Pinterest vs Snapchat: Who Is More Diverse? - http://clapway.com/2016/01/11/snapchat-vs-pinterest-who-is-more-diverse-123/

Pinterest is doing their best to go diverse and get out of their white CIS male comfort zone, while Snapchat is avoiding the question of diversity entirely. Today, diversity and equality are among the most relevant social issues, and it is only fair that it also applies to the people who run social media.

Pinterest Instagram Clapway

Diversity in Snapchat and Pinterest

The team behind Snapchat have never given any specifics as to their staff body. The company had 30 in staff a few years ago, and the number has spread to over 300 since. Snapchat is one of the fastest growing platforms on the internet, but they’re quite secretive.

Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel has spoken mildly of diversity, declaring that he doesn’t count in numbers but in awareness. He has claimed diversity among the team, but hasn’t specified in numbers. The transparency could be interpreted as lying, but Snapchat is the kind of platform that needs to remain transparent.

In short words, all Snapchat does is provide with a way for people to communicate. The people who run the platform only need to worry about user safety and censorship where it is due. So far, Snapchat hasn’t received criticism for lack of diversity. In fact, its Discover tab displays snaps from all over the world. Regardless of what corners we see, Snapchat does work of putting the world in front of user’s eyes. Now, whether or not these stories are filtered is an entirely different story.

The truth is Snapchat hasn’t answered any questions about diversity in detail. It’s likely that they won’t, at least until the company grows a little bigger. Maybe then they will be more comfortable disclosing that information or the internet will come for their heads.

Pinterest Owns Diversity in 2016

Pinterest has just gotten their first head of diversity. This position will be in charge of giving the Pinterest staff body a way to get out of the white and male employee body. The new head of diversity is Candice Morgan, a black woman.

The announcement received positive response, unlike Twitter. The latter announced a white man as head of diversity, and they received serious negative backlash for it. Morgan’s plan is to hire women to make part of at least 30% of incoming engineers. She will also work on getting at least 18% of the engineering body from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds and implement a ‘Rooney Rule’. This means that at least one minority candidate and one female candidate will be interviewed for all leadership positions.

Pinterest is also auditing pay to make sure that there is fair payment for men and women. Now there’s some diversity done right. The firm will likely be getting a lot more support from its user base, who are women spread across all walks of life and races.

Facebook is for Old People, Snapchat is for the Young - http://clapway.com/2016/01/01/facebook-is-for-old-people-snapchat-is-for-the-young-123/

The statistics of 2015 show us some surprising figures. The age group that visited Facebook the most in the US were people between the ages of 25-54. On the other hand, 50% of Snapchat’s user base was composed of people between the ages of 13-17. So, is Facebook only for old people? Is Snapchat the new in app?

Facebook Snapchat Clapway

Statistics Show 25-34 Year Olds Make Up for 20.5% of Usage in the US

According to 2015 statistics, there was nearly the same amount of Facebook activity from 18-24 year olds as there were of 35-44 year olds. In fact, more than 10% of all usage in the US came from people in the ages between 45-54. These are no surprise, as it has become especially common for baby boomers to experiment with social media. Since Facebook was one of the first o get the trends started, it could be why it caught on with the older crowds first.

Snapchat is an Entirely Different Story

The figures for Snapchat say something else. According to their statistics, the main group of users (50% of them) are between the ages of 13-17. The next age group where it is most popular is 18-24, with 31% of all usage. Groups over 25 years old make up only 19% of the platform usage. This says quite a lot about the platform.

How Come the Figures Are So Different?

Snapchat is more accessible to younger crowds because of its privacy. Since users can specifically choose where their context goes and since the information is (mostly) transitory, it might be more comfortable for younger crowds. Not to mention it brings messaging to a higher degree by combining fleeting images with messages.

