Facebook Oculus VR and Samsung Gear VR Explained - http://clapway.com/2016/01/24/facebook-oculus-vr-and-samsung-gear-vr-explained-123/

The internet is chock-full of announcements being made about VR and new systems that are compatible with it. Most notably, the Samsung Gear VR and Facebook and Sony’s Oculus VR. But how do the Samsung Gear VR and Oculus VR actually work?

Mark Zuckerberg Reveals the Magic Behind VR Headsets

The videos that are viewed through VR headsets are built with cube mapping. This means that the images are projected onto the faces of a cube. Each face represents a direction that is relative to the user. This makes it possible for users to see things from any possible angle and takes out the unnecessary bits that make video warp and making file sizes smaller by 25%.

In the video post he made on Thursday, Zuckerberg also explains the magic behind experiencing the Oculus VR in high-definition. The headset follows the user’s point-of-view and accommodates images onto the faces of a pyramid. With this, the headset is able to switch viewpoints almost seamlessly while keeping an optimal resolution. The technique, currently being implemented on the Oculus Rift, also keeps file sizes small.

This Isn’t the Only Way Samsung Gear VR or Oculus VR Work

Essentially, all VR headsets right now are head-up displays. This goes for Facebook and Sony’s Oculus VR, Google Cardboard and the Samsung Gear VR. In order for any of these to work, users need three indispensable things: a computer, a console or smartphone, an input (this can be a head tracker, controllers, hand tracker, voice, buttons or trackpads) and an actual headset.

There are some complications with this setup. Many people who have tested virtual reality headsets can’t be on the system for more than 30 minutes. It tends to cause dizziness and nausea to some users, and a general feeling of motion sickness.

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Are the Future

Technology has all of its gears on making these components either more compact or eliminates them completely. In a perfect world, all you’ll need is a headset to get a full VR experience. The interaction between games and headsets is being perfected every day, and it’s safe to say we might only need a headset by the time 2020 comes around.

The biggest companies in the world are working to develop the technology. This means that when VR is truly developed, it’ll be a race to be the best. May the best headset take the crown.

India Rejects Facebook, Embraces Microsoft and Google - http://clapway.com/2016/01/23/india-rejects-facebook-embraces-microsoft/

Facebook has tried to bring in Free Basics into India with very poor reception while Microsoft and Google are being fully embraced. Mark Zuckerberg has gone through great lengths to convince India that this system will make the country more connected. Microsoft and Google have an entirely different approach.

Facebook Struggles With India

Mark Zuckerberg even published a co-written article about the benefits of Free Basics, but the truth is that it has no future in the country. The main criticism that Mark Zuckerberg has come across is the fact that his approach is trying to dictate what Indian people have access to and how they can access it. This makes a sure shot for more Facebook and Facebook-related applications getting more public.

Microsoft Takes A Very Different Approach

Microsoft has offered their services instead of forcing them into the Indian people. They have offered all of their services to new and ambitious startups in India, and were quoted as being very interested in the country’s emerging markets.

Google Brings in Free High-Speed Wi-Fi

Google announced today that they will offer free high-speed Wi-Fi services to the Mumbai Central Station in the city of Mumbai. This is the company’s first step to get Wi-Fi in 400 train stations in the country. Their goal is not only to connect more spots in India, but also to increase their presence in the Indian market.

After China, India has the largest number of Internet users. However, only a third of the country has access to it. The other two-thirds are Google’s target audience. Coincidentally, this is the same target that Facebook’s Free Basics is trying to engage.

300 Indian Train Stations Will Be Connected

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that the company will be installing Wi-Fi Indian railway stations. This came right after India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to Google’s grounds in California. Google will be tackling 100 of India’s busiest train stations this year, and eventually, 300. Google doesn’t want to only stick to Mumbai; they’ll be expanding to Allahabad, Jaipur, Patna and Ranchi.

This is the largest public Wi-Fi project in the world, and it will be connecting 10 million people through those first 100 stations. Mobile internet is becoming a lot more accessible to commuters in India. It will be available at full speed and allow for HD video stream. It’ll slow down after one hour of use.

Facebook Might Shut Down Twitter Livetweeting - http://clapway.com/2016/01/22/facebook-might-shut-down-twitter-livetweeting-123/

Facebook has announced the launch of a virtual Sports Stadium, and it might threaten Twitter’s spot as the go-to livetweet platform. The new hub will apparently bring in a new way to experience sports, and it comes just in time for the Super Bowl 50.

Facebook is the World’s Largest Cybernetic Sports Stations

There are over 650 million sports fans on Facebook, and many go there to make posts about sports events as they are happening. These posts become threads of celebration, misery or trash talking among friends, loved ones, and other fans if posts are appropriately tagged or posted in public forums.

A Live Posting Platform Isn’t A Total Surprise

With a specialized place for sports, Facebook brings together a very specific group of people to the platform. The social media website will host a special tab called Facebook Sports, where all content related to sports will be compiled. Through it, users will be able to see posts and comments from friends, posts from experts and specialized organizations. This includes broadcast stations, teams, leagues, and journalists.

