The ongoing wonder on whether or not extraterrestrial life exists is not going to go away after this news. UFO researchers unveiled yet another image of the sun that they claim is a spacecraft. However, NASA, who usually never comments on this kind if stuff, talked a little bit about the supposedly new discovery.

YET ANOTHER SUPPOSED UFO SPOTTED

NASA has the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory satellite that is constantly monitoring the sun. This satellite is orbiting the sun 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with absolutely no interruptions. The researchers showed the newest image that the satellite took, and there certainly looked like there was something around it. However, considering how hot the sun is, that seems very unlikely. However, that is not stopping the researchers from claiming it. As a matter of fact, Streetcap1, the researcher who made the find, stated how this one was hard to argue. Streetcap1 states that there is an object in the image that is way more advanced that anything humans could create. Streetcap1 seems pretty confident that this is a UFO.

THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME A UFO HAS BEEN REPORTED

This is certainly not the fist time that a NASA photo has supposedly discovered a UFO sighting. In one story there was a reported UFO that was the size of the moon. As a matter of fact, there were two such instances that were reported. Another researcher claimed that they saw around one thousand rockets near the sun. This is an ongoing claim that will seemingly never stop.

WHAT NASA IS SAYING ABOUT THIS

NASA usually does not like talking about UFO sightings, but they did talk a little about this latest claim. However, they are not quite sold on the fact that these are indeed UFO sightings. The members of NASA state that such images are most likely hot spots. Hot spots make it look like something is there, but in actuality, it is just emanating extreme brightness. They also stated how in the past they have been accused of covering up UFO sightings, and that people won’t accept their explanations.

WILL NASA LOOK INTO THIS MORE?

The more times that this comes up, the more interested NASA is going to become. It seems fairly clear that NASA does not believe these are alien spacecraft’s. However, eventually, they might have to take a further look just to make sure they are right.

Virgin Galactic is not done yet. They have officially announced that they are planning on launching satellites from their Boeing 747. They also announced that they will have a LauncherOne rocket that will be mounted under the aircraft’s wing. This will provide a high-altitude platform for the aircraft.

THE COMPANY OF VIRGIN GALACTIC COMMENTS

The CEO of Virgin Galactic, George Whitesides, said in a statement a few reasons why they chose the platform that they did. Whitesides mentions how this airframe will provide the company with a more substantial payload. He also says that it will allow the company to not have to spend more money than is needed. He also commented and said that this will allow them to provide their satellite customers with fast responses to their needs. This aircraft will also be able to handle nearly 900 pounds of payloads.

ANOTHER MEMBER OF VIRGIN GALACTIC THRILLED

The founder of Virgin Galactic, Richard Branson, is absolutely thrilled that they got their aircraft back online. They said that its name is Cosmic Girl. Branson voices out on how excited he is to see one of their 747 aircraft’s go back in space. He mentions how he never thought it would happen and that this gives Cosmic Girl another chance to succeed. This is great for Virgin Galactic. All companies love second chances for their products to succeed, and hopefully Cosmic Girl will.

NO NEWS ON WHEN VIRGIN GALACTIC WILL LAUNCH

All that we know now is the fact that they will launch this aircraft. However, it is not been revealed by the company when they will do it. One would think that it will be soon given how excited the company is. However, all precautions need to be made and it can not be launched until it is 100 percent safe. When that day comes it will surely be exciting for all space enthusiasts around the world.

Recently, The Arkyd 3 was launched into outer space in order to test its software for asteroid mining. It is orbiting Earth for 90 days to make sure everything is working properly for this new space endeavor. If the Arkyd 3 is successful, the Arkyd 6 will be launched in order to try out a mid-wave infrared sensor. The sensor will help detect sources of water and metals on asteroids. Asteroid mining opens up different opportunities for the future of space exploration and the citizens of Earth.