Snapchat is an Entirely Different Story Clapway

Older Age Groups Will Catch Up… Eventually

Facebook is used by people above 25 to communicate in a more massive scale. They don’t communicate messages to individual users, they look to communicate to everyone. It has become the place for parents to tell the stories regarding certain events, their jobs, families, loved ones and such. This is probably why Facebook will be the most popular platform for those age groups for a long time to come. Facebook is the place to tell stories, express messages and raise awareness. At least until they catch up to other platforms, time by which younger groups will have already jumped ship to a different one.

Girls Become Bigger Sluts with Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat - http://clapway.com/2015/12/16/girls-become-bigger-sluts-with-instagram-facebook-and-snapchat/

If the title just insulted you I do apologize, but you can not deny it. Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and just the Internet as a whole have made girls bigger sluts. Now, this is not saying that all girls around the world are sluts, but the internet is creating more and more.

Girls Become Bigger Sluts with Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat

THE INTERNET IS MAKING MORE GIRLS SLUTS

If you ask 100 people what the internet is best for, I bet a majority of them would say porn. Let’s face it, the internet is a huge porn box. Anyone and anybody can look up porn on the web. This would be excluding children whose parents have blocked that type of content. However, you get the point. Not only this but the fact that it seems more women are exposing themselves on social media websites. It has almost become the new trend of the world today.

Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat

FACEBOOK ONE OF THE SERVICES THAT INCREASES SLUTS

Facebook is one of the largest social media platforms in the world right now. They do have a strict policy on sexual content. However, conversations between people about sexual intercourse are still easy to get away with. With the world more exposed to sexual content than ever before, people’s minds start to think differently. Facebook makes it easy for women to communicate, or even men for that matter, about setting up a time to have sex.

Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat

INSTAGRAM AND SNAPCHAT ARE A CAUSE FOR SLUTS TOO

Facebook is not the only service attributed to more sluts around the world. Instagram and Snapchat are not helping either. Instagram is fairly similar to Facebook, and anything that was said about Facebook could be said about Instagram. Snapchat is mainly a video application service. One could already see where this can be a problem with sexual content. Sexual content can be shared between two people.

VANITY FAIR RAN A HOOK-UP APP

Vanity Fair previously this year ran a feature naming hook-up app entitled Tinder. What this app does is connect users to an unlimited amount of sexual partners. So, this app was turning the users into sexual addicts. This actually forced the AIDS Healthcare Foundation to run ads notifying the public that Tinder increases the amount of sexually transmitted diseases. In other words, Tinder was creating more and more sluts every day. The problem with all of this is it is probably too late for the world to change.

Woman Sex Slut Social Media

FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, AND SNAPCHAT ARE POWERLESS

These three companies intent was not to create more sluts in the world. However, due to the insane amount of porn on the web, and a society that symbolizes sex much differently than in the past, they have. The problem is, is that they are powerless to stop it. They can not just shut down their services because that would kill their businesses. However, they also must know that their services allow people an easier time to communicate and partake in sexual activities.

DOES THE PORN INDUSTRY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN?

DOES THE PORN INDUSTRY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN?

There might be one solution to stop the outrageous amount of sex present in our world today. Shutting down the porn industry would solve a lot of these problems. However, I highly doubt that that will ever happen. It should really be considered, though. Not only for the amount of people being brainwashed with sexual content but for the amount of people suffering from STD’s and HIV. As long as the internet has porn large social media websites, like Facebook and Instagram will still have more girls turning into sluts.

Google Pisses Snapchat Fans Off - http://clapway.com/2015/12/09/google-pisses-snapchat-fans-off123/

Snapchat has been going through some issues with Live feeds, sending and receiving messages from friends and updates in the Discover widget. The Discover section for companies like the Food Network and CNN have been faulty as well. The company has been working on solving these issues since Monday night, to now avail.

Snapchat Fans Google

A Boring Few Days for People Under 24 All Over the World

This isn’t the first time that the service has been faulty, but this is the most widespread bug since Snapchat introduced ads to its platform. This means that thanks to this bug, Snapchat is potentially losing millions in revenue for itself and for the 20 publishers that are on its Discover widget that benefit from ad revenue.