The live stadium will also feature live scores, game statistics, and play-by-play posts. Fans will also be able to see game information, like which broadcast stations are showing them and at what time. It’s just an easier tool to follow all of the games as they happen, and a one-stop place for commentary. The point is to enhance the game watching experience, much like Twitter has done for award shows and live events through hashtags.

How Will Twitter Retaliate?

Twitter has been a comfortable tool for anyone to use. Especially when it comes to broadcast content, it’s just the simplest way to give live commentary. However, with this hub rolling out to American iPhones to support American Football, it could be in danger.

Facebook hasn’t tapped into the entertainment industry yet, but sports fans are a serious force to be reckoned with. Facebook announced that they will be rolling out the platform for basketball and soccer fans soon, and it will become available globally in the next few weeks. In those weeks, Twitter might just announce a new way to livetweet, and hopefully, both of them can remain neck and neck.

SEGA Slipped Up on Tumblr And Fans Are Very Grateful - http://clapway.com/2016/01/21/sega-slipped-up-on-tumblr-and-fans-are-very-grateful-123/

SEGA is hinting gamers about not one but two upcoming releases in the West, as confirmed by their Facebook, YouTube and Tumblr accounts.

PC Gamer Weekender Brought Up the Valkyria Chronicles Remaster, and SEGA Has Confirmed It

SEGA hinted at a possible western release of the Valkyria Chronicles Remaster. The game is coming out in the PS4 port of the PS3 in Japan on February 10. In the video recapping the PC Gamer Weekender, SEGA European Community Manager made a bunch of announcements regarding eastern and western releases of games.

SEGA spoke about Total War: WARHAMMER, special discounts on games such as Tembo the Badass Elephant and other big perks that the game developer is releasing on different platforms. The official announcement on whether or not the Valkyria Chronicles Remaster will be available in the West is expected to come next week.

SEGA Also Slipped Hints on A Different Game on Facebook

In the company’s Facebook page, a message went live that alarmed some classics fans. To be exact, the company said that ‘if you’re a fan of the classics, you might want to tune in tomorrow for our new game announcement’. Chilling stuff!

What could this mean? Well, 2016 marks the 25th anniversary since the inception of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. After the company released the SEGA 3D Classics Archives 2 for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan last year, it’s possible they could be fully revamping the series.

The Mystery Deepens on Tumblr

SEGA hasn’t made any announcements regarding how they’re going to celebrate Sonic’s 25th birthday, but this might just be a clue. A similar message was found in the tags of a similar post on Tumblr. The game developer reblogged a picture of NFL player C. J. Anderson wearing a Sonic the Hedgehog shirt and included the following in the tags: ‘We have something coming up in February that some of you will be interested. But we can’t talk about it yet! Don’t tell anyone you saw this hint in the Tumblr tags – okay?’

We’re going to go ahead and put our money on either a bunch of new Sonic merch hitting retailers or a new Sonic the Hedgehog game. Either way, it’s going to be an amazing year for SEGA, and fans can’t wait.

3 Things You Didn"t know about Skype, Google Hangouts and Facebook Messenger - http://clapway.com/2016/01/21/3-things-you-didnt-know-about-skype-google-hangouts-and-facebook-messenger/

Google Hangouts, Skype, and Facebook Messenger are all very well known services. However, there may be some features on these services that you did not know about. The following are just three aspects that you might not have known about:

FEATURE 1: FREE OF CHARGE

Now, many people are probably aware that Google Hangouts allows users to talk, and call, users without paying. However, Facebook Messenger also allows you to partake in free video calls. This was an update that Facebook released, and if you did not know about this then now you do! Also, Skype made communication free before many others did. Users can set up a voicemail with their Skype account, for only a few dollars and month, and then it is free for people to reach you with it.

FEATURE 2: THE ABILITY TO MUTE

Let’s face it, sometimes we get the urge to want to mute someone. Not only this but the ability to mute annoying noises with each service is sometimes necessary. Muting a video call in Skype is pretty evident, but Facebook Messenger actually allows users to mute a conversation for up to a full day. Google Hangouts also does something similar, as they allow users to mute notification sounds. The ability to mute can make the overall experience of these services much better.

FEATURE 3: BLOCKING

Many people are simply not aware of the fact that you can block someone in Facebook Messenger and Google Hangouts. When users do this, they prevent the person they are blocking from contacting them in any way. Also, speaking of blocking, Skype has actually seen some industries and countries ban it. Also, network administrators have tread lightly with Skype due to certain aspects. One of those aspects is the security concerns of the software, and the other is the bandwidth problem.

Haters on Facebook and Twitter Can End Up in Jail - http://clapway.com/2016/01/20/haters-on-facebook-and-twitter-can-end-up-in-jail-123/

Watch Your Words! It is 2016 and haters on Facebook or Twitter can easily get a restraining order pinned on them. They could even end up in jail for up to a year. Governments all over the United States are taking Facebook communication as e-mail.

