Leaksters have reported that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 will have a few iPhone 6S inspired features, including 3D Touch and Live Photos. This goes on top of the reports claiming that that the phone will also include something similar to the iPhone 6/6s’s ‘Peek and Pop’ and ‘Quick Action’.

Samsung Takes A Page Out of their Apple Handbook Again

The South Korean giant has been under fire for being ‘inspired’ by Apple many times, and it looks like their latest smartphone will be no exception. The latest iPhone 6S features Live Photos. When a Live Photo is taken, it records 1.5 seconds of video before and after the actual snapshot, and it can be brought to life by pressing anywhere on the screen while the photo is displayed. These makeshift Apple GIFs can be viewed on other Apple devices and can be set as wallpapers.

Samsung is apparently bringing in a similar feature to the new Galaxy series. This may not be ready by the time the Samsung Galaxy S7 is released, but will definitely be featured in a future update or a later Samsung smartphone. Their version of Live Photos will not capture sound like Live Photos does. However, they will be uploadable to Facebook.  Samsung brought in a feature similar to Live Photos back when the Galaxy S4 came out. The feature was called ‘Sound and Shot’. This would come as an upgrade, though without sound.

New Galaxy Comes Packed With New Features

The new Galaxy S7 series is expected to be unveiled at the Unpacked event on February 21. Some of its unconfirmed features include a better processor, a microSD slot, a new Type-C USB slot, 4GB of RAM. It will also have a 12-megapixel camera at the back with a BRITECELL sensor, and a 5-megapixel front camera. It’s expected to come in two different sizes, 5.1″ and 5.5″, and will be waterproof.

At the end of the day, Samsung brings a lot of innovation to many markets. Whether or not it takes a few pages out of the iPhone construction manual is only to compete. Hopefully, they don’t get slammed with lawsuits for this!

WHAT EXACTLY IS PROJECT ARA?

The whole idea to Project Ara is allowing users to build their own phone. This means that all of the nitpicks and complaints that users have for phones would go away. Any problem that a user has they can fix themselves. Google is going to provide the base of the phone and then the users can install the custom components that they want to. Let’s say that a user does not like their screen, or it breaks, they can just buy a new one and install it on the phone. The same thing can be done with a camera, the speakers, the internal storage, etc. Motorola has said that they are going to be combining with Google to provide most of the hardware components.

WHY iPHONE AND ZENFONE SHOULD JOIN THE PROJECT

Both of these companies could provide Google with some of their best features. Asus could allow Project Ara to include their ZenFone Zoom. Asus is advertising their camera as being able to outshine any camera on the market. If Asus is true to their statement, then this ZenFone Zoom would make an unbelievable feature to the Project Ara. Now there is Apple. They are one of the big dogs when it comes to smartphones and having their features to build the ultimate smartphone would only help even more.

This is a smartphone that the world is dying to see. If all of these companies can bury the hatchet for one project, then the world might receive the greatest phone of all-time. The 2013 romantic comedy, Her, depicts an alternative universe, in which humans and their personified computers live together in a surrealistic, yet harmonious world. The main character, Theodore Twombly, inadvertently develops a relationship with his operating system, Samantha, which “speaks” with an incredibly convincing human voice.

Though we don’t have the same technology currently, Siri, iOS’s intelligent personal assistant, is probably the closest thing to Samantha. The “knowledge navigator,” as it (she?) is referred to as by Wikipedia, can help you with a variety of tasks – from making phone calls to finding a directions to a location. She even engages in a little bit of witty banter. Now, Siri – as part of Apple’s iOS 9.1 operating system – has become even more advanced, thanks to her new voice recognition feature.

HEY SIRI…?

Along with many other updates, the iPhone 6S features an “always-on” version of Siri, making it easier for users to utilize the program. Now, instead of having to open the functionality by pressing a button on your smart phone, all you need to do is say “Hey Siri” out loud to get her attention.

Unsurprisingly, critics have already raised some serious questions regarding the practicality of Hey Siri. For instance, if Siri is always on, what would happen if a user is in a crowded restaurant? Wouldn’t surrounding voices confuse the heck out of her? Another big issue, as TechCrunch notes, deals with security and privacy. Again, if Siri is “always-on,” is she also listening and recording what users are saying throughout the day?