Publishers update content once a day, and it’s possible that none of them were able to display their content properly thanks to this bump on the road. There are only three apps in the entirety of the entirety of the internet that stream as much content as Snapchat, if not more. These forces are the strongest in the web: YouTube, Facebook and Google. Besides these titans, this service accounts for more mobile data usage in high traffic times in North America than any other service online.

Snapchat Lag is Due to A Google App Engine Outage

The only major app affected by a Google App Engine outage is Snapchat. The issues have since then been fixed. The service has become an increasingly competitive platform for social media, and as it grows, hopefully so will its stake on Google Apps, as it currently generates about $25 million for the engine. That being said, it’s also possible that it loses popularity thanks to the introduction of ads and other more ‘commercialized’ features. To be truthful, this is the only way that Snapchat can get mutual benefits from big corporations, but hopefully it will be panned out so that user experience is optimized.

Snapchat is The Loser of The Year - http://clapway.com/2015/11/24/snapchat-is-7-times-worse-now123/

Snapchat lowers its cost for ad placement by a monstrous $600,000, and even with the slashed down expense, just a number of significant brands will get in on the action. Just a year go, it was set to $700,000, and currently it has been decreased by $600,000, but the $100,000 entry isn’t really inviting for potential investors.

Snapchat Has Few Fans When it Comes to Ads

With more than 100 million active users daily, it’s no secret why brand names want to obtain a piece of the Snapchat pie, in addition to the fact that that 63% of those customers are categorized as millennials, an enticing demographic. Investors are concerned about Snapchat’s $16 billion value, as it doesn’t appear to have revealed routine earnings yet. Fidelity lowered the appreciate of its stake in Snapchat by 25% back in September, making the company seem unable of satisfying advertisers’ expectations.

700,000 to 100,000 Real Quick

Brands that market on Snapchat are questioning whether the steep cost is worthwhile when the firm lags when it concerns targeting particular customers and also measuring advertisements’ efficiency. Despite Snapchat’s lack of social media coverage, General Electric tattooed a deal for a second advertising campaign to run throughout the vacations for 2 weeks.

Snapchat

Analysts Say It’s Already Below 100K

Today, The App is the best platform for brand names trying to find some large direct exposure, as countless young people make use of the message application each day. Experts believe that the price will continue to fall as the company tries to show its profit-making abilities to investors. A sector source even believes that the minimal cost has dropped listed below the $100,000 cost factor already.

Here"s The Reason Why Snapchat is Cheap
 - http://clapway.com/2015/11/14/heres-why-snapchat-is-cheap%e2%80%a8123/

Snapchat is Cheap
?

Snapchat first introduced in-app purchases with replays, and now it’s extending in-app purchases with the arrival of Snapchat Lens Store. The store’s been released today, and it’s supposed to offer users the best way to spice their selfies. Lenses have been available for some time, seven at a time and free of charge, but there will be 30 extra options available for pay. Once purchased for $.99 (plus tax), users get to keep them forever.

Snapchat - Clapway

Because Snapchat Doesn’t Have Enough Selfie Adjustment Options

The new in-app purchases are available in the United States, Canada, UK, Australia, Brazil Saudi Arabia and some European countries. Snapchat is looking to expand the feature worldwide.

Selfie Enthusiasts Should Get the Snapchat Update

The update is available through iTunes or Google Play, and in addition to the new lenses, Snapchat is adding ‘Official Stories’ to thei rapp, which allows users to see and follow verified celebrity accounts.

Celebrity presence has increased on Snapchat recently, as well as people posing as celebrities, and much like Instagram and Twitter, Snapchat is looking to verify official accounts to avoid confusion among users.

Why Snapchat is Charging for Lenses

The Lenses feature on Snapchat caused a stir since its inception; this feature is arguably what made Snapchat unique and fun, and the fact that the company is now charging users for their use might generate some profit despite the hate that might bubble.