Facebook and Twitter Are More Influential Than We Think

Social media is a powerful tool for many things. It recently showcased its power against Maria Gonzales, who now faces jail time for harassing her ex-sister in law on Facebook. It might be a bit of a stretch to call it harassment since all she did was post some vaguely threatening posts on the platform. What made it harassment was the fact that Maria actually tagged her sister in law in the posts.

In one of the posts, Maria Gonzales called her ex-sister in law ‘stupid’, and in another, she made an offhand comment about her family being ‘sad’. Naturally, the ex-sister in law was notified of these posts, which prompted her to file for a restraining order.

This isn’t the smartest move to make. Impulse can take a big part of why people post hate publicly on the internet. In this instance, tagging the object of your hate is probably the most dangerous thing to do. Many people think that Facebook or Twitter accounts can make them anonymous, but it’s quite the opposite.

Facebook and Twitter Can Get You a Restraining Order, Even Put You in Jail

A restraining order means that a person must refrain from any contact with another person, either by mail, phone, email, voicemail or other electronic or any means. Cases from as far back as 2014 have treated Facebook as a valid email communication, so it’s no surprise Gonzales is facing this level of trouble.

Online harassment became a hot topic on the internet. It spurred a new kind of bullying, cyberbullying, which affects people around the globe. Cyberbullying has taken many lives, and it’s only right that Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram content is admitted into courts as evidence. This will ensure the safety of teens suffering from depression all over the world, and especially protect those who are very present on these platforms.

Top Three Reasons Why WhatsApp is Better than Facebook Messenger - http://clapway.com/2016/01/20/top-3-reasons-why-whatsapp-is-better-than-facebook-messenger/

Both WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are competent, and well executed, instant messaging services. However, although Facebook Messenger is indeed good, WhatsApp is simply superior. There are three major reasons why it is, and here they are:

REASON 1: THE TUTORIALS AND TIPS FOR WHATSAPP

No matter how smart someone may be, a new product requires good tutorials and tips for the user. This is exactly what WhatsApp does, and does to perfection. There is no doubt, that any question the user has for this service can be answered with the company’s tutorials. Some of the tutorials, that are included, are: how to lock and protect your WhatsApp data, how to transfer WhatsApp conversations to new devices, etc.

REASON 2: A PROBLEM WITH FACEBOOK MESSENGER

One of the most mind-numbing issues with Facebook Messenger is the fact that users can’t log out within the app itself. Instead, the user has to go to Settings, then to Applications, then to Manage Applications, then open Messenger, and then Clear Data. Why on earth would Facebook make it so difficult to log out? Logging out should always be one of the simplest tasks to achieve with software. However, Facebook Messenger botches it, and the user definitely suffers from it. Also, this service does not allow users to fully disable notifications. This is another ridiculous decision by the company.

REASON 3: ADDING NEW CONTACTS

One of the coolest features of WhatsApp is the way that users can set up new contacts. All the user needs to know is their friend’s phone number, and then the app will automatically add them to their contacts. Overall, this app is simply the most well-run instant messaging service available on the mass market. This app runs more instant messages in one day than any other, and they do it with great fluidity.

Facebook Slammed for Illegal Actions, Are Tumblr and Reddit Next? - http://clapway.com/2016/01/15/facebook-slammed-for-illegal-actions-are-tumblr-and-reddit-next-123/

Facebook has been taken to German courts a handful of times, and one of them has ruled that their ‘friend finder’ feature is illegal. Is Tumblr next?

Court Clapway

German Court Calls Social Media Network ‘Intrusive’ and a ‘Nuisance’

The promotion for ‘friend finder’ was deemed intrusive, and Facebook was accused of not informing users about the feature well enough. The German court also upheld the claims made in 2014 and 2012 by two lower Berlin courts. This confirms that Facebook indeed violated German laws on data protection, and engaged in unfair trade practices by using deceptive marketing and advertising methods.

‘Friend finder’ allows Facebook access into user’s contact lists and sends them invitations to join the social media platform. These invitations, naturally, were seen as both intrusive and something of a nuisance. The German court agrees.

Social Media Network Found Guilty of Advertising Harassment

In 2010, Facebook was hit with a lawsuit from the Federation of German Consumer Organizations, which accused the social media platform of the very crime. The German court has found Facebook guilty of this crime, and also noted how Facebook does not inform users properly on the way their data is handled.

German Authorities Expect Similar Rulings if Tumblr or Reddit Ignore Privacy

The Federation of German Consumer Organizations has happily welcomed the verdict, saying that other platforms will face similar consequences if they ignore German privacy laws. Many firms use vague advertising or intrusive messages to attract new users, but they better think twice if they want to be big in the German market. If platforms like Tumblr and Reddit hope to make it, then they have to make sure never to make these mistakes.

Facebook has gotten into a lot of trouble in regards to privacy. Two years ago, company researchers were accused of toying with the emotions of as much as 700,000 users as an experiment. Last year, Facebook was accused of purposefully bugging their Android app to test how many users would try to get back into the platform. This was happening in Australia, Latin America and the European and Asian regions. The experiment is measly in accordance of the National Security Agency’s PRISM surveillance program, which allows companies to access user data and hand it to third parties for research and development.

