Rabbit Fever and Parrot Fever, Which is Worse? - http://clapway.com/2015/12/05/rabbit-fever-and-parrot-fever-worse-123/

Health officials have found an increase in two rare diseases called rabbit fever and parrot fever. Both diseases, carried by the animals they were named after, are spread through bacteria in the animals.

Rabbit Fever and Parrot Fever

Rabbit Fever and Parrot Fever: The Risks

There have been 235 cases of rabbit fever treated this year. 100 of them were in Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming, and one of them resulted in death. This is the highest count of rabbit fever found since 1984. The bacteria that causes this infection can be transmitted to ticks and deer flies from rabbits, and they can spread it to humans. Symptoms of this fever include sudden fevers, headaches, muscle pain, joint pain and general fatigue.

Parrot fever, on the other hand, is transmitted directly from the birds to humans. Any contact with feces or urine, even contact to the bird’s beak can transmit the bacteria, called Chlamydia psittaci. It also may be transmitted by other pet birds, but it is most commonly associated with parrots. People can also become infected through chickens, turkeys, pigeouns, cockatiels, parakeets and ducks. This specific infection is quite rare, but it resembles the flu or pneumonia. Its symptoms start 10 days after exposure and can give people fevers, chills, nausea and vomiting, muscle and joint pain, diarrhea, fatigue and a dry cough. Other signs include photosensitivity, chest pain and in some cases it can even cause swelling of internal organs. Both rabbit fever and parrot fever can be treated with antibiotics.

The Danger of Rabbit Fever

Some authorities are worried that rabbit fever can be used as a bioterrorism weapon, which is why there is always a lookout for this disease. The incidence of rabbit fever is still relatively low. Before 1940, there were over 2,000 cases of rabbit fever reported each year, so people must be conscious of rodents if the numbers are to stay down.

Some fruits - and yes, even veggies - will make you fat (cue the collective sigh of dieters around the world). #fruitsandveggies #healthylifestyle #weightloss - http://clapway.com/2015/09/24/fruits-and-veggies-fat123/

At one point or another, every dieter will hear the following advice, “Eat more fruits and veggies.” The suggestion is – for the most part – true. Produce is generally filled with nutrients that your body needs to thrive and as such, it should comprise a significant portion of a “healthy” diet. Weight loss, however, is slightly more complex. In fact, some fruits – and yes, even veggies – will make you fat (cue the collective sigh of dieters around the world).

WHY CAN’T I HAVE MY CAKE AND EAT IT TOO?

According to a study conducted by researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston, knowing which fruits and veggies to eat may help you lose weight over the long term. Conversely, chomping down on produce on the “no-no” list might have the opposite effect on your waistline.

The results were based on an analysis of data collected from long running studies that examined over 130,000 U.S. adults over roughly two decades. As part of the research, participants reported their weight every two years and filled out a survey every four, which asked them to track what foods they ate for a week. Here’s what they found:

  • For each additional serving of fruit that the participants ate weekly, they lost about half a pound. For each additional serving of vegetable, they lost about a quarter of a pound.

  • In regard to fruit, berries, apples and pears had the biggest impact on weight loss. Each serving of these fruits added over a four-year period was associated with 1lb. of weight loss.

  • In regard to vegetables, cauliflower and and soy-based products added over a four-year period were linked to roughly 2 lbs. of weight loss.

  • Starchy vegetables, by contrast, were linked to weight gain, most likely due to the spikes in blood sugar levels they cause, which can increase hunger. Each additional serving of corn over a four year period caused about 2lbs. of weight gain; each additional serving of peas caused about 1lb. of weight gain and each additional serving of potatoes (baked or broiled) cause of about 0.75 lbs. of weight gain.

Of course, there are other issues that could have affected the results of the study. External factors, such as smoking and physical activity levels, were taken into consideration by researchers. However, the study did not examine the association between those who ate healthier and their increased likelihood to engage in more healthy lifestyle behaviors in general.

Coca-Cola Want People To Ditch The Diet And Keep Drinking Coke - http://clapway.com/2015/08/10/coca-cola-want-people-to-ditch-the-diet-and-keep-drinking-coke123/

According to reports recently released by The New York Times, Coca-Cola has been funding a non-profit group to encourage Americans to pay more attention to their exercise regime and less towards their diet.

It is well known that obesity has become an extremely worrying health concern in the United States and many western countries over the past years. This is something that has been discussed numerous times in the media and as a result, consumers have become more health conscious and aware of the dangers of fast food.