Of course nothing that’s good is free, and Snapchat has shown ample proof of it. The great thing is, people are more than willing to spend 99c for it if it means better selfies.

Snapchat Privacy Policy Update Confusion Clarified - http://clapway.com/2015/11/03/snapchat-privacy-policy-update-confusion-clarified123/

The revised Privacy Policy of popular app Snapchat confused many users, especially in regards to the new clause that gave Snapchat ownership of all content sent through the application. Many current Snapchat users felt this was a blatant breach of privacy, and the company took to their official blog to clarify the situation.

Snapchat - CLapway

The statement says that Snapchat included that clause only to ensure that they would have permission to recast or replay snapchats that would go to features such as Discover or Live Stories, and clarified that privacy settings can be adjusted to limit this by individual users.

Otherwise, the company continues to follow the policy that states that all content is deleted from their servers once it expires or is viewed by the appropriate recipients and it is not at all sold to business partners or advertisers.

Snapchat users can rest assured that Snapchat is not violating users’ private information, and that their access can be limited by the users themselves.

The popular #socialmedia app #Snapchat released a three-feature #update this week: Lenses, Trophies, and Paid Replays. - http://clapway.com/2015/09/17/snapchat-update123/

The popular social media app Snapchat released a three-feature update this week: Lenses, Trophies, and Paid Replays.

SNAPCHAT UPDATES

Lenses

If you have Snapchat, you have probably seen by now the grotesque images of your friends vomiting rainbows and donning wrinkly-faced, monocled old-man grimaces. The Lenses update appears to be the product of Snapchat acquiring and implementing facial recognition software. The result is very similar to the real-time photo and video distortions we’re familiar with from Apple’s Photo Booth effects page–only stranger.

To activate the feature, first make sure you’ve installed the app’s most recent update. Next, open your front-facing camera in the app as though you’re about to take a selfie. Then, press and hold on your face. Seven Lens options will appear next to the shutter button for you to play around with: a grotesque zombie, a terminator-type screen, heart eyes, weeping tears, a face full of wrinkles, a strange mustachioed vampire-looking option, and of course, the rainbow vomit.

Snapchat Releases its New Three-Feature Update - ClapwayThe Lenses appear to be one more in a string of features Snapchat has unveiled that make it more fun for us to play with pictures of our own faces. Between Lenses, geotags, text enhancement options, and the classic drawing tools from the original version, sending pictures on Snapchat is really more like creating and sharing little works of goofy art.

Trophies

The new Trophies feature will award stickers to users for unlocking certain achievements, like sending ten snaps with the front-facing flash on. It appears to be a continuation of the recent emojis update that labeled your best friends (and your peon devotees of unrequited admiration), which included a feature that kept tabs on your snap streaks with other users. These are features that drive engagement and encourage you to set usage goals on the app. They keep you coming back, which means more users, more user dependence, and more potential revenue from in-app advertisements. Snapchat is a business, too.

Paid Replays

And that brings us to the paid Replays. For $0.99, you can now replay three different snaps of your choosing, one time each. It’s the first in-app purchase for Snapchat, and it essentially allows you to undo the fundamental impermanence of digital image sharing that the medium is built on. We all got into Snapchat because it offered freedom from the high stakes of Internet permanence. Of course, this required work in order to convince ourselves that all those snaps really aren’t archived anywhere accessible (which I think we all knew wasn’t the case).

Touché, Snapchat. Maybe now we’ll think twice before sending anything extra-questionable. But I stand by the replay value of the five-chin selfies. Accidentally sending one of those to my crush instead of to my sister was about as liberating as it gets for a millennial.

#LiveText is #Yahoo"s new answer to #better #connection in the #DigitalAge - http://clapway.com/2015/07/30/yahoo-launches-the-frankenstein-of-messaging-apps-and-its-called-livetext-342/

On Wednesday, Yahoo announced that it would be releasing a new messaging app that takes the best part of all the messaging apps before it. It’s called Livetext and it lets users see each other but not hear each other.