Yahoo Helping Out Universities, Will Google and Microsoft Join? - http://clapway.com/2016/01/15/yahoo-helping-out-univerities-will-google-and-microsoft-join-123/

The world’s tech giants are all coming together to boost artificial intelligence technology. Yahoo just set itself apart from Google and Microsoft. The company is releasing information on 20 million anonymous users for university use.

Yahoo Clapway

Understanding The Internet from Yahoo User’s Perspective

The data compiles every click ad scroll of 20 million users. This makes up a giant chunk of data. The goal? The company is probably looking to join hands with colleges and universities to study how users interact with online services. This can only bring about positive results.

The users themselves were taken out of a pool of Yahoo Sports, Finance, News, Real Estate and other pages. The compilation of data will only be available to universities, no exceptions. It’s expected to provide researchers with a better and more realistic outlook on internet behavior.

Yahoo is Behind Google and Microsoft

In the world of technology, Yahoo has been quiet. After acquiring Tumblr and Flickr, the company has stayed mostly in the sidelines. This is basically a move for Yahoo to attract some brain power and get ahead in the game of artificial intelligence. As things stand, the companies making the most headway are Facebook, Google, Toyota and Microsoft. The company seriously needs to do something or get trampled by the other company’s widening paths.

Recruiting academic talent is a basic part of research and development. Facebook and Google have notorious staff, and those are the minds that bring about success. Research and development of artificial intelligence require a very good understanding of deep learning and machine training. As such, Yahoo wants to get their hands on as many brains as possible. Their approach is very unique to say the least.

Data Sciences Are Attractive

This kind of data can certainly attract a few people and form a data sciences division for the company. There’s never a shortage of brains when it comes to technology companies. The amount of data that the company is releasing weighs exactly 13.5 TB. This can from a great base for machine learning to attract users.

This compression of data is pretty much bigger than anything else available to academic computer scientists. However, it’s possible that the company might join hands with Amazon or Alphabet for a cloud computing center. This much data can’t be stored in a university system alone. Carnegie Mellon University signed a five-year $10 million partnership with Yahoo in 2015. The university will be using this data to make personalized apps.

Tension Between Facebook, Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft

There’s a lot of tension among tech companies to get the best artificial intelligence teams available. From here to 2020, competition will be very heated. Yahoo is making positive headway in this respect, and it’s in its best interest to keep making headway.

Top Five Reasons Why Reddit Beats Facebook - http://clapway.com/2016/01/13/top-five-reasons-why-reddit-beats-facebook/

It may be time to ditch Facebook and switch to Reddit, and here is why:

REASON 1: PRIVACY

Facebook has been known to constantly change their data use policy in the past. They also are constantly changing their privacy settings. Their newest setting allows anyone to look someone up, and this is an issue that will not be experienced using Reddit. You can be completely unknown on it, but have fun trying to do that with Facebook.

REASON 2: GREED

Greed is a powerful enemy that can rip apart relationships and companies. The main reason Facebook is greedy is because they decide what you can see. Reddit, on the other hand, lets users see whatever they please. They are actually owned by Advance Publications and they allow their site to fend for itself.

REASON 3: THE WAY THEY USE INFORMATION

There is something that all Facebook users need to be aware of. This is the fact that they use your account information to advertise. Oh, and, by the way, they will also do this without letting you know. That is correct, without your consent, Facebook will advertise your account information.

REASON 4: BACK TO PRIVACY

There was one strong instance in the past where Reddit put their foot down. A couple of years ago, the company banned the website known as Gawker. They exposed the real identity of a famous hacker who was running some illegal versions of their website. This proved that the company is not afraid to expose you if you deserve it.

REASON 5: REAL PEOPLE

When it comes to deciding if the content is appropriate, Facebook uses automated processes and Reddit uses real people. This makes the process much better with Reddit because computers can not compromise. Usually, the company will only put their foot down if users are blatantly spamming or abusing someone.

Four Reasons Why Instagram is Worse than Facebook - http://clapway.com/2016/01/13/four-reasons-why-instagram-is-worse-than-facebook/

Social media needs to be tread lightly because it has been known to cause depression and resentment in users. Facebook has often been received as the biggest culprit. However, Instagram is worse than them. Jessica Winter, an author, wrote about the issues with social media and why Instagram is the worst.

Studies have actually been garnered in the past about how Facebook is affecting people. As a matter of fact, the Human-Computer Institute found that Facebook creates loneliness and depression for some people. They found that this is due to your friends’ feeds, and even your own feeds. Two other universities took part in a study and found that vacation photos are the biggest culprit with user resentment. Many users begin to feel that their lives are simply not as good as others. This is clearly not the intent of these types of photos, but they can come off like that. Winter then went on to give four reasons to why Instagram is even worse.

