram photo posted by @Papanosio, better known as Dennis Miloseskia, a vice president of Samsung Design America, viewers got a glimpse at the Samsung Gear S2. The caption reads “Giving the new Samsung Gear S2 a test drive. #samsung #watch #wearable #nextlevel.” The post also exhibited a 2015 Samsung Gadget LookBook, which features more upcoming devices that Samsung will launch in the near future.

Samsung Gear S2: The Present

The new smartwatch is expected to have a rotating bezel, and two buttons. There are currently no smartwatches that have been designed with two buttons. Smart watches typically include one button, a front button or, like the Apple Watch, a crown. The functionalities of these buttons have yet to be revealed. It is anticipated that the device will also include a Samsung Exynos processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. Furthermore, the Samsung Gear S2 will boast 768MB of RAM, which is the highest among other smartwatches, reported Passary.

Functions that the Gear S2 will certainly possess are 3G connection and Samsung’s Tizen operating system as opposed to Android Wear.

The Future

According to the Irish examiner, the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch may feature a SIM slot to enable users to make calls and connect to data on the device. The Gear S2 is also Samsung’s first smartwatch having a round display. Now, prospective customers are awaiting Samsung’s big reveal. The smartwatch will be presented at IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung) – the largest consumer electronics trade show in the world – in Berlin on September 3rd.

Tech companies have struggled to provide much needed accessibility to people who are visually impaired for quite some time, but the team behind the Dot hopes to change that. The Dot is the world’s first active braille smartwatch, and the idea is to bring users an affordable way for them to read things like messages, tweets, and e-books straight from their wrist.

Saving Braille

Many recent studies show that there is a worrisome decline in braille literacy among people who are visually impaired. In 2012, NPR reported that many braille readers were turning more and more to their smartphones to provide them with information, and were beginning to forget how to read braille altogether.

The team of South Korean engineers understands that relying on technology like Siri to read text data can be inefficient and sometimes inaccurate. According to the team of engineers, only one percent of books are even translated into braille, and the cost of braille e-readers is so outrageous that reading can often times be an incredible hassle. So, they’re setting out to provide users with a product that will not only encourage users to read braille, but also help them learn to read it.

How it Works

The technology behind the Dot is actually quite brilliant. It collects text data from the user’s smartphone and translates the data into braille. On the face of the device are four groups of six dots which react to a series of magnets to create braille letters.

Technology exists like this in other formats, but having a device so portable makes the Dot incredibly unique. Currently, the developers are trying to hit a price point somewhere under $300 for the device, which is about on par with how much most smartwatches cost anyway. Considering $300 is much cheaper than the reported $2000 of most braille e-book readers, many people might find this to be a pretty attractive price.

Facing Criticism

Despite the device still being in development, the watch has already received some criticism in regards to how many braille letters the smartwatch can display at any given time. In a lengthy comment in the original article, Eric Ju Yoon Kim, CEO of dot incorporation, mentioned that the braille cells will actually act as an “escalator” as the data is translated for the user.
