No More Antibiotics and Super Cows On Farms - http://clapway.com/2015/12/08/no-more-antibiotics-and-super-cows-on-farms/

Farmers feeding their animals antibiotics has been a very controversial practice for many years. There are many reasons to believe why this should stop. Doing this has affected many people’s foods and also the environment. Many people have voiced out about why this practice should be reduced and/or stopped. This is a practice that many farmers do, but that many people do not like.

ANTIBIOTICS NEED TO STOP BEING FED TO FARM ANIMALS

First of all, the purpose for using these antibiotics is to allow animals to gain weight faster. This practice will also allow animals to gain more weight overall. This then allows more meat to be produced. However, several consumer and science groups have disagreed with this. Two major associations that have commented on this matter are the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the American Public Health Association. According to both of these associations, these antibiotics have contributed to the rise of illness around the world. They state that farmers should only give them to sick animals so they can work for a longer period of time.

THE AMOUNT OF MEAT AFFECTED BY ANTIBIOTICS

A research service association released a report a few years ago about the amount of meat that has antibiotics. According to them, 40 percent of all adult hogs sold in the US had them in 2009. In 2011, they state that 52 percent of all chickens had them. Lastly, in 2011 they state that three-quarters of all ranches raising at least 1,000 cattle were fed them. This is an amazing amount of meat affected by this. The chances of eating a piece of meat that has not been contaminated with antibiotics are pretty much fifty-fifty. A flip of the coin is the chance you have in this ordeal. Maybe one day there will be a ban, but not right now.

If you had the power to make one #unhealthy #snack a very #healthy #superfood, which would it be? - http://clapway.com/2015/07/20/bacon-seaweed-and-7-other-flavors-you-wish-were-healthy/

You have all heard about the magnificent discovery and future plans for bacon-flavored seaweed. Also known as dulse. If not, you should really check out this article. The flavor of bacon is making a comeback (though it never really left) and it’s packing a healthy punch. Bacon-flavored crackers and bacon-flavored salad dressing are just two of the goodies that have been created using a strain of dulse (the bacon seaweed) so far. As dulse makes it way to the American market, it makes you wonder what other healthy foods are out there, that have a naturally delicious flavor. Here are seven flavors you wish were innately healthy:

Bacon Seaweed and 7 Other Flavors You Wish Were Healthy - Clapway

1. Pizza

Everyone loves pizza. It comes in so many different types of flavors, shapes, and sizes. It is made of different ingredients and most of them are not healthy at all. If you run into a “healthy” type of pizza, it probably doesn’t taste that great. While marine biologist are out finding bacon flavored seaweed, how about finding some pizza-flavored seaweed as well?

2. Hot Wings

I mean, since there is such a thing as bacon seaweed, there has to be hot wing flavored seaweed in the great big ocean. Right?

3. Oreo

Whether you call it cookies n’ cream or Oreo flavored, you know that both are great in pretty much everything. Milkshakes, frappuccinos, and cakes are the best when packed with Oreo flavor. And of course they are all super bad for you. I’ll just wait here patiently for there to be a new superfood that naturally tastes like Oreos.

4. Caramel

Just thinking about the delicious melt-in-your-mouth taste of caramel, makes me want to go and buy a big bag of caramel candy. If bacon seaweed is possible, anything is possible.

5. Butterscotch

You can say this is similar to caramel, but it’s not. Different taste but same unhealthy benefits. Someday, researchers will stumble upon butterscotch flavored turmeric. Turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory properties that would decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and type 2 diabetes.

6. Ranch

I have friends that put ranch on everything. They put it on pizza, steak, and burgers. I cringe when I see them ruin their food that way. I bet they would love it if a ranch-flavored health food was unearthed.

7. S’mores

I recently tried Starbucks’ s’mores flavored frappuccino, and I have to say that I had to try my hardest to not get one more than once a day. But if it were created with a naturally s’mores flavored superfood, like kale, maybe I wouldn’t object to drinking more than one a day.

Bacon seaweed is great and all, but there are so many other flavors that I wish were innately found in some of our healthiest foods. What are some flavors you wish were healthy?

Giving up good-tasting vices of foods would be a lot easier if they were super foods. Because you wouldn’t have to give them up. In the meantime, Pavlok may be of some assistance:

Restaurants as Unhealthy as Fast Food Places - http://clapway.com/2015/07/16/restaurants-as-unhealthy-as-fast-food-places543/

We are all aware of how unhealthy fast food is, but it seems that eating in a casual and fine dining restaurant is also far from being a good choice.

According to researchers, the healthiest option is eating at home. Cooking is the best way to control the calories, fat, sugar and other nutrients that we consume, according to experts. This is because when we prepare our meals, we know exactly what the food contains, and we choose all the ingredients.

Eating in Restaurants Is Not as Healthy as Many Believe

In accordance with research, choosing between a fast food place and a restaurant doesn’t make a big difference, since the food from both places is unhealthy. The food people eat when they go out usually has more calories, fat and sodium than the meals made at home.

The new study, published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey , which gathers health and dietary information from a representative sample of the U.S. population, on a regular basis.

Questions in regards to what they had eaten over a two-day period were answered by 18,000 people. A third of them said they had eaten fast food on one or even both days and one-quarter had eaten in a restaurant on at least one day.

When You Eat Out You End Up with 200 More Calories

As declared by the researchers, when going out to eat, people end up taking in 200 more calories than when eating at home. This is true even if they choose a fine restaurant, instead of a fast food place.

And this doesn’t seem to be all the research shows. Some restaurants might even be unhealthier than fast food. It appears that, even though you might be getting more healthy nutrients, such as vitamins or omega-3 fatty acids, you are probably consuming more cholesterol and sodium as well.

Obese People Prefer Restaurants, not Fast Food

Furthermore, the research also shows that people with a poor education are more likely to consume fast food while people in the middle-income range tend to eat more in other types of restaurants.

The surprise came from the obese people who seem to prefer eating in restaurants and not in fast food.

As a measure against unhealthy eating, the US Food and Drug Administration has required restaurants with more than 20 locations to provide their customers with information about the calories on the menu.