FOUR REASONS WHY INSTAGRAM IS WORSE THAN FACEBOOK

The biggest reason why Winter noted that Instagram is worse than Facebook is due to the fact that the former is completely image-driven. So, the issue of vacation photos that was presented earlier becomes even more of an issue. With this platform, users are only exposed to photos and those feelings of loneliness become much more apparent. Adding on to this is three other major reasons. These reasons include Instagram messing with your sense of time, them distilling the emotional aspects of Facebook, and them upping your chances of seeing stalkers. The last reason is definitely worth noting as some people will feel the need to stalk someone else who consistently uploads what they are doing. The main aspect to remember is social media needs to be taken in moderation. If this is achieved, then these issues should not be present.

Facebook and Instagram Doing Great, Twitter is in Trouble - http://clapway.com/2016/01/13/facebook-and-instagram-are-doing-great-twitter-is-in-trouble-123/

A new statement from Twitter has declared that Periscope video feeds will now be viewable directly from the platform. This is good news for Facebook and Instagram.

User Growth Is Faltering on Twitter Clapway

User Growth Is Faltering on Twitter

User growth is the single most important factor when it comes to social media. There have been small increases in the US in recent months. Even the biggest social media networks have been flatlining in the United States and gained very little abroad. It looks like everyone who wants a Twitter account already has one.

Jack Dorsey Might Make Things Right

In an effort to shake things up, co-founder Jack Dorsey returned as the CEO of the Twitter. This is roughly like when Steve Jobs stepped in to use market capitalization to make Apple what it is today. However, his efforts haven’t been entirely effective. The platform has tried out curated feeds of content dedicated to certain themes or events, to no avail.

Jack Dorsey has been blamed for the plateauing for not dedicating all of his time to this platform. Currently, he splits his work between Twitter and his own company, Square. Investors are extremely disappointed. It has reached the point where the social media website’s stock went under $20 for the first time sine 2013. Right now, the company’s stock is at around $19.64.

Jack Dorsey is bringing in Periscope to right some wrongs. The popular live streaming app was acquired by Twitter last year, so this not too surprising a move. It allows users to live stream video from anywhere with an Internet connection, and other users can view and comment on the content as it happens.

Periscope Could Pull a Vine

According to the announcement blog post, this will give Twitter more dimension. It effectively lets the user get pulled into their feed or specific favorite accounts. It will hopefully give people a reason to log into Twitter and stay there instead of switching around. This will also boost Periscope’s popularity as some users may even want to download the separate platform.

Twitter recently acquired Vine, which records and loops 6-second videos. The platform became so popular that it became its own service though it still works seamlessly within Twitter. The same thing could happen to Periscope. The new update will roll out to iOS on January 12. It will be coming later for web and Android users.

What Does This Mean for Facebook and Instagram?

Facebook and Instagram are doing just fine on their own. While Instagram’s video platform isn’t as popular as Vine, it’s still widely used and functional. Facebook is bringing in a video platform of their own soon, which will allow for Facebook to work like a combination of social media and YouTube. On that side of the spectrum, it’s safe to say these two social media platforms will be largely unaffected by this update.

BRAINtellect Might Be Snatched By Google, Apple or Facebook - http://clapway.com/2016/01/12/braintellect-might-be-snatched-by-google-apple-or-facebook-123/

A new invention out of Scottsdale, AZ could get picked up by Apple, Google or Facebook to bring the amazing BRAINtellect 2 to the mass marketplace. The BRAINtellect is a headband that essentially shows your brain a mirror of itself through music.

Introducing, the BRAINtellect 2 Headband Clapway

Introducing, the BRAINtellect 2 Headband

Created by Brain State Technologies, the BRAINtellect 2 (B-2 for short) features sensors that monitor four different regions of the brain. These areas all play an important role in regulating emotional well-being and stress response. The four sensors on the headband can track and monitor this activity. In the end, it determines which area of the brain needs the most stress relief.

Stress sucks, everyone knows that. It has the ability to alter behaviour, sleeping patterns and basic performance. The B-2 supports the brain and helps it relaxed to reach a balanced, optimized state. After monitoring your brain activity, the B-2 takes the information to transform dominant frequencies to sound, heard through the device’s accompanying earbuds. Essentially, the brain is given a sonic reflection of itself. This prompts it to optimize itself.

It’s a Concert In There

Almost in real time, the device will make adjustments based on the altered activity until the brain reaches the point where it stands at its fullest potential. The actual sounds are milliseconds in length. The technology used for this part of the project uses a sound envelope known as the ADSR envelope. It stands for Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release. Special tones from special instruments are put into the tablet computer that comes alongside the headband. Each note is the same length though it may overlap according to brain activity, and there could also be some overlay.

The company brought in Grammy-awarded engineers to design software algorithms. Nothing else in the world sounds quite like the soundtrack to your brain.

The benefits of using B-2 daily include efficient, refreshing sleep, better stress handling, better focus and intuition, faster memory and recall, better decisiveness and higher confidence, higher learning ability, increased and extended relaxation, reduced conscious and subconscious fear and a sense of inner peace. The device also increases self-awareness and personal transformation.

This is A Really Attractive Buy for Giants like Google, Facebook, and Apple

These giant corporations are no strangers to new technology acquisitions. It’s possible that we may see this technology get funded, shoot out the first couple of shipments, and get bought by Google, Facebook or Apple. It will certainly bring great positive changes to the way we see our own brain. In fact, this could even change the way mental disorders are treated, and how we keep our brain healthy every day.

