According to a Nielsen report from 2014, the average #American watches about five hours of #TV every day. This data is quickly becoming obsolete. - http://clapway.com/2015/09/13/apps-surpass-tv-091/

Think about this: when you’re sitting at home after a long day’s work, you’re probably watching TV, aren’t you? Probably. According to a Nielsen report from 2014, the average American watches about five hours of television every day. This data is quickly becoming a thing of the past, however. A new report from Flurry says that people are actually spending more time using mobile applications than they are watching TV. The crazy thing? The amount of time spent watching TV hasn’t decreased.

PLENTY OF PEOPLE ARE STILL WATCHING TV

Nielsen received part of their information from a 2015 U.S. consumers report. According to the report, people spend an astounding 198 minutes in mobile apps every day, which is 20 minutes more than they’re spending watching TV (168 minutes). The same report indicates that these is up considerably from last year’s 139 minutes, and the 126 minutes in 2013.

The report says that there is no way to gather data on how much of this time is spent overlapping. Plenty of people will browse their phones while watching TV or during commercials. Apps also happen to be pretty easy to get in and out of quickly. Maybe people check Facebook while they’re walking to the bathroom, or while stopped at a red light on the way home (though they shouldn’t). The fact is, it’s like comparing apples to oranges.

OTHER STATISTICS

The report doesn’t just cover how apps compare to watching TV. According to the report, mobile users have also been “trained” to purchase content through mobile apps. What some might consider “TV” apps have surprisingly found their way to the top of the top-grossing apps, a place that used to be a popular hangout for gaming apps. The report believes that media companies could “move its content to apps and stream it over-the-top, charge consumers for it through the App Stores, and still make money from ads.”

APPLE WANTS TO COMBINE TV AND APPS

Following Apple’s news about the new Apple TV, Apple CEO Tim Cook had a lot to say about what he envisions to be the future of TV.

“We believe the future of television is apps. In fact, this transition has already begun,” said Cook. The new Apple TV sports a brand new operating system call tvOS, and has its own version of the app store. Users will be able to stream content, shop, play games, and do just about anything they would with their phone, but on the big screen. A lot of people are watching TV online, and Apple is trying to be one of the first companies to embrace this behavior.

U. S.: Google comes up with a range of smart products at I/O developer conference - http://clapway.com/2015/06/01/google-comes-up-with-a-range-of-smart-products-at-io-developer-conference-in-san-francisco123/

Google comes up with smart jeans, yes smart jeans! Till date, Google offered smart watches, phones, glasses and what not. Google’s advanced research arm that is Advanced Technology and Projects (Atap) division demonstrated its latest find at the I/O developer conference in San Francisco. In past, Atap, Google’s division has showcased high level projects such as Project Tango and Project Ara. This year Atap came up with Project Jacquard. This is all about controlling you devices like TV, smartphone, computers or tablets just by rubbing your thighs. Google is on its toes to do it. Apart from smart jeans, Google is offering something more. Just read this piece and know more.

The smart fabric is going to be laced with conductive wire which works like that of a touchscreen layer that can detect the changes in conductance just when it is touched. The woven textile tracks and monitors the touch and it shall work like a laptop trackpad used to control any kind of functions. In this regard, the company has partnered with well-known Levi’s to develop smart clothing that shall integrate Jacquard’s technology within special touch sensitive locations. Quite when you’ll be able to buy touch-sensitive jeans was not announced, but Google’s not the only one working on smart clothing.

Google came up with products at the conference too. The second more exciting product was project Soli. Google created a radar system that is capable of registering the hand gestures created in the mid-air. As per Google, this small radar could be embedded into any surface thus developing a control zone above it in the air.

Yet another product was Project Abacus. All of us know that we have several login IDs and passwords to remember. At times we tend to forget them to. This smart solution aims to take away the pain of remembering passwords. Google’s Abacus replaces remembering the passwords with that of human interaction. It is a simple process. We all have one unique way of hold a devices and typing on the keyboard. Abacus captures that information and utilizes it to verify when the user says who he is instead of needing certain login details. It also involves facial recognition and identifying the user. Are you looking for something smart like this? Keep your fingers crossed. The devices may be available in the market in near future. Go ahead!