Here are five wonderful benefits of asteroid mining:

1. Iron is a rare metal on Earth but in abundance in space. Asteroid Mining will keep our batteries coming, which will keep our cities bright and communities safe.

You those waves that you sometimes see in clouds? They look like the kind of waves surfers would love to surf. Or, they just look like rolling hills. Well, now they can be seen in space.

Who noticed the resemblance?

A paper was published back in May with Nature magazine, covering the idea of how solar wind plasma interacts with the magnetosphere, and how that can cause what is known as the Kelvin-Helmholtz waves. If you did not know, the magnetosphere is what helps protect us from solar winds and the like.

When solar plasma is released from the Sun and heads toward Earth, the magnetosphere is there as a defender, and dampens the wind around the planet, also forcing it to go around Earth without it affecting us too much. This time, however, it creates a rolling hill effect. Or, a wave effect, if you prefer.

Previous Knowledge of the rolling hills

What little is known about the waves was that they existed at the brink of the magnetosphere, but only show once in a blue moon on the scope. However, with this new surge, they reevaluated their thinking and estimated that the waves are more frequent about twenty percent of the time.

Also, the waves can come up pretty much at any time and in under any circumstances. The conclusions were taken from examining data from NASA’s ACE and THEMIS where the team on the study saw the rolling hills and measured them.

Other theories

However there are other suggestions for the cause of the waves. Another study that was published in the Journal of Geophysical Research fairly recently on the 26th of June suggested that the rolling hills are a result of a plume of plasma was extended toward the magnetosphere by the plasmasphere. This plume of plasma would make the magnetosphere thicker in a sense and thereby create waves, as other researchers have seen.

But whatever the theories researchers have about what exactly is causing the rolling hills effect, all parties agreed on one thing. Further research will be needed to understand space atmosphere and other potential threats, etc.

Flaring sun resembled a kaleidoscope

Once again at the National Astronomy Meeting in Llandudno, Wales, some new exciting science research and news came up. On July 7th, the NAM released a press release on the Sun with accompanying x-rays that turned into an x-ray extravaganza.

The resulting images looks like the sun turned into a quasi-kaleidoscope, with some areas of the Sun lighting up from flare activity. According to one astronomer with the University of Glasgow, Ianin Hannah, in a press release by the Royal Astronomical Society, the activity seems to be dimming down. However, the process of dimming will still be a few years coming before it reaches its minimum activity level. Perhaps a few less heat waves? Here’s to hoping.

NuSTAR captures the Sun

NuSTAR usually observes black holes and other such things, but was used to study the Sun one day. NuSTAR’s mission is to focus light on high energy x-rays, which in this case revealed areas lit up in the images to be the work of nanoflares. This tells scientists why the Sun is so much hotter on an atmospheric level, and because these nanoflares are smaller in comparison to other things that occur on the Sun, we wouldn’t normally be able to see them were it not for the x-ray images.

But because other flares occur more visibly to telescopes than the nanoflares, detecting them with the NuSTAR was difficult. However, this particular instrument finally succeeded.

Hindrance

Since the Sun is particularly active now, as evident by the solar flares hitting Earth a few weekends ago twice in one week, circumstances make it difficult to study the smaller nanoflares. This is why the dimming down in activity is a good thing. It makes for studying the nanoflares easier without the disrupting larger solar flares getting in the way. Ironically, the Sun is near the end of the quiet session in its eleven year cycle, yet still remaining really active this year.

Once the activity cools down, researchers hope to pinpoint where and how these nanoflares are produced on the Sun. Just don’t try to spot them yourself by staring at it.

On July 1, Rocket Lab announced it will be the first commercial company to build and operate an orbital launch site. New Zealand, specifically the Canterbury region, will be the home base for Rocket Lab’s new endeavor.

Rocket Lab plans to transport small satellites to Low Earth orbit. The satellites will be used for imaging and communication task such as weather monitoring, crop optimization, natural disaster management, search and rescue data, GPS, and internet from space.

