Study Finds Fat Men Show Off More Often - http://clapway.com/2015/11/23/study-finds-fat-men-show-off-more-often123/

Apparently, eating a massive amount of food is a way that men try to show off to the opposite sex. According to a study, when they are with females, a research of 133 adults (74 males and 59 females) by Cornell University found that males eat a lot more food.

They Don’t Discriminate, Either

The study discovered that not just did guys take 93% more pizza when eating with a female compared to when with another man, but they additionally took 86% more salad. The reasoning? People need to relax when taking with members of the opposite sex, the research study reads. These findings suggest that men often overeat to show off, according to Kevin Kniffin, lead author of the study.

A Bizarre Study with Bizarre Conclusions

Evidently, by packing their faces, men are revealing that they have phenomenal skills, benefits, and/or excess energy in degrees that are exceptional to other males. Conspicuous usage of food is a much less significant ‘threat’ than, say, going off to the cutting edge of battle, but research study on the impacts of obesity, however, reveal overeating to comprise dangerous actions,” added the study authors. It additionally might be to show their physical conditioning – which might seem an odd verdict to attract from a pizza binge.

Man Fat

Apparently, Eating More Means More Stamina

The researchers say that taking part in undesirable or risky behavior demonstrates an extraordinary ability to endure challenges, even self-inflicted ones, so the male thinking goes. Women did not feel the have to chase in order to impress the opposite sex. Their eating habits stayed the same, regardless of which gender they were eating with.

Unlike Men, Women Stay the Same Regardless of Who They Eat With

However, they did state that they really felt rushed when they consumed with a male, as well as believed that they consumed a lot more as a result of it. There was no proof to confirm that they did eat more. Altogether, the scientists wrapped up that “people ought to calm down when consuming with members of the opposite sex.

With its new application update, #GoogleMaps is testing a function that recommends good eateries in major cities such as #New York, San Francisco and #London. - http://clapway.com/2015/09/03/google-maps-restaurant-finder-new-101/

GOOD NEWS TO ALL ANDROID GOOGLE MAPS USERS!

With its new application update, Google Maps has begun testing a function that gives users recommendations on good eateries in major cities such as New York, San Francisco and London. Similarly to other platforms like Yelp!, the service will list high rated restaurants that specialize in breakfast, coffee, lunch, drinks and dinner. Among its filters, the test phase includes options such as ‘quick bite’ or ‘family-friendly’. Some of the data the service is based from is from Zagat, incorporating user reviews, cost and location information, though Google assures that they will give the feature an original twist to compete against sites like Foursquare and Zomato.

If the test runs successfully, the feature will expand to other major cities.

Google Maps Tests Restaurant Finder Feature in New Update - Clapway

Murali Viswanathan, Senior Product Manager at Google, comments by saying that Google Maps may offer a suggested list based on location and time of day. Users will be able to see pictures, check reviews and access more detailed information on the eateries listed. Viswanathan elaborates in the company blog by saying once a user picks the category that suits their craving, they will be able to see in-depth details about each location, swipe through photos, get details, and check out ratings and reviews from Google and other diners.

HOW DOES IT WORK EXACTLY?

The new Maps update will come with an updated exploration widget, which will give users access to a new tier of recommendations of nearby places for a bite to eat or a drink in the mobile application. Users can even search for places by ambiance in order to fit to their tastes and mood. According to Google, the new update is designed to “highlight the local flavor” beyond the data collected based on algorithms and user data. The app may even recommend places based on your search history, pinpointing places similar to ones you may have visited before.

GOOGLE AND FOOD

Reports say that Google has been very active in incorporating gastronomical services to their applications, working on technology to determine calorie content in dishes from dish photos in addition to its fresh features which allow users to upload images in restaurant points on the Maps app.

Foodies Can Now Post Photos on Google Maps #food #foodie #googlemaps - http://clapway.com/2015/08/24/foodies-can-now-post-photos-on-google-maps123/

With a recently released update, Google Maps is adding another feature specifically geared towards foodies to allow them to post photos of their meals at restaurants with two quick taps. However, the feature is only available for Level 3 Local Guides, meaning if you want to post your food porn pics, you must be an active contributor to the rapidly expanding Google Maps.

An Ocean of Projects… What’s Else is In The Works at Google Maps?

Google Maps Allows Foodies to Post Photos Now

Google Maps is more than just a navigation app. The name Google Maps itself has become synonymous for finding both directions and a new restaurant. The treasure trove of features has expanded over the years to include restaurant reviews, booking reservations, avoiding traffic, and even seeing satellite images of any place in the world.

