Blackberry might have released their last smartphone ever, the Blackberry Priv. However, there’s a solid chance it could surprise all of us and beat the Apple iPhone in sales. The Candian company has declared an 119% rise in revenue over the last quarter in the software and service segment.

Blackberry Also Reported Losses of $89 Million

Things haven’t been easy for Blackberry since Samsung and Apple monopolized the Western smartphone market. The company is taking up a comeback strategy. While their losses show some merit, there’s a lot of work to do.

Blackberry generated a total revenue of $548 million, which is an increase from the $490 million reported in the previous quarter. This quarter makes the firs tin the whole year were there higher software revenue offsetting a fall in monthly service fees from older Blackberry smartphones.

Buying Good Technology Turned Out to Be A Huge Plus

Analysts predict that this revenue rise comes partly from Blackberry’s acquisition of Good Technology. Both companies used to be rivals, and their main focus was making software systems that would allow enterprises and governments to manage data from employee phones and tablets.

Blackberry CEO John Chen did not specify how much of the company’s revenue increase came from the Good Technology acquisition. He did declare that Blackberry software licenses rose 43%, rounding up to $154 million in total.

Blackberry Hardware is Still Struggling

In terms f hardware, which is what made the company notorious in the first place, is still in the pits. Blackberry did not submit any early sales estimates for the Blackberry Priv. This is the first phone to feature Google’s Android OS, which will hopefully help the company overcome their tallest hurdle: the lack of popular apps.

Can the Blackberry Priv Save this Company?

The Priv went on sale just last month, with all three major Canadian carriers offering it and AT&T offering it in the US. Analysts have predicted that this is most likely the last phone the company will make, but Chen declared that this phone might help the company break even and may even turn some profit. The company has declared that they will be keeping options open to remain in the smartphone market.

The Company’s Phones are Losing International Fame

Half of the company’s revenue came from North American sales while it only accounted for 29.6% last year. This goes to show that Blackberry is losing international power in the wireless industry. Sales in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa have fallen to $194 million. This is about half of what they reported at the same time in 2014.

These losses have cost Blackberry a lot of jobs, and a lot of profit. Blackberry has spent $100 million on research and development. Most of this went to research on applying Android to the Blackberry platform.

What’s in Store for Blackberry in the Future?

The sales for the Priv haven’t yet been reported. They might bring us a surprise. It’s been a while since the release of Apple’s latest iPhone. HALO REACH AND FABLE 3 NOW BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE

One for sure thing we know is the fact that these two games can now be played on the Xbox One. Microsoft is continuing their monthly additions of Xbox 360 games becoming playable on the Xbox One. This month was headlined by Halo Reach and Fable 3. Both of these games were met with a positive reception on the Xbox 360. However, Halo Reach received critical acclaim from audiences. Now, these two classic games can be played on the Xbox One!

GTA: LIBERTY CITY STORIES NOW FOR IPHONE

The other thing that we know for sure is GTA: Liberty City Stories is now available for the iPhone. Rockstar noted that this game will be largely identical to the original game released in 2005. However, with updated visuals, new touch screen support, and shorter missions the game can be expected to still be different. The game itself is basically a spin-off of Grand Theft Auto III. However, it added gameplay elements and implemented a new story.

THE ORGINAL GTA: LIBERTY CITY STORIES RECEPTION

When GTA: Liberty City Stories was first released back in 2005, it was received with strong feedback. Many popular reviewing domains gave the game a nine out of ten and better. Many different versions were available as well. The PlayStation Portable version was the first to see the game and received the strongest reception. However, many did state that the later published version for the PS2 lacked improvement on the original. It also removed some elements from the PSP version, which was not received well.

HALO REACH AND FABLE 3 MAY DO THE SAME

Let me be clear for a second, there is no official announcement of these two games doing this. However, many GTA games have gone mobile so why can it not be expected that Halo Reach and Fable 3 will? Also, with those two games becoming compatible with the Xbox One, who’s to say they won’t eventually be compatible with the iPhone? Due to its popularity, these two games could follow in the footsteps of GTA.