Google and Amazon Talk Drones, Will eBay and Facebook Join In? - http://clapway.com/2016/01/11/google-and-amazon-talk-drones-will-ebay-and-facebook-join-in-123/

Google and Amazon are in serious talks about commercial drone traffic with NASA and Intel. Soon enough, even eBay and Facebook may bring in drone delivery services. The talks have several goals. In short, the companies want to ease the process to having dedicated airspace for drone travel and to make a central control system that would regulate flight and travel.

Amazon Drone Clapway

Amazon and Google Project Wing Have Different Priorities When it Comes to Drone Deliveries

Google’s Project Wing is taking drone delivery services very seriously. Regulation is one of the most important aspects of developing this technology. Ideally, Google wants to design a system that would allow drones to state their location and destination. The system would log this information in and either allow, delay or deny take off. The drone would send a string of updates as it travels to keep its safety in check until it reached its destination. It can be assumed that a similar system will be implanted for the return flight.

In order for this to happen, commercial drone operators will have a whole step-by-step system to create. They would also need a fraction of airspace in every region where this service will be operating. Not only that, but they would also need a fail-safe procedure for when the drone is at a dead zone or one with very little connectivity. In the case of limited connectivity, weather or any other hazard, the drone has to be able to keep the system updated and carry out the delivery. Basically, Google wants a drone version of the air traffic control system used in commercial flying today. Except they’d like for the system to be as autonomous as possible.

Amazon and eBay Probably Have the Same Take on Drones

Amazon has a slightly different take on regulation. They aim for making the drones as smart as possible. Their focus is on in-flight sense and avoids mechanisms. Regardless of how efficient a control system is, it can’t account for balloons, birds, kites or dogs. The natural hazards are imminent. In other words, Amazon is looking for the right drone and Google is looking for the right system.

The rest of the basics are agreed on by both firms. The technology needs to be tested out for a long while until it reaches the level where it can be regulated. Because of this, nearly every company that wants to get involved in commercial drone usage are collaborating with NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration on the Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management project. This project seeks to secure a string of airspace that will allow for drone usage. The results of this project won’t be fully released until at least 2019, but we can see many changes before then.

eBay and Facebook Could Join In On the Talk

It is possible that companies like eBay will eventually join the ranks of these projects. Not only because it is relevant to eCommerce, but the technology might bring in many new users. Facebook may not offer services that use drones just yet, but judging at how they’re dipping toes onto every industry, they could. Drones are a powerful user magnet, so it’s possible eBay and Facebook worm themselves into the use of this technology.

YouTube and Facebook: Is Drinking Pee the New Trend? - http://clapway.com/2016/01/10/youtube-and-facebook-is-drinking-pee-the-new-trend/

Social media faced some insane fads in 2015, and the new year has been greeted with perhaps the most bizarre trend of all time: drinking your own pee. This is already getting over 10 million views on YouTube and is spreading like wildfire on Facebook.

2015 Was The Year of Optical Illusions and Ghosts

One of the most popular fads of 2015 was the dress – you know the one, the one no one knew was either white and gold or blue and black. Another popular one was the Charlie Charlie challenge. We see one of the supernatural kind at least once a year, but this one was particularly terrifying. Another trend was contouring, the particular makeup style where only seemingly terrifying makeup yielded celebrity-level looks.

All in all, 2015 was pretty eventful. With so many memes and dubsmashes and lip synch battles, it’s going to be a tough year to follow-up.

What’s in Store for 2016?

2016 is only ten days in, and we are already faced with a disgusting trend: pee drinking. This craze began as part of a Buzzfeed video. It has since then exploded on YouTube and on Facebook feeds. Just what about this is so popular? Well, it’s gross. Strange as the phenomenon may sound, there’s something about everyday gross things that fascinates people. Reaction videos have become very trendy in the past few years. This is just a more visceral kind of reaction.

Another big trend of 2016 are quick recipe videos. These short videos are addicting and are quickly picking up hype. The way is unclear for what’s next for Facebook and YouTube. Hopefully, it doesn’t involve any other bodily fluids.

In Other News, Facebook Might Start Monetizing Messenger

Analysts are predicting that Facebook might start charging some extra for use of its services. Recent news about an alliance with Uber suggests that there may be a commission fee for hitching a ride through Facebook instead of through the Uber app directly.

This is a plausible tactic that could really put Facebook on the map. They’re already generating serious profit, but this could put them on the top. Maybe they won’t need to share pee-drinking videos to be on people’s radar.

PlayStation VR Gets Flirty, Xbox Facebook and Samsung Lag - http://clapway.com/2016/01/09/playstation-gets-flirty-xbox-facebook-and-samsung-lag-123/

Bandai Namco is filing for a trademark of the term ‘Summer Lesson’ in honor of the upcoming Playstation VR video game. Xbox, Facebook and Samsung are lagging behind. Summer Lesson revolves around giving cute girls language lessons. With this announcement, it looks like cute VR is coming to the West.