Night Time is the Right Time for this Google Maps Feature

But Google hasn’t stopped adding to the mix as it has now unveiled a new feature that allows people to snap pictures of their breakfast, lunch, and dinner and post it directly to the map. It’s a visual review of the restaurant rather than the written review, which we usually just skim. Besides, most of us end up just counting how many stars the place received. The feature comes much to the satisfaction of foodies everywhere who still mourn the loss of Google’s Tablescape, an experiment that allowed, well, pretty much the same thing. It appears Tablescape has led to something bigger and more integrated into Google services.

Only Local Guides at Level 3 or Above Can Snap Food Pics to Google Maps

If you want to be involved in having a lunchtime photoshoot of your most-beloved diner’s pastrami on rye or the delicious vegetable curry from your favorite hole-in-the-wall, you must meet some criteria first.

That’s right! Google doesn’t want just any person to post potentially scrumptious pictures of food porn. They want only connoisseurs of food to participate–at least for now.

So far, only Local Guides at Level 3 or above have access to this food photo feature. These lucky Level 3 guides have posted at least 50 reviews after signing up as a Local Guide, which probably does qualify them as knowing what is worthy and unworthy of being digitally captured and presented to the world via Google Maps.

Google Maps Not Just For Navigation as Foodographs Become a Thing Again

Google Maps likes to save us time. We can travel the world with Art Project, peeking into famous landmarks without flying out of our living room. We can also avoid the long stretches of traffic thanks to live updates, but it is now making it easier to quickly post our food pictures.

When the logged-in Local Guide takes a snapshot, an alert will notify them, asking if the picture should be posted onto the Maps food photos. With two clicks, the foodograph is added to the Maps without any inconvenience to the user, yet with much valuable information provided for everyone else using Google Maps.

Do you look like this when YOU"RE #stressed? - http://clapway.com/2015/08/06/hunger-games-how-stress-affects-your-food-choices-352/

Have you ever wondered why stress changes your food preferences with ambitious diet plans exiting the window as fast as a man being chased by a shark? A new study from the College of Zürich in Switzerland is providing answers by demonstrating how stress can alter your self-control.

Stress sabotages self-control

There is much truth behind the phrase “stress eating,” researchers have found.

STRESS-EATING

“Our findings provide an important step towards understanding the interactions between stress and self-control in the human brain, with the effects of stress operating through multiple neural pathways,” said lead author Silvia Maier from University of Zurich, Switzerland.

“Self-control abilities are sensitive to perturbations at several points within this network, and optimal self-control requires a precise balance of input from multiple brain regions rather than a simple on/off switch,” Maier added.

This complex mechanism shapes not only on our capability of staying zen, but also our food preferences.

Food, stress and relief

stressFor the study, 29 participants underwent a treatment inducing moderate stress in the laboratory. They were then asked to choose between 2 food options. An additional 22 participants did not undergo the treatment; a torture-like technique which involved being observed and evaluated by researchers while immersing a hand in an ice water bath for 3 minutes, before choosing between the food options.

Researchers found that the slightly traumatising experience of the ice bath treatment had a repercussion on participants who were more likely to choose unhealthy food compared with people who were not stressed.

Basically, even moderate levels of stress can impair self-control. The effects of stress were also visible in the brain’s patterns of connectivity which resulted in the participants’ reduced ability to exercise self-control over food choices.

Stress is in the air

“This is important because moderate stressors are more common than extreme events and will thus influence self-control choices more frequently and for a larger portion of the population,” said senior author Todd Hare.

Researchers hope to identify whether some factors — ranging from exercise to social support — can “buffer” the effects of stress on decision making.

We all came across the power of stress at some point in our lives but did you ever feel it was impairing your self-control? Share your experience in the comments section below.

Able to Imagine the Smell of Food? You Might be Predisposed to Obesity! - http://clapway.com/2015/07/08/able-to-imagine-the-smell-of-food-you-might-be-predisposed-to-obesity-126/

For many of us the smell of some kinds of food makes it difficult to stop from eating, even if we shouldn’t. Even if people are more and more scared of obesity, anyone able to smell but refuse a chocolate cake, for example, is considered to be quite a strong person.

It is a known fact that the smell of food can give us cravings, even if the body doesn’t feel the need to eat something. However, recently a new fact has been discovered: It appears that even an imaginary fragrance can give people insatiable desires.

According to an early research, obese people were likely to have overwhelming cravings based on smell. In addition, on the authority of a new study, obese people are predisposed to imagine the taste of food in a more vivid manner than people who are skinny. Also, the differences in visualizing smells can actually be an important explanation for cravings.

CAN IMAGINATION GENERATE OBESITY?