OTHER NOTABLE XBOX ONE COMPATIBLE GAMES BESIDES HALO REACH AND FABLE 3

Microsoft has announced other games besides Halo Reach and Fable 3 to be compatible with the Xbox One as well. Some of the most notable games are Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Ms. Pac-Man, Zuma’s Revenge, Iron Brigade, and Hydro Thunder. A total of sixteen games were announced by the company. More games can be expected to be announced by Microsoft next month.

Rumors Say the Phone Will Come with Wireless Charging

The first few buzzes call for wireless charging on the new iPhone 7. Much like Samsung, Apple is expected to release a charging dock for their phones to optimize charging and eliminate the faults of cable charging. It’s likely that the charger will be universal to only Apple devices.

There’s also word that it will feature multi-touch 3D touch. 3D touch is freshly introduced in the iPhone 6S, but it will be advanced so that users can set certain commands to return to the home screen or go backwards on a page. One of the most remarkable rumors is that the iPhone 7 will feature fingerprint recognition directly from the display. Apple already has registered patents for it, and will make the home button obsolete. It’s likely that this isn’t rolled out in the iPhone 7, but it’s a definite possibility for future generations.

The iPhone 7 Could Feature Two Rear Cameras

Leaksters are predicting that the brand new iPhone will come with dual read cameras. This would make them able to use optical zoom. This is one of the more likely rumors. The next Samsung Galaxy is expected to come with a 20-megapixel camera, so it is likely that Apple is prepared to compete in that respect.

One of the more interesting rumors is that the phone will become the first to come with a reversible USB Type-C port. This would replace Apple’s Lightning connector and make it analogous with Macbooks. Having a more universal connection unit might be beneficial for Apple, as users will only need one charger for all devices.

Apple Could Also Bring in Split Screen Multitasking

Another big rumor says that the new iPhone will feature split-screen multitasking, which is already present in certain Android devices. This would make basic tasks a lot easier to handle. If the iPhone 7 features a screen similar to the iPhone 6S in size, this would optimize usage.

The Lightning cable is Apple’s charging cable. This cable is necessary for users to re-charge their iPhone or their iPad. The issue is is the cable does not have a long shelf life. A reviewer of this Lightning cable online pointed out that he had eight Apple devices in his house for his family. He said that not one of the charger cables lasted. Sometimes people can receive a faulty cable. That kind of stuff happens, but all eight cables is not a coincidence. Apple pleases their customers with the best of the best when it comes to smartphones so it is surprising to see them fail on something as simple as a charger cable.

There is no way to get around needing a charger cable. Yes, there are third-party Lightning cables that are compatible with Apple devices, but they are still needed none the less. Apple has their replacement charger cable listed as $19. Some people may look at $19 and think that it is not a big deal. However, paying nearly $20 for a simple charger cable seems to high. Some third party charger cables will probably be cheaper, but they will most likely be more brittle as well.

THE LIGHTNING CABLE NEEDS TO BE BETTER

Apple needs to make this cable better. For customers to have to re-purchase a charger cable every couple of months is ludicrous. This is especially considering that Apple is very respected and customers expect better. Apple needs to listen and fix this problem immediately.

The company also stated that the device will have a self-healing scratch coating. With the current era of touchscreen devices, scratches are basically unavoidable. The Kyocera is set to have a 5-inch waterproof screen, with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and a 720p resolution screen.

Kyocera has announced that this smartphone, the DIGNO Rafre KY V36, will be launching this month in Japan. Yes, companies in Japan certainly do some strange things, but Kyocera certainly has released a phone that might influence a future American released phone.

There is physically no way for people to not get their phones dirty. It is also very easy to drop your phone in water and making phones waterproof is essential. However, the company states that as long as all of the drive ports are covered on the phone that it will not be damaged by water.