Summer Lessons Was Expected to Be A Japan-Only Title

The VR component of the game involves gamers shaking or their heads in response to questions posed by the girls. Many of these questions concern the Japanese language. It also involves a lot of staring at these pretty girls, which would make it a more likely hit in Japan.

Playing a came about Japanese tutoring might also sell better in Japan than in the West. If it is headed for the Western hemisphere, then it’ll be most accessible for people who already speak Japanese. That being said, the game is pretty linear. All questions that the girls ask will have a yes or no answer.

PlayStation VR is Getting Greedier than the Samsung Gear VR

There could be some adjustments to the title if it does come to the West. The girls could be tutored in the English language as opposed to Japanese. On the other hand, they could be the ones teaching Japanese. If they really want to give it a twist for Western gamers, they could make the Japanese girls playable characters to be tutored by Japanese gamers.

Here lies the true power of virtual reality. Facebook just recently announced the starting price for their Oculus headset, tagged at $599. It’s expected to be an upgrade from Samsung Gear VR, which is also powered by Oculus. The Samsung Gear VR currently needs a Samsung Galaxy device as a screen, a problem that the Facebook Oculus VR will not have.

Xbox Will Soon Combine with the HoloLens

Xbox and the Microsoft HoloLens are making progress on their own front. Gamers, journalists and engineers have weighed in on their opinions on the HoloLens. It looks like with the Samsung Gear VR and Oculus, there’s still some work to be done. All in its own time, as it is now certain that the future of gaming is in virtual reality.

Facebook App Store Taunts iTunes App Store and Google Play Store - http://clapway.com/2016/01/07/facebook-app-store-taunts-app-store-and-google-play-store-123/

Apple, Google and Microsoft all have their own stores, and it looks like Facebook is feeling a little left out. The company is in the works to lanunch its own app store. This is possibly in case that its apps get kicked out of the Google Play Store or the stores of all other competition.

2. Amazon Online Store Clapway

A Facebook App Store is A Predictable Step

The company has been in vicious competition with Google in just about every way. In the event of expulsion from Google’s Play Store, they have some backup. This could be tied to the allegations claiming that Facebook has been conducting ‘contingency’ tests on their Android users. The goal was to make sure that the Facebook apps are operable on Android devices even if users don’t get them from the Google Play Store. In fact, the company has designed a way for users to get app updates and push notifications without going through the Google Play Store.

The Social Network Has Been Accused of Conducting Unethical Android Tests

These allegations are pretty strong. Google and Facebook have a decent enough relationship as things stand, so the Facebook apps will not be kicked out of the Google Play Store for now. New rumors claim that Mark Zuckerberg’s social media giant has been tinkering with its Android users for some time, which may have caused a strain among the two companies.

Specifically, Facebook was accused of making the Android Facebook app unavailable for users in an undisclosed location. They were redirected to a web link to download the Android app instead of the platform instead. Allegedly, users would not stop trying to open the app, and some resorted to accessing the social networking site through a mobile web browser.

If Push Comes to Shove, The Social Network Has A Lot of Options

In the case that the company’s apps do get kicked out of the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, it could launch an app on the Oculus VR app store. They could even extend the store so that it becomes an overarching platform. This would also support Facebook’s other popular apps: WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger.

If that’s not feasable, Facebook can join hands with original equipment manufacturers to have the Facebook app preloaded on certain devices. The Oculus VR app store is actually pre-installed on some Samsung phones. Whether or not the social media giant will resort to these measures is yet to be seen.

YouTube and Facebook Beat Twitch Thanks to Motorhead - http://clapway.com/2016/01/07/youtube-and-facebook-beat-twitch-thanks-to-motorhead-123/

The death if Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister stroke many this past December 28. YouTube will be hosting the Motorhead creator and frontman’s funeral this Saturday, January 9. The actual funeral will take place in Hollywood, but it will be streamed to the entire world.

YouTube Mourns Lemmy Kilmister

Motorhead released a statement on Facebook announcing the event. Friends and family are invited to personally attend the ceremony at the Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Los Angeles. The post provided a link to the stream, and it will be running from 3 PM PST to 4:30 PM PST on January 9. This is 11 PM GMT to 12:30 PM GMT.

Motorhead Brings Fans Together through Facebook and YouTube

In the post, Motorhead writes that they’d like all fans to be a part of the memorial service. This is why they’ve decided to host a stream on YouTube. The band encourages fans to gather at bars and clubs or anywhere with an internet connection where fans can come together. The goal is to collectively celebrate Lemmy’s life and his legacy as a heavy metal icon.

Alongside the stream, Motorhead is hosting an all-day celebration of Lemmy’s life at the Rainbow Bar and Grill in LA. This was Lemmy’s favorite bar and was the original venue for the memorial. However, because demand was too high, they were forced to move down the Sunset Strip. Two other LA bars, the Roxy and the Whisky, will be open to fans while the private memorial is going on between 5 PM and 9 PM PST.

