Google comes up with smart jeans, yes smart jeans! Till date, Google offered smart watches, phones, glasses and what not. Google’s advanced research arm that is Advanced Technology and Projects (Atap) division demonstrated its latest find at the I/O developer conference in San Francisco. In past, Atap, Google’s division has showcased high level projects such as Project Tango and Project Ara. This year Atap came up with Project Jacquard. This is all about controlling you devices like TV, smartphone, computers or tablets just by rubbing your thighs. Google is on its toes to do it. The smart fabric is going to be laced with conductive wire which works like that of a touchscreen layer that can detect the changes in conductance just when it is touched. The woven textile tracks and monitors the touch and it shall work like a laptop trackpad used to control any kind of functions. In this regard, the company has partnered with well-known Levi’s to develop smart clothing that shall integrate Jacquard’s technology within special touch sensitive locations. Quite when you’ll be able to buy touch-sensitive jeans was not announced, but Google’s not the only one working on smart clothing.

Google came up with products at the conference too. The second more exciting product was project Soli. Google created a radar system that is capable of registering the hand gestures created in the mid-air. As per Google, this small radar could be embedded into any surface thus developing a control zone above it in the air.

Yet another product was Project Abacus. All of us know that we have several login IDs and passwords to remember. At times we tend to forget them to. This smart solution aims to take away the pain of remembering passwords. Google’s Abacus replaces remembering the passwords with that of human interaction. It is a simple process. We all have one unique way of hold a devices and typing on the keyboard. Abacus captures that information and utilizes it to verify when the user says who he is instead of needing certain login details. It also involves facial recognition and identifying the user. Google’s developers call this smart, new conductive fabric Project Jacquard. It is set be the new touchpad and will run on Wi-Fi to interact with your devices. Jacquard will be able to sense variations of finger use as well as finger pressure. Your finger’s motions across the fabric would be able to change features on your smart devices such as brightness and color, as well as pausing, playing, rewinding, etc. on a media player. Gestures will also be both customizable to your comfort, and the smart technology could learn patterns of usage by gathering data from your most commonly used gestures.

Pros and Cons of Touchscreen Google Pants

This fabric can add efficiency and speed to endeavors and research in science, medicine, and technology.

A possible issue could be making sure accidental touches and gestures aren’t too big a nuisance. Ideally, there would be a solution that prevents random touches from happening — much like pocket dialing or butt dialing. With Google pants and Project Jacquard, butt dialing might no longer be an accident.
