New Study Shows that Dental Fillings are Useless - http://clapway.com/2015/12/08/new-study-shows-that-dental-fillings-are-useless/

Let’s face it, nobody likes getting fillings for cavities. It is something that nobody enjoys and everyone would be fine avoiding. Now, a recent study by the University of Sydney shows that dental fillings may be useless. This is great news for everyone in the world!

DENTAL FILLINGS STUDY BY SYDNEY

Researchers at the University of Sydney announced that this was a seven-year study. They stated that they tested around 1,000 people. What they did was to compare a treatment via drill and a treatment that involved fluoride and patients not eating sugary foods. They reported that the people who used the fluoride had a near 50 percent decrease of the need for fillings. Also, people who had previously been getting multiple fillings a year, who were tested, had their percentage decreased by 80.

THE CONCLUSION OF DENTAL FILLINGS

The lead researcher of this study, Wendell Evans, commented that the conclusion is that dental fillings can be avoided with simple treatments. He basically said it was not necessary for people to get them because the dental decay does not require it. Evans continued and said that decay develops slowly and sometimes takes up to eight years before it grows to a potential danger. He states that this is plenty of time to detect the decay and treat it before a filling would be necessary.

DENTAL FILLINGS COULD BE CHANGED

So, with this news it is a wonder if fillings will be altered in the future. Dental practices could end up changing and less dental fillings may occur. The world without fillings would be a great world indeed. Of course, as long as they are not needed. This may be one of the most well-accepted studies in quite a while. This is just for the simple fact that this could prevent, what are being called, useless fillings.

Public Health England, an agency of the British Department of Health, published a report which describes e-cigarettes as 95 percent less hazardous than the regular, “normal” cigarettes and recommends them as a quitting aid.

“Best estimates show e-cigarettes are 95% less harmful to your health than normal cigarettes and when supported by a smoking cessation service, help most smokers to quit tobacco altogether,” Public Health England Chief Executive, Duncan Selbie, says while one of the study’s authors, Peter Hajek, professor at the Queen Mary University adds:

“My reading of the evidence is that smokers who switch to vaping remove almost all the risks smoking poses to their health.”

E-CIGARETTES DO NOT LEAD THE MASSES TO SMOKING

Anti-smoking activists and public health officials do not believe in vaping as a method for smokers to quit their unhealthy habit and believe that e-cigarettes are making smoking seem glamorous luring non-smokers into nicotine addiction.

The report though says that almost all of the 2,600,000 adults who use e-cigarettes in Great Britain used to be smokers and that most of them are using their devices in order to quit. In addition, less than 1% of adults and less than 1% of teenagers have become regular e-cig users without ever being smokers in the past.

In other words, as in the United States, smoking rates in the U.K. have decreased as vaping rates have risen and “there is no evidence so far that e-cigarettes are acting as a route into smoking for children or non-smokers.”

PHE’s report calculates that 44.8 percent of the population in Great Britain have not realized that e-cigarettes are less harmful than smoking. This number is quite small compared to the 65 percent of Americans who, according to a Reuters poll, believe that e-smoking is either worse than regular smoking or don’t know.

Misleading pronouncements by anti-smoking organizations and public health agencies about vaping have made the masses believe that e-cigarettes may be, in fact, more dangerous than smoking. For example, CDC Director Tom Frieden says that “When it comes to tobacco products we really have to assume they’re dangerous until they’re proven safe, rather than the other way around.” However, e-cigarettes do not contain any tobacco at all.

E-CIGARETTES ARE NOT RISK FREE

This kind of misinformation may lead smokers to serious behaviors, making them believe that e-cigs are, at least, as harmful as normal cigarettes. This could keep million of smokers from quitting.

Kevin Fenton, PHE’s director of health and wellbeing, says:

“E-cigarettes are not completely risk-free, but when compared to smoking, evidence shows they carry just a fraction of the harm. The problem is people increasingly think they are at least as harmful, and this may be keeping millions of smokers from quitting,”

Ann McNeill, professor of psychiatry, psychology, and neuroscience at King’s College London, who co-authored the study adds that in her view smokers should try vaping and vapers should stop smoking entirely, in order to prove that e-cigarettes could change everything in public health.

A New Reason to Be Scared of the Dentist: Amnesia - http://clapway.com/2015/07/17/a-new-reason-to-be-scared-of-the-dentist-amnesia/

The fear most people have when having to go to the dentist, is just a small issue comparing to what happened to a British man who, years ago had a standard, routine root canal. Even today, the man is forced to relive the day of his surgery, and he will continue to do so every single day.

A Encounter with a Dentist Turned into a Mysterious amnesia Case

Most people know the movie Groundhog Day, with Bill Murray who plays a weatherman who wakes up every day, to find it is the 2nd of February and he must report a tedious human interest weather segment.

However, none of us can imagine how this feels in real life. One man, however, lives through it every day. Unfortunately for him, the man, who 15 years ago went to the dentist for an easy surgery, wakes up every day now believing that it’s 14 March 2005, and he has to meet his dentist for an appointment.

Fifteen years ago, during his one-hour root-canal treatment, the man was administered a local anesthetic, and since that moment, he cannot remember anything beyond 90 minutes.

However, the man seems to be fully aware of his identity, as well as his personality. The only problem is that, as stated before, he wakes up each morning, thinking it’s the same day. He manages to get along with this issue using an electronic diary.

How Is this Issue Explained?

The symptoms this unfortunate man has are similar to those associated with a condition called anterograde amnesia. This disease appears when damage to the bilateral hippocampal or diencephalon regions in the brain causes memory loss.

The problem appears when trauma or a specific event makes people lose their ability to create new memories. However, long-term memories from before the moment that traumatized them remain clear.

Is the British Man Faking It?

This apparent case of amnesia was studied with attention, and no presence of brain damage or other changes in the brain have been found. This is the reason why specialists believe the amnesia was caused by a breakdown of protein synthesis in the brain.

The idea of him faking everything was considered. However, doctors who knew the case and studied it for years dismissed that thought.

The case of the man who lost the ability to produce memory from a simple encounter with a dentist has been published in the scientific journal Neurocase.