However, even though many studies have shown the negative outcomes as a result of consuming fizzy drinks such as Coca-Cola, health experts hired by the company have been researching the benefits of the product and have recently released new information promoting the positive aspects of the drink.

Coke Less Dangerous than Believed?

In accordance with The New York Times, Coca-Cola have been spreading the message that the popular fizzy drink is not as dangerous as previously believed. This has been further promoted by scientists hired by the company through social media, at conferences and in medical journals.

Records show that $1.5 million was donated last year by Coca-Cola to begin an organization – the Global Energy Balance Network. However, health experts are skeptical towards the companies motives behind this campaign, especially as soda sales are currently in a decline.

Americans Consume Less Sugary Drinks

It seems that over the last two decades, the average American has reduced his consumption of full-calorie sodas quite considerably, drinking 25 percent less.

Therefore, the fact that Coca-Cola have recently hired a new group of scientists to convince people that exercise can make up for an unhealthy diet has caused a lot of suspicion towards Global Energy Balance Network.

Is the Coca-Cola Company Trying to Manipulate People?

Of course, this is not the first attempt the company has made to try and associate their product with a healthy lifestyle. According to reports, at the beginning of the year, nutrition, as well as fitness experts stated that a mini-can of Coca-Cola was believed to be a ‘healthy treat’.

While a can of Coca-Cola once in a while will do you no harm, it is definitely worth taking into consideration all aspects of a healthy lifestyle and what is right for your body on a daily basis, rather than simply going by reports from international companies.

There is #hope for #America yet. - http://clapway.com/2015/07/27/americans-are-eating-healthier-234/

The diets followed by people who live in the United States have been discussed on many occasions. The fact that the rate of obesity had been increasing was an issue of full awareness. What is new is that Americans’ eating habits began to change, and this time they are not worsening.

The fact that the consumed calorie percentage has dropped might appear unexpected, and, unfortunately, this doesn’t change the obesity rates at this moment. However, the news that Americans are now eating healthier foods and drinking less sugary beverages is extremely promising. Furthermore, this is the first time the calorie consumption has a significant decline in 40 years since the government began tracking the food consumption.

Obesity Rates have Stopped Rising with Healthier Eating

As stated above, obesity is still an enormous problem in the US since over a third of America’s population is obese. However, the proportion has stabilized. It seems that when it comes to adults and children who are already going to school, the rates of obesity are not rising anymore. Furthermore, when talking about younger children the rates have also dropped. Both African Americans and European Americans stopped eating as many calories as they used to. But the change varies from one group to another.

Significant Fall in the Level of Sugary Sodas

The impact sugary sodas have on our bodies is known by everybody. But this didn’t stop people from consuming large quantities of sugary beverages. In accordance with the report, the average American has cut down on soda consumption by 25 percent in the last 25 years.

Americans Still Don’t Eat Healthy Enough

According to the study, it seems that both lower income families, as well as families with high income, have been cutting down on calories lately. While this is fantastic news, doctors say that there is still a lot more to carry out.

The fact that Americans don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables, and still eat junk food instead, remains a problem since unhealthy eating and manner of living can actually be the cause an impressive number of diseases, like diabetes or cancer. However, the fact that the consumption of calories has a much lower rate shows that healthier eating and lifestyle in the US will be improved over the next years.

Lifestyle Changes Might Help You Avoid Alzheimer"s - http://clapway.com/2015/07/24/lifestyle-changes-might-help-you-avoid-alzheimers436/

According to the researchers who are responsible for the latest Alzheimer’s study, people should take into consideration changing their lifestyles in order to protect their brains.

Scientists are working hard to find a drug that could at least delay Alzheimer’s disease, but this could take years. The fact that there are so many people at risk at this moment is frightening. This is the reason people are advised to try to improve their manner of living.

According to the researchers, there are plenty of options that can help people live healthier and avoid not only Alzheimer’s disease, but also many other problems that appear due to an unhealthy lifestyle.

The recommendation specialists give to people were presented at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference and were based on years of research.

A Better Sleep Might Prevent Alzheimer’s

It has been demonstrated that poor sleep quality might lead to memory problems, and this raises the risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease.

According to the doctors, trying to have a better sleeping program is an important step in changing your daily unhealthy habits. Also, people who suffer from insomnia are strongly advised to see a specialist who can help them with this problem.

The Brain Needs Exercise

Not only seniors are advised to keep their brain engaged. Learning has a great effect on our brains, and it might delay the problems that we risk when leading an unhealthy life.

