THIS UPDATE COMES A MONTH AFTER THE INITIAL RELEASE
When Google showcased its videos at 60 frames per second, they were very excited about this development. Only a little over a month later, after they launched the 60 frames per second 1080p full HD, and 720p HD live streaming, they are now offering this update to live video streaming, the YouTube app for Android and iOS devices. This is all in addition to being able to watch 60 frames per second video on the desktop.
These capabilities have been available for Android users as of last month, but there was never officially announced. They have also been available for YouTube for a while due to the increasing popularity of its platform.
MOST FILMS ARE IN 24 TO 48 FRAMES PER SECOND
Films with higher frame rates, also known as HFR, offers a large increase in the detail of the picture. To put it in perspective, there have only been a few films released to movie theatres in HFR. Movies such as The Hobbit are one of these films. The Hobbit, however, was one 48 frames per second. The 60 frames per second options are most popular among gamers who have already been using this technology for a while.
SUPPORTED THROUGH CHROME AND SAFARI
This live streaming is for the internet with the support of Google’s Chrome and Apple’s Safari browser. Now this update will allow for Android and iOS users to choose between 60fps, 720p, or 1080p without the app updating. This feature is only available for the official YouTube app, and not via the mobile browser. Any Windows phone users currently aren’t able to view videos and live streams at 60fps as those who use YouTube through third party applications.
Youtube 60fps playback ISN’T NEW FOR GAMERS
Those who play video games are already familiar with the 60fps game streaming videos on YouTube. This feature was added to the desktop over a year ago. The higher frame rates are desirable for smoother game play and avoiding stuttering that might cause frame rates to dip.
