Amazon is making homes smarter one update at a time. The company’s new restocking service is seriously threatening eBay and Walmart’s business. The new update lets Amazon replenish items for printers, washers or blood sugar meters automatically.

Amazon Dash Reorders Printer Ink, Detergent or Test Strips For You

Dash button owners with compatible Brother printers can now restock ink, toner or paper automatically. The printer will track its own usage stats and order more from Amazon when needed. This is some Smart House level stuff. Currently, 45 Brother printer models are compatible with the service. The company is planning on making even more.

GE will launch a washer that can restock its own detergent. The washer will have a special basin for detergent, which users fill. Once it’s running low, it will re-order more from the platform. In February, the Gmate SMART blood sugar meter will come with a function to reorder on test strips automatically.

Dash is Compatible with Brother, GE, Whirlpool and More

Whirlpool made an announcement at CES that its appliances will be compatible with Dash. Right now, one of their washers is connected to the replacement service. It will tell owners to restock when detergent levels are low.

Amazon is heading the move to automated shopping. These items are often forgotten on trips to the grocery store or the office supply store. Dash only launched in March of last year, and it’s already breaking ground. Dash is a tiny device that users can keep close by. It makes orders just by pressing down on its button. The button sends a wireless signal to the owner’s Amazon Prime account, and the items ordered are delivered within two days.

The Dash itself can only be used by Prime members. The new service will be open to regular Amazon users. The company is expecting to bring in as many devices as possible to the new service. Apparently, all it takes is as little as 10 lines of code to make it happen!

You did not just read that wrong, Amazon actually offers a bag filled with 1,500 ladybugs. Google and Amazon are in serious talks about commercial drone traffic with NASA and Intel. Soon enough, even eBay and Facebook may bring in drone delivery services. The talks have several goals. In short, the companies want to ease the process to having dedicated airspace for drone travel and to make a central control system that would regulate flight and travel.

Amazon and Google Project Wing Have Different Priorities When it Comes to Drone Deliveries

Google’s Project Wing is taking drone delivery services very seriously. Regulation is one of the most important aspects of developing this technology. Ideally, Google wants to design a system that would allow drones to state their location and destination. The system would log this information in and either allow, delay or deny take off. The drone would send a string of updates as it travels to keep its safety in check until it reached its destination. It can be assumed that a similar system will be implanted for the return flight.

In order for this to happen, commercial drone operators will have a whole step-by-step system to create. They would also need a fraction of airspace in every region where this service will be operating. Not only that, but they would also need a fail-safe procedure for when the drone is at a dead zone or one with very little connectivity. In the case of limited connectivity, weather or any other hazard, the drone has to be able to keep the system updated and carry out the delivery. Basically, Google wants a drone version of the air traffic control system used in commercial flying today. Except they’d like for the system to be as autonomous as possible.

Amazon and eBay Probably Have the Same Take on Drones

Amazon has a slightly different take on regulation. They aim for making the drones as smart as possible. Their focus is on in-flight sense and avoids mechanisms. Regardless of how efficient a control system is, it can’t account for balloons, birds, kites or dogs. The natural hazards are imminent. In other words, Amazon is looking for the right drone and Google is looking for the right system.

The rest of the basics are agreed on by both firms. The technology needs to be tested out for a long while until it reaches the level where it can be regulated. Because of this, nearly every company that wants to get involved in commercial drone usage are collaborating with NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration on the Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management project. This project seeks to secure a string of airspace that will allow for drone usage. The results of this project won’t be fully released until at least 2019, but we can see many changes before then.

It is possible that companies like eBay will eventually join the ranks of these projects. Not only because it is relevant to eCommerce, but the technology might bring in many new users. Facebook may not offer services that use drones just yet, but judging at how they’re dipping toes onto every industry, they could. Reports of a man in England that bought a car through eBay are going viral on the internet, specifically, because the car he paid for never came. This is not uncommon, but it’s outrageous that it is still happening today. Amazon is the better option after all.

English Man Buys Car for Around $7,500 And It Never Showed Up

In his report, the man from DP, North England, details his experience. The seller was contacted through the platform. After brief exchanges, the buyer received all of the car’s documents through e-mail, and they all seemed to be legitimate.

The money was stored in a ‘no access’ account until the purchase was finalized and made official. This was the last exchange between the buyer and the seller. The seller’s mobile and email account were shot off, and the car was never delivered. It might be fair to point out that the buyer is 57 years old and a regular eBay user.

Why Isn’t This Man Getting His Money Back?

The process that takes place after this sort of incident goes like this: eBay and whatever bank handled the payment take down the seller account. That’s pretty much all they can do. Transactions made outside of eBay cannot count as eBay transactions after all. This also includes any exchanges where sellers gave buyers account and transfer payment information through email.

eBay also does not offer protection on car sales. In this specific case, the incident was followed up by eBay and Barclays. By the time they got to the bottom of things, there were only about $110 in the account, which was returned to the buyer. The seller’s account has since been closed.

Is eBay Just Not for Old People? Is Amazon Safer

Connecting this kind of incident with age would make very little sense. There is something to be said about safety. The victim of this incident has said that he trusts no one after this happened to him, and it’s the kind of awareness everyone should have.

Regardless of age, this man, like many, just wasn’t careful enough. Something terrible had to happen before he could realize that the internet is as volatile as the physical world, or even more so. This man might be better off trying his luck with Amazon instead, which is a much more reliable eCommerce platform.