Yahoo’s Frankenstein

Livetext takes features from FaceTime, Skype, Snapchat, Meerkat, and Periscope and combines them to create a messaging app that doesn’t exist to compete with these platforms but complement them.

Adam Cahan, senior vice president of video, design, and emerging products of Yahoo, believes that audio can be inhibiting in some situations where you may want to see who you are communicating with, but can’t audibly talk to them.

With that in mind, Livetext allows users to chat via text and emojis like Periscope, it doesn’t archive media or other files like Snapchat, and it organizes contact lists and friend quests similar to Facebook Messenger and Snapchat.

Yahoo Doesn’t Believe Livetext is a Competitor to Its Peers

Cahan believes that Livetext serves a niche that will be carved out once people begin to see how useful it can be. If a user is commuting to work via public transportation and they want to FaceTime someone, it can be difficult to accomplish in such a noisy environment. Similarly, there are sometimes when a user doesn’t want to communicate solely via text and may want to see who they are talking to. Situations like these are what Yahoo hopes users will take advantage of by using Livetext.

“And what we found in our user studies and testing was that they found new times to use the product, starting to engage more and more frequently, and having more and more conversations on our service. They definitely get it,” said Cahan.

Livetext Will be Launching July 30

Last quarter, Yahoo reported that 20% of its revenue came from mobile. Historically, it hasn’t been interested in pursuing many social services, but it looks like that may soon begin to change as Yahoo bolsters its communication services with Livetext.

Yahoo said users in the United States and four other countries can begin to download the app on their Android and iOS devices on thursday.

You Can Now Post HD Quality Videos to Vine - http://clapway.com/2015/07/12/you-can-now-post-hd-quality-videos-to-vine543/

NEW VINE UPDATES MADE IT EASY TO find, play, and share VINES

The famous six-second (actually, six-and-a-half-second) Twitter video service, Vine, just updated its app to make it easier to search for popular video creators. Twitter has also brought a new way to find other Vines that will interest you by typing specific phrases. Along with this, there is now an easier way to search for Viners you want to discover and to find things you are interested by typing phrases instead of hashtags.

If you want to search for more Viners to enjoy, then open the new “Suggested Viners” section. This “Suggested Viners” section was curated by the website’s team to make sure that the Viners on the list really have worthy content.

Those on the Vine list are the creators of the famous six-second videos that users share common interests with and are hand selected by Vine’s Team. The new features also allow for you to search for other Vines that will interest you by typing certain phrases. This is an upgrade from the previous version that only allowed for usernames and hashtags.

VINE NO LONGER RUNS IN ITS ORIGINAL 480P

In addition to all of the new search updates, Vine also now features the ability for iOS users to view content in 720p, up from the original 480p that Vines started out in. Uploads will all be done in 720p HD. In order to get these features on Android, iOS, and Windows-run phones, you must update the Vine app. The new features can only be accessed by updating the Vine app, and then going to the “Your Content” section. Vine also recently began allowing users to link their address books and Twitter accounts outside of their immediate friends and Twitter networks.

INSTAGRAM DOES AND VINE DOES TOO

All of the updates to the Vine app are similar to the to the ones made to Instagram. Instagram’s latest update allowed it to support 1080p image and video uploads on its app. The fact that the two services’ updates fell within such short time of each other is no coincidence – Instagram is owned by part of Twitter’s competition, Facebook.

Who Remembers Life Before Smartphones, Facebook, and Instagram? - http://clapway.com/2015/07/01/who-remembers-life-before-smartphones-facebook-and-instagram876/

Life before smartphones and social media took over the world (wide web) went on just fine less than ten years ago. In the days of my childhood in the nineties, there was no Facebook messenger to socialise on, nor was there Tinder to efficiently swipe right and meet the man or woman (in some very rare occasions) of your dreams. Before smartphones, all mobiles with a color screen were considered smart, and as for filtering the life out of a photograph you took on Instagram to represent your day – who knew photographic filters on a mobile phone would even exist? Let’s take a trip down memory lane to reminisce about what life was like before the internet and all it’s social media offspring swept us all off our feet and into a stationary, techno-dependent existence.