The Difference Between Facebook, YouTube and Twitch

Social media is shaping daily life every minute of every day. Facebook and YouTube are a huge part of that change. There’s no stopping the internet now. If YouTube had been as widespread by the time Michael Jackson passed away, it would also have been streamed worldwide.

The point is, YouTube and Facebook are monsters. Smaller social media outlets like Twitch, Periscope and Snapchat have a long way to go before they catch up to these giants. These outlets will only get stronger, and they will eventually overpower TV and the radio. We have nowhere to run.

Facebook Messes With Android Users, But Not iOS - http://clapway.com/2016/01/06/facebook-messes-with-android-uses-but-not-ios-123/

The most widespread social network out there is facing some criticism because of a bug on its Android platform. Facebook is being accused of deliberately bugging the app on certain Android users just to test out how they would react. This isn’t the first time Facebook has faced this kind of issue, and it likely will not be the last.

Facebook Apple Clapway

Facebook Messes with Android Users for Emotional Experiment

The allegations claim that the platform made their app crash on purpose for some Android users. This was to test out if users would be discouraged from using the app at all. The apps were apparently crashing for a long period of time. According to an insider to the experiment, the results showed that users simply switched to the mobile web version of the social media network.

These Experiments Are Not Rare

The accusations are wild, but the actual details of the experiment are even wilder. Social media platforms are no stranger to these kinds of experiments. In fact, they depend on them in order to mold their interfaces and updates to user friendliness. In order to accomplish that, it must carry out a series of experiments.

The thing about this specific venture, though, is that testing for an emotional response might be above the social network’s ethical threshold. Last year, Facebook revealed that they’d conducted an experiment that studied ’emotional contagion’ on its users. This experiment involved filtering what users saw on their timelines to see if seeing sad or happy content made their posts sadder or happier.

The Truth is, Zuckerberg Crossed A Line

This clearly crosses some lines. Facebook has been making steady pushes to become fully integrated into modern life. It has been making many significant advances in regards to its makeup and their artificial intelligence. We can see this in big ways, in Facebook’s M and their Safety Check tool. It’s only natural that the social network receives backlash for trying to mess with user’s emotions.

Facebook Experiments on Users to Prepare for Google Attack

Google is dangerously close to dropping Facebook from the Google Play Store. These experiments are likely a way for the social network to see how well it can fare in case it is removed from platforms that belong to its competition. If Google takes out the Facebook app from its store, Facebook will lose a lot of traffic from Android OS devices.

It looks like they don’t have too much to worry about, though. If the results are true and users merely switched to the web version of the platform, they’ll be okay. That is unless Apple decides to drop the Facebook app from the App Store.

No Tests Revealed on iOS Users Yet

Facebook has made no recent experiments on iOS phones. This is probably because it won’t risk Apple taking down their app from the App Store. iOS users probably make up most of Facebook’s mobile traffic in the US, and they won’t sacrifice that anytime soon.

An experiment on iOS users could turn out equally interesting results. It’s, at least, worth entertaining. Who knows, maybe Mark Zuckerberg will upgrade Free Basics and make a real phone with real internet access that doesn’t dictate how anyone should use technology.

Facebook is for Old People, Snapchat is for the Young - http://clapway.com/2016/01/01/facebook-is-for-old-people-snapchat-is-for-the-young-123/

The statistics of 2015 show us some surprising figures. The age group that visited Facebook the most in the US were people between the ages of 25-54. On the other hand, 50% of Snapchat’s user base was composed of people between the ages of 13-17. So, is Facebook only for old people? Is Snapchat the new in app?

Facebook Snapchat Clapway

Statistics Show 25-34 Year Olds Make Up for 20.5% of Usage in the US

According to 2015 statistics, there was nearly the same amount of Facebook activity from 18-24 year olds as there were of 35-44 year olds. In fact, more than 10% of all usage in the US came from people in the ages between 45-54. These are no surprise, as it has become especially common for baby boomers to experiment with social media. Since Facebook was one of the first o get the trends started, it could be why it caught on with the older crowds first.

Snapchat is an Entirely Different Story

The figures for Snapchat say something else. According to their statistics, the main group of users (50% of them) are between the ages of 13-17. The next age group where it is most popular is 18-24, with 31% of all usage. Groups over 25 years old make up only 19% of the platform usage. This says quite a lot about the platform.

How Come the Figures Are So Different?

Snapchat is more accessible to younger crowds because of its privacy. Since users can specifically choose where their context goes and since the information is (mostly) transitory, it might be more comfortable for younger crowds. Not to mention it brings messaging to a higher degree by combining fleeting images with messages.

Snapchat is an Entirely Different Story Clapway

Older Age Groups Will Catch Up… Eventually

Facebook is used by people above 25 to communicate in a more massive scale. They don’t communicate messages to individual users, they look to communicate to everyone. It has become the place for parents to tell the stories regarding certain events, their jobs, families, loved ones and such. This is probably why Facebook will be the most popular platform for those age groups for a long time to come. Facebook is the place to tell stories, express messages and raise awareness. At least until they catch up to other platforms, time by which younger groups will have already jumped ship to a different one.
