Prince Charles: Climate Change is A Huge Issue

The Prince, a former member of the Royal Nave and Air Force, declared that 20 years ago, people weren’t fighting for natural resources or facing drought. Now, the threat of climate change is all too real, and people have to move.

Conservatives and Republican commentators in the US have mocked these kinds of statements, calling them unreasonable, uncomfortable, and brazenly foolish. The truth is, there is a definite connection between political instability, terrorism and war and climate change, and many militaries and political officials in the United States have asserted it.

Sanders, O’Malley, and Prince Charles: Terrorism is Caused by Climate Change

The heir to the British throne made this statement in an interview with Sky News, before the November 13 Paris attacks. He’s not alone, as O’Malley revealed that he firmly believes that the war in Syria and the threat of ISIS comes from extreme conditions brought on by climate change that are forcing these people to move and incur terror where they want to conquer. Bernie Sanders himself asserted that terrorism and climate change are linked directly and that ignoring the planet any longer will bring nothing but ruin.

The Point is Something Needs to Change

Climate change is making entire nations desperate. What these political figures mean to say is that if we don’t do something now, our planet will pay us tenfold for the damage that has been done to it, and this can manifest in more ways than one.

As the US, a world leader goes through a change of hands in government, we may start to see some change. We can only hope that world leaders start to move in the right direction.

According to reports recently released by The New York Times, Coca-Cola has been funding a non-profit group to encourage Americans to pay more attention to their exercise regime and less towards their diet.

It is well known that obesity has become an extremely worrying health concern in the United States and many western countries over the past years. This is something that has been discussed numerous times in the media and as a result, consumers have become more health conscious and aware of the dangers of fast food.

However, even though many studies have shown the negative outcomes as a result of consuming fizzy drinks such as Coca-Cola, health experts hired by the company have been researching the benefits of the product and have recently released new information promoting the positive aspects of the drink.

Coke Less Dangerous than Believed?

In accordance with The New York Times, Coca-Cola have been spreading the message that the popular fizzy drink is not as dangerous as previously believed. This has been further promoted by scientists hired by the company through social media, at conferences and in medical journals.

Records show that $1.5 million was donated last year by Coca-Cola to begin an organization – the Global Energy Balance Network. However, health experts are skeptical towards the companies motives behind this campaign, especially as soda sales are currently in a decline.

Americans Consume Less Sugary Drinks

It seems that over the last two decades, the average American has reduced his consumption of full-calorie sodas quite considerably, drinking 25 percent less.

Therefore, the fact that Coca-Cola have recently hired a new group of scientists to convince people that exercise can make up for an unhealthy diet has caused a lot of suspicion towards Global Energy Balance Network.

Is the Coca-Cola Company Trying to Manipulate People?

Of course, this is not the first attempt the company has made to try and associate their product with a healthy lifestyle. According to reports, at the beginning of the year, nutrition, as well as fitness experts stated that a mini-can of Coca-Cola was believed to be a ‘healthy treat’.

The deep sea is a relatively unknown world filled with wonders and jaw-dropping discoveries. This latest discovery in a recently discovered seafloor, fits that description entirely.

A “hot spring” was discovered along the seafloor of the Pacific Ocean, and scientists claim it is vastly different than the common hydrothermal vents. Dave Clague a Marine geologist at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) in California verifies that this “hot spring” is different in more than one way.

WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE

The chimneys of the newly-named Pescadero Basin vents have spirals that appear to be white as now, but they are formed from calcium carbonate or limestone. The water surrounding these “chimneys” are 500 degrees Fahrenheit (about 260 degrees Celsius). They are “laden with methane and petroleum-type products that give off a whiff of diesel fuel,” said National Geographic.

WHERE IT IS PESCADERO BASIN LOCATED

The location is another strange feature about these vents. They lie 100 miles off the coast of eastern Mexico, near La Paz. The Pescadero Basin vents are 12,5000 feet below the surface of the ocean and deep into the seafloor. This makes them the deepest high-temperature vents known to reside in the Pacific Ocean.

Furthermore, the area surrounding the vents is comprised of mud made up of the ocean floor. This is a surprising factor because most vents have no sediment, and they are further off the coast with no land on the nearby seafloor.

ANY ANIMALS?

The species surrounding the Pescadero Basin vents are another element of surprise for scientists. The common tubeworms, called Riftias are scarce around the Pescadero Basin vents. “In fact,” Clague said, “the animal community inhabiting the new vent field seems to be a mix of things found around hydrothermal vents and cold seeps.”

MBARI biologist are currently researching and studying the seafloor around the Pescadero Basin vents. They are also studying the vents themselves, but the research will take years to complete. For a basin this large things can get expensive, and with such an expansive amount of space, there are constantly new species and areas to discover.

In the past finding these vents have proved very difficult, but in the case of the Pescadero Basin vents, technology has proven a reliable and timely tool. Scientists, like Clague, are hoping that they will be able to research and find more vents than ever before, and the Pescadero Basin vents are the very first step!