New Zealand was picked because of its access to high inclination and sun-synchronous orbits, which is perfect for small satellites. This location has low air and sea traffic as well, which is important for frequent launch.

Launch frequency from this site makes Rocket Lab closer to its goal of making space commercially accessible and is needed to meet the demands of customers. The launch site is projected to be completed by the end of 2015 and will be at the affordable price of $4.9 million. What if you had $4.9 million to spend on a satellite just for your benefit? A new record was set for the most time spent in space by a human being. Russian cosmonaut, Gennady Padalka, has spent a total of 803 days in space. Padalka is currently on his fifth trip into space and once he returns, on September 11, he will have spent 877 days in space.

During his time in outer space, he conducted experiments and went on numerous space walks. His days spent in space were not consecutive but envision what you could do in solitude for two years and four months, uninterrupted. Here are three things you could accomplish if you were in space for 803 days:

1. Practice Eccentric Skills

You will have so much free time to practice cool things you wouldn’t be able to do with the force of gravity surrounding you. You can become a Mortal Kombat character and work on your bicycle kicks. You can move on from your kiddie cartwheels and progress to full on back flips. And if you are one of those disgusting people that want to try to catching their spit in their mouth, you can do that too. But I don’t recommend it.

2. Catch Up On Your Reading

I don’t know about you, but I love reading. I’ve spent entire weekends doing nothing but drowning myself in a good book. Recently, I’ve been too busy to sit and read, or do anything fun, so I would jump at the chance to catch up on my favorite romance novel. You could teach yourself a new language and come back to earth more intelligent than you left. If I were in space for 803 days, reading would definitely be at the top of my list.

3. Self-Reflection

Being alone in space takes peace and quiet to a whole different level, I would suspect. The time you have secluded, without distractions can be used for self-reflection. You can learn new things about yourself and appreciate the characteristics you considered flaws. A lot of people don’t get the chance to reflect but with your time in space, you have a ton of chances.

In reality, you may never get the chance for complete isolation but you should definitely take a step back from the world. Continue to develop your skills and learn something new everyday. And when you think you’ve run out of things to learn, just think, what could I accomplish if I were in space for 803 days?

Michael Najjar, a professional photographer, plans on becoming the first civilian artist in space. Since 2012, Najjar has been training, in hopes of flying on Virgin Galatic’s maiden voyage later this year. During his space astronaut training, Najjar is documenting every moment. Even though he experienced temporary loss of color vision and almost blacked out during a stratospheric flight at twice the speed of sound, he was not deterred from his goal. If anything, he learned from the experience. He learned that it is difficult to control your movements, let alone focus the camera for a decent picture. If Najjar makes it to space, the event will open up more opportunities for other civilians to travel to space for career development. Here are three careers that would be awesome to see in space:

1. Dancer

Can you picture the Nutcracker being performed in space? Or imagine Step Up (the first one, not the ridiculous sequels) taking place in space. Cool right? It would be hard for the dancers to get used to the lack of gravity and there is also a strong possibility that the dancers my vomit on the first go around. But I think they could make it work. It would give the performance a different aesthetic. This career would be awesome to see in space because it would definitely break down barriers in the art world and open up minds to more possibilities.

2. Football Player

I know football fans are really hardcore and don’t like sudden changes in their team or their sport, but football in space would be hilarious. Big guys trying really hard to run faster and throw further, when gravity is working against them. I’m sure that eventually they would have to change the rules and the players would become accustomed to the changes in the environment, but I think football would be great to see in space for pure shits and giggles.

3. Porn Star

Funding is already in progress for Pornhub to film the first porn in space. If this occurs, it will open up doors for porn stars to explore more bizarre places to shoot scenes. And I have to admit, porn in space would be interesting to watch. You know you would want to see it too. We’ll just agree that it’s for academic purposes only. Wink, wink.