Luckily, Apple has thought about nearly everything. In regards to privacy, Apple told TechCrunch, “In no case is the device recording what the user says or sending that information to Apple before the feature is triggered.” Plus, Siri is not turned on by default; users need to manually toggle her on in the settings.

Furthermore, Siri will only perform actions issued through a familiar voice, according to Invest Correctly. In this way, Apple hopes to eliminate any potential confusion that can occur when utilizing voice commands. To prepare the program for this challenge, Siri will need to learn your voice through a short training process. According to PC Mag, users will have to answer a few questions and repeat common phrases like “Hey Siri, what’s the weather today?”, which will help the program eventually learn and master your unique voice.

Apple has officially confirmed that the next event to unveil the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will officially kick off at 10 a.m. PT on Sept. 9. Here is what to expect.

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus

The two obvious announcements will be the next generation of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. With these two devices will come the regular slew of upgrades: a faster processing chip (the A9), expanded RAM, and an upgraded camera. Speculation around other new features includes a different type of aluminum frame, and a display that integrates Force Touch technology–a feature already included in the Apple Watch and newer MacBooks.

Apple Insider reported earlier today that the entry level phone will still only include 16GB of on-board memory. This was a huge criticism of the original iPhone 6 since the mid-tier and top-tier memory options had their on-board storage size double in size, but the 16GB didn’t get the same boost.

New Software and Other Rumors

The next version of iOS (iOS 9) will undoubtedly be talked about in greater depth since it will release alongside the new iPhones. According to Apple, iOS9 will support features that make your apps become an even more essential part of your life. Improvements to Siri will have new commands, and take a more proactive approach in your life. The update will also bring newer multitasking features on iPad, and improve a number of smaller things like performance, security, battery life, and more.

Speculation throws some other exciting products into the mix. We may get to see a new iPad, including the larger iPad Pro. And we recently reported that Apple may be showing off a long-awaited Apple TV product that has deeper integration with the rest of Apple’s ecosystem.

What Apple Needs to Succeed

There are a few areas that we’d like to see Apple really bring their A game for. First off is battery life. This is an issue that plagues many smartphone users, but while it may not be isolated to just iPhones, Apple touts itself as a product leader. Being one of the first smartphones to offer longer lasting batteries would do wonders for the brand. It’s time to ditch the reliance of fast-charging Lightning cables, and work on battery tech that actually lasts.

Second up is Siri. Google Now has been making strides on providing all kinds of contextual data while also making the device incredibly easy to manipulate with voice controls. Siri is novel in that it’s fun to talk to, but its voice recognition isn’t on par with Android’s, and there are many system functions that Siri still struggles with.

Lastly, for maybe the first time ever, the iPhone has been dethroned as the industry leader in smartphone camera technology. Both Samsung and LG offered mind-blowing cameras in their latest flagship devices. For Apple to remain relevant, they really need to pull out all the stops.

The unreleased iPad Pro has many Apple fans excited. According to ValueWalk, leaks indicate that its 305.3 x 220.8 x 7mm dimensions make the device larger than the regular iPad and is rumored to be geared towards businesses.

iPad Pro Has Force Touch Technology

Like the most recent MacBooks and the Apple Watch, the iPad Pro is equipped with Force Touch Technology that enable it to use multiple apps on a single surface. And importantly, the apps can run simultaneously, which would benefit those using the device for businesses who need to multitask. KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, has called the iPad Pro’s Force Touch “an evolution, rather than revolution.”

iPad Pro May Have Stylus

Using the Force Touch, an iPad Pro user touches the device’s surface with a stylus pen created by the manufacturer, Cheng Uei, that is enabled for BlueTooth. The stylus will be offered separately from the device, the screen of which can obviously be interacted with by hand as with the other iPad models.

The iPad Pro’s use of a stylus is remarkable because Apple is a famously stylus-averse company, Rhiannon Williams of the Telegraph pointed out. In 2007, Steve Jobs said “Who wants a stylus? You have to get them and put them away, you lose them, yuck! Nobody wants a stylus”.