The researchers who applied D.J. Kavanagh’s elaborated intrusion theory of desire, which states that a mental image of cake might trigger a craving that’s quite hard to pay no attention to, conducted the new study at the John B. Pierce Laboratory and the Yale School of Medicine.

The experiment was based on more than 80 people and each of them had to complete a questionnaire. All questions were related to their ability to imagine visual and odor cues. They were asked to rate the vividness they experienced.

In accordance with the results, people who can imagine the smell of foods at a more vivid rate, have a considerable risk of obesity. This study was created to be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Society for the Study of Ingestive Behaviour (SSIB) in Denver and it gives us interesting results.

However, the ability to smell food is the tricky business, when it comes to obesity and this is the reason why, according to researchers, future studies will focus on measuring smell ability and not self-reported ratings.

Rearranged "Food Order" for Those on a Type 2 Diabetes Diet - http://clapway.com/2015/06/25/rearranged-food-order-for-those-on-a-type-2-diabetes-diet765/

When it comes to being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, restrictions immediately begin to follow. The most evident of the restrictions have to do with eating, to the point where it has been stated by experts that most foods are to be avoided, as opposed to being consumed in moderation. Fortunately, a recent study featuring people on a type 2 diabetes diet shows that avoiding foods is highly unnecessary, just as long as they are eaten in a specific order.

Significance of type 2 diabetes diet on glucose and insulin levels

Not only is the type 2 diabetes diet significant to individuals suffering from the disease, but it also applies to those suffering from obesity as well. The main food groups these diseases tend to focus on are protein, fruits and vegetables, and carbohydrates. In previous years, two groups that were considered to have a significant negative impact on glucose and insulin levels were fruits and carbohydrates. This is due to both of these food groups raising blood sugar at highly drastic, potentially dangerous, levels. According to researchers of studying the matter, “Carbohydrates [and fruits] raise blood sugar, but if you tell someone not to eat them -or to drastically cut back- it’s hard for them to comply.” Following this statement is the breakdown of the recent study of the type 2 diabetes diet itself.

A new study further breaking down the typical type 2 diabetes diet

Featuring 11 participants, the study had them eat two different sequences of type 2 diabetes diet meals, one for each week. In the first week, the participants ate carbohydrates and fruit juice first. A few minutes later, it was followed by vegetables, fat, and protein. During the second week, vegetables, fat, and protein were eaten first followed by carbohydrates a few minutes after. While the participants were eating in two different orders for the next few weeks, their glucose levels were taken. There were many findings and, a new phenomenon was revealed.

A potential new food order for the type 2 diabetes diet

Researchers found that when the participants were eating carbohydrates first and vegetables afterwards, glucose levels proved to be a lot higher than when they were consuming vegetables and protein beforehand. Although more research and studies need to be conducted in order to fully confirm this new finding, it is safe to say that this new food order of eating veggies and protein before carbs is a good bet for Diabetes Type 2 patients.

New Discovery Shows Chimps are More Like Humans Than Previously Thought - http://clapway.com/2015/06/03/new-discovery-shows-chimps-like-humans-previously-thought123/

New, exciting research suggests that chimps are a lot more like humans than we previously thought. Not only do chimps create spears to hunt with, offer sex in return for food and make dolls to play with, but they also have the brain capacity to cook their food. There is only one problem; they don’t understand how to use fire.

A recent study done by Harvard evolutionary biologist Alexandra Rosati and Harvard psychologist Felix Warnekin suggest that chimps have all the same mental capacity that humans do when it comes to cooking, and they have the desire to cook as well. Both authors completed nine experiments on chimps to evaluate their thinking when it comes to cooking food.

One such test proved that chimps are more inclined to choose cooked food over raw food. Another exciting experiment proved that chimps even understand the process of “cooking” food. Scientists showed chimps raw pieces of food, placed the food in an oven and then pulled out the cooked food to give the chimps. Soon, the chimps were placing their own raw food into the oven as well. In this case, however, the oven was really just a box with already cooked food in it, because the researchers didn’t want to harm the chimps in any way.

Scientists report that whenever the chimps would put the raw food in their “oven” they would get really excited about the process and the result.

Even more impressive is the chimpanzees similarity to humans when it comes to patience, or lack of it; however this impatience was put on the back burner when it came to the deliciousness of cooked food. Chimps would forego immediately devouring their food, walk across the room and hand it to a scientist to be “cooked.” They resisted the temptation to immediately chow down, even though their self control is a lot less contained than our own.

Scientists were astounded at the capacity that chimpanzees have in regards to cooking food. Not only do chimps have the capability to recognize the cooking process of food, but they prefer to eat cooked food as well.