I hope Najjar accomplishes his goal, but not just for his benefit, but for the benefit of society. Us, as humans, thrive on knowledge and discovery. People will realize that they can truly accomplish anything they put their minds to. Who knows what would be next after Najjar becomes the first civilian artist in space. Our planet is the most amazing miracle. Not even just ours, but planets in general. Space has always interested me. You might have seen my blog on the most interesting Black Holes recently, so you know all about my youth as a space nerd. If you don’t, check it out. Black holes are insane. Anyway, so I was a space nerd and I know I’m not the only one either. Ancient Aliens on the History Channel is doing quite well in their ratings.

One of my favorite family trips was to the McDonald Observatory in Fort Davis, Texas. They would have special viewings and events and such, and one year when we went, I got to see Saturn. I have to tell you that from what I saw in that telescope, Saturn is just amazing. It’s so beautiful! While I don’t think any other planet compares to Earth when talking about beauty, (who can forget about the amazing sunsets we see and places like the Grand Canyon or the beaches of Greece?) Saturn came close. But what I’ve learned about Saturn’s moon, Titan might make it my second favorite rock.

Saturn’s Moon, Titan, Has More Earth Like Similarities

Scientists previously made a huge discovery that some of you, like myself, might’ve missed. Apparently, Saturn’s moon, Titan was found to have actual liquid on its surface. It houses a sea made of liquid methane. Not an ideal location to start planting your farm or anything, but it’s a pretty awesome discovery. Now, scientists are thinking that Titan might actually have an internal ocean made of water and ammonia. Massive movement of surface structures suggested that they had been resting on liquid. This theory hasn’t yet been fully proven, but they’re confident that it’s there and making changes to the surface of the moon.

Mars or Titan: Where will you build your new home?

Recent research suggested that Mars at one point might have had living organisms on it. Signs of water have been found and according to NASA, Mars might’ve had as much water as Earth’s Arctic Ocean. These new discoveries show not only an amazing advancement in our technology, but in our knowledge of the solar system we are a part of.

I think I’ll stay on Earth a bit longer, I kind of like it here. But won’t it be cool when we eventually see not only flights to Mars, but to Titan too. Would you take the opportunity to live on another planet?

Although found with other artifacts such as swords and axes, the Nebra Sky Disc stood out as evidence of science and art. It is also the earliest illustration of space. The disc tells the story of how people were amazed by the stars, the moon, and the sun.

Mapping out the universe was our ancestors’ way of seeking meaning in the lives they lived. The Nebra Sky Disc is a great example of how even in early times, outer space was a place to seek answers. Since then, people have used outer space for a variety of reasons. Here are the things we look for when we look up at the sky and beyond:

1. A Confidant

It doesn’t just happen in movies, people look up at the sky and confess some of their darkest secrets. They make wishes for selfish reasons or for the betterment of others. Religious people from all around the world talk to their god and hope that their prayers will be answered.

I’m not sure if it’s because no one is there to disagree or shame their opinions but people have found sanity from talking to the open space.

2. Knowledge and Resources

As long as we have more to discover, there will be more people who want to discover it. Astronomers are working hard at finding out what is really going on in outer space. They go further than just looking up at the sky. Astronomers break down barriers.

Outer space can provide us with more knowledge for medical advancements or provide us with renewable resources for sustainability. Who knows what more deep space has to offer?

3. Freedom to Imagine

The fact that there is so much we don’t know about outer space allows us to be creative and use our imaginations. Writers dream up different technological developments that may be found further in the galaxy. Television producers and make-up artists show us what they think alien species look like. We are free to release our minds when we look up at the sky. We are able to form our own opinions about the universe.

No matter how much we learn about space, we will continually seek it for answers. Although it doesn’t talk back, it gives us a chance to think by embracing its silence. We will always want it to give us answers to our problems. We will use it to satisfy our creative itch and easily step outside the box. We will look into the sky for a sense of clarity.