Kuo, who has been called the “best Apple analyst on the planet”, thinks that Apple is including a stylus because of patients for versions of the tool that the tech giant has filed with his own company.

iPad Pro Release Date

In September or October, large-scale manufacturing of the device will likely begin. And, according to Kuo, Apple will make the iPad Pro shipments available in time for holiday season. 5.5 million iPad Pros are predicted to sell before the end of the year. It’s also expected that the device will be released with the new Apple TV and iPhone 6S, the company’s latest in its series of phones.

iPad Pro Look

There is only one known photo of the iPad Pro, a picture of the device’s rear shell taken at a Chinese factory. The low-quality image was posted to the microblogging site Weibo and though its authenticity has not been confirmed by Apple, it looks like faint contours of the Apple logo are at the table’s middle.

In the latest set of leaks involving the Apple iPhone 6s, new images have appeared that seem to point towards the company using Force Touch its upcoming pair of handsets.

May the Force Be With You

Unfortunately, Apple’s newest Force Touch has less to do with the Star Wars universe and more to do with what the name implies in a literal sense. It’s a press-sensitive technology that Apple has created to help a device understand the difference between different variations of touch. The most obvious use of this new technology would allow new gesture features to be implemented based on soft and hard presses — similar to short and long presses. This isn’t exactly a new feature, however. Apple first unveiled the feature earlier this year when it unveiled the Apple Watch and the newest MacBooks.

Source of the Apple iPhone 6s Leak

The Apple iPhone 6s leak itself comes from a Chinese repair firm called Geekbar on Weibo, but it was spotted by Steven Hemmerstoffer of Nowhereelse.fr first. The sources seem to be pretty legitimate, and the accompanying photographs show of a lot of details that support the claims.

The shape of the LCD display is largely the same, but components of the display differ in some key ways, though there are still some unknown details.

According to an Apple Insider, there is a rectangular cutout in the upper center of the screen which houses a smaller component of the same shape. They believe this could be a grounding insert. On the backside of the display, the edges have rivets rather than screws that are keeping it in place. And there are some mysterious black dots that run along the edges of the display that aren’t found on the previous device.

Apple Ramps Up Production of Their New Force Touch Displays

Whether these rumors are to be believed is almost besides the point now. According to suppliers, Apple has already started to ramp up production of these new displays and it just makes sense that Apple would be bringing this technology to one of their best selling devices. What new features Apple will be introducing with the Apple iPhone 6s remains to be seen, but stay tuned for more details soon.

To, probably, no one’s surprise, Apple is set to announce a new Apple TV sometime in September 2015, alongside the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus announcement.

For the first time in ever, Apple will force the iPhone to Share a Stage

Apple’s September event has historically been dedicated strictly to announcing iPhone devices, but this year the company will be demonstrating how the newest iteration of Apple TV will interact with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

The idea is to bring Apple’s collection of Apple-TV centered HomeKit devices into focus. The company has been making a major push into smart home devices, but things have been slow to catch on.

Rumors placed the original announcement of the new Apple TV at this year’s WWDC 2015, a developer conference put on by Apple, but the event has come and gone without so much of a peep about the new devices.

What’s Happening With the New Apple TV

Outside of rumor and speculation, there isn’t really much known about the device. Apple has performed admirably in keeping a tightly run ship — at least so far.

According to some rumors, the device will feature a slimmer bodied chassis along with some new hardware upgrades. Supposedly the device will feature Apple’s new A8 SoC (system on chip), have increased storage, feature a “drastically” improved remote, an improved operating system, and Siri voice control.

Apple fans will also have a subscription based internet-TV service that Apple hopes to launch soon, though probably not in time for the announcement in September. In fact, one source says it may not launch until sometime in 2016.

What to Expect When Expecting

While an announcement for the new Apple TV is expected, it won’t be what the conference is focused on. Apple will be using this time to also make an announcement for the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, which will likely look identical to their predecessors, but sport faster processors and potentially better cameras. Demonstrations will also be made with the new set of iPhones and how they interact with Apple’s upcoming generation of smart devices.
