Is This the True Successor to the Nexus 5? - http://clapway.com/2015/08/08/is-this-the-true-successor-to-the-nexus-5-101/

This year Google is reportedly releasing two Nexus variants: a lower cost option with LG (Nexus 5 2015), and a likely bigger and more expensive version (Nexus 6 2015?). Details about each device are sparse even though they are poised to release within the next few months, but earlier in the week GizmoChina, a Chinese tech site, received a leak that highlight some very believable specs.

LEAKED NEXUS SPECS

Fans of the original Nexus 5 will notice that a lot of the reported specs fall in line with what LG used in the previous model. This time around the display has been bumped up from a 4.95-inch screen to a 5.2-inch screen, but the display resolution will remain at 1080p, so the extra bit of screen real estate will largely go unnoticed for most users.

The base internal storage is getting bumped up to a solid 64GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage. The camera, one of the original Nexus’ shortcomings, is going to get a bump from 8MP to 13MP, but whether the camera will actually perform better remains to be seen.

A few of the more unbelievable specs include the Snapdragon 620 processor, 4GB of LPDDR3-1886 RAM, and a 3180mAh battery. The Nexus line of phones has never really set the bar when it comes to specs, and most flagship phones are currently shipping with 3GB of RAM. The 3180mAh is feasible if LG wants to improve battery life from the previous model (which would be a welcomed change), but it’s quite a step up from the previous 2300mAh.

The biggest mystery is the Snapdragon 620 processor, which is supposed to be next year’s mid-range line of processors. The Snapdragon 810 has its own issues, and benchmarks put single-core performance on par with the 620, though the 810 still excels in multi-core and GPU performance. So, while it wouldn’t be totally unbelievable for LG to stick this in the new Nexus 5, it’s best to wait for official word.

LEAKED NEXUS FEATURES

Some of the leaked features are decently exciting. According to the leak, the Nexus 5 will have front facing speakers, a better IMX278 RGBW sensor with a f/1.8 aperture lens, OIS, laser autofocus, a fingerprint scanner, will use USB Type-C connectors, and feature QuickCharge 2.0. All of which are very high-end features for a device that’s rumored to be sold for somewhere between $300 – $400.

WHAT’S HUAWEI BRINGING TO THE TABLE

There have been several vague leaks of the LG Nexus 5’s bigger brother, but nothing really substantial. Rumor has it that it will feature a 5.7-inch WQHD display and a 21MP camera among a few other cool features like wireless charging.

Google wanted to give fans of the Nexus series more options this year, which is why the company decided to release two variants of the device. Last year’s Nexus 6 was a great phone, but the larger footprint was a major turn off for many. It’s good to see Google listening to Nexus fans.