Msn Messenger

Who else used to run home from school and wait for 30 minutes for the computer to load and for the internet connection to last before someone made a phone call and stopped your creative MSN Messenger emoji name in mid track? While many of my friends had heard hitting, emotional song lyrics as their display name (to prove to their friends just how hard it was being a teenager), mine was “rEmeMber me, I am gOing to Be fAmous” (flower emoji, heart emoji). So very modest I have to say. Thankfully for my generation, it is impossible to retrieve old MSN conversations and hilariously embarrassing names. Phew.

Nokia 3310

If you owned this phone, then you can guess how old I am. This was my first phone when I was ten years old. At the time, it was strange that I had a phone so early (I just wanted it so I could dress it in different skins – I had outgrown Barbies). As a result of having nobody else to text other than my parents and friends older siblings, I spent a lot of time playing Snake. Far too much time perhaps – especially as I never got past level 3.

Polyphonic Ringtones

At the back of your favourite magazines, you could ring up a sketchy sounding company on the telephone from your home and order a ringtone that made your phone sound like the winning contender from X Factor. At over $6 a time, they weren’t cheap to buy. However, I had Black Eyed Peas waiting to play when I got a call. Unfortunately, I only ever got texts. I did phone myself once though and it did sound worthy of the $6. Phew.

Camera Phones

Now, I know that camera phones are a basic essential today, but it wasn’t until I was 16 that I got my first pixilated photo taken from my mobile. I couldn’t believe it. I remember thinking, “Oh I wonder what will come next” – maybe you will be able to watch television on your mobile. Today, with the help of wifi – you can indeed do that too. Camera phones used to require a lead to plug into you computer in order to print them out or change your MSN display photo. There was no filtering, apart from maybe changing it to black and white on Paint. Can you believe we couldn’t even email them to each other

Who else wonders what life will be like in the next ten years? Today’s generation don’t even know what it was like without wifi, let alone the Internet. With all the new apps and social media sites at our hands, anything seems possible. Everything, except for going back to life before smartphones, that is. That seems a very strange, slow world. How did we survive it?

Snapchat Tap to View Feature Added - http://clapway.com/2015/07/01/snapchat-tap-to-view-feature-added678/

Changing What We Know About Snapchat

If you’ve had Snapchat for a long time, you know what you’re getting at this point. If your friend sends you a snap or you want to view someone’s story, you hold your finger down and you watch the whole thing. That’s just how it’s always been! What once seemed like a strange inconvenience – you need to hold down for the entire time? – became, if not a comfort, just a thing you do. You got used to it. But Snapchat realized that even if you were used to it, it could be better. Snapchat has announced that with its newest update, holding down to view has been done away with, and replaced by Snapchat’s tap to view feature.

Get Used To More Convenience- Snapchat Tap to view

As said earlier, holding down your thumb to view a snap had become one of Snapchat’s defining qualities. Your thumb slips, you stop seeing the picture or video. And if your friend had a 5 minute story for you to watch? That meant one sore thumb, and one annoying friend. The Snapchat Tap to View Feature is designed to undo one of the first things you associate with Snapchat, a move that would be confusing if they weren’t eliminating such an objectively unnecessary issue. Still, a new post on Snapchat’s blog anticipates that if you’ve been an avid Snapchat user for some time, there’s a good chance this will take some getting used to. But ultimately, they know the Snapchat Tap To View a good thing that’s bound to go over well, happily claiming to do away with tired thumbs.

Other Updates

With Snapchat’s Tap to View Feature being the marquee update, it could be easy for other updates to get lost in the shuffle. Snapchat has also added a tool called Add Nearby, which allows you to quickly add friends in your nearby area. They’ve also upgraded Snapcodes, even allowing you to include a selfie in the code. Still, the Snapchat Tap to View Feature remains the most essential to these updates, being the most frequently utilized feature.