Stress Is worse than You Thought

Stress is not only bad for your heart, but also for your brain. Of course, we cannot hide from it, even though this would be a great idea. However, we could learn how to cope with the stressful events we encounter during our life in order not to let them affect our brain cells.

A Healthy Diet is What We All Need

Trying to prevent Alzheimer’s disease is definitely not the only reason to have a healthy diet.

Fruits and veggies, as well as products low in sugar and fat, are advisable, because they keep you healthy in general.

Move Your Body!

All people should be paying attention to their bodies, not only to their brains. The lack of physical activity is strongly connected to a large number of diseases that increase the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia. So, in order to avoid not only Alzheimer’s disease, but high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol, you should try to exercise as much and as often as you can.

Lack of Exercise and Prolonged Sitting Raises Cancer Risk in Women - http://clapway.com/2015/07/18/lack-of-exercise-and-prolonged-sitting-raises-cancer-risk-in-women245/

A recent study from Johns Hopkins found that breast cancer survivors are gaining more weight than women who are free of cancer. These findings are relevant because prior studies suggest that breast cancer survivors who gain weight are at a higher risk for a reoccurrence of cancer.

BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS GAIN WEIGHT AT HIGHER Rate THAN THOSE WITHOUT CANCER

New research has shown that breast cancer survivors gain weight at a higher risk than those that have never had cancer before. These women who the study was done on were primarily those who were in chemotherapy or had the estrogen negative disease. Chemotherapy can increase insulin resistance and can also increase inflammation, and disrupt the metabolism which leads to weight gain. Another study showed that women that were treated with chemotherapy were 2.1 times more likely than cancer-free women to gain at least eleven pounds during a follow up appointment. Those women who are breast cancer survivors and gain weight, are at a higher rate for cancer recurrence.

STUDY SHOWS THAT ONLY 4 HOURS OF EXERCISE A WEEK CAN IMPROVE HEALTH

Weight is not only an issue with breast cancer, but with other health issues and diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease. In addition to exercise being a part of a healthy lifestyle, it can also lower the risk of breast cancer. Research from the Alberta Health Services have pinpointed that excess weight and fat can play a major role in developing breast cancer. One study has also showed that women who participate in at least 4 hours of physical activity each week show significant weight loss, especially from the adipose fat stores, and improved health.

SITTING FOR A LONG TIME CAN ALSO INCREASE RISK

Sitting for prolonged periods of time has also been connected with several health risks. Now tit has most recently been connected with the lack of activity to increase the risk of cancer in women. In a study that was published in the Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention journal, researchers showed that spending a lot of time sitting can increase the overall risk for cancer in women. This is especially stressed in breast and ovarian cancers, and multiple myeloma. This is all after factoring physical activity levels, BMI’s and other factors such as family history.

How Can Higher Education Save Your Life? - http://clapway.com/2015/07/09/how-can-higher-education-save-your-life876/

Low levels of education are quite common in the United States, as well as all over the world. More than 10 percent of the adults between the ages of 25 and 34 who live in U.S do not have a high school degree, and this appears to be influencing their rate of mortality.

An initiative aiming to improve life in the United States was launched by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. Its goals are to increase the number of students who complete high school by the year 2020. According to the researchers, meeting these goals can have an enormous impact in increasing people’s survival rates.

Even if it might sound insane, researchers have determined that the lack of higher education can be deadly in certain situations. Yes, physical death can be linked to differences in education.

IS LACK OF higher EDUCATION DEADLY?

According to the team of researchers from the University of Colorado, New York University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who analyzed information on populations from 1925 through 2010, education can influence death rates to a staggering degree – to over one million people between the ages of 25 and 85, the lack of education is as dangerous as smoking cigarettes.

The study was published in the journal PLOS ONE and it also informs us that about 110,000 deaths could have been prevented in 2010 if adults had completed their bachelor’s degree.

WHY CAN PEOPLE WITH HIGHER EDUCATION LIVE longer lives?

People who go to high school and a university may live longer for many reasons. The only reason isn’t that they can have higher income. Their lifestyles are generally healthier, and so is their psychological well-being.

Of course, there is no definitive proof between death and education, but the higher risk of death for less educated people is undeniable. Because of their unawareness, uneducated people are more likely to suffer from a diversity of diseases and their risk of a heart problem is quite higher than expected.

The conclusion researchers offered is supporting the notion that if people who didn’t complete their higher education studies went back to school and got their diplomas, we might save an impressive number of lives.
