Aging- The Bane of Everyone’s Existence
No one likes the thought of growing old, let alone what that would do to your body and all the complications that old age brings. But how is it that young people feel older than they are? Why are others in your age group looking older than you, while some younger?
New Research on the Aging of Young Adults recently published
A recent study that was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America sought to observe aging in young adults for the purpose of seeing how aging affects bodily functions in different ways in order to promote longer health spans, less health complications, and less of our money spent on healthcare. But, the study also sought to see if anti-aging therapy had any effect to lessen age-related health issues.
The team of researchers was from all over the world, contributing their expertise on the matter with some of individuals making comments in their own respective press releases, unique to their geographical locations.
The Reason for the Young Age Range
In a press release from Duke Today, Daniel Belsky said, “Most studies of aging look at seniors, but if we want to be able to prevent age-related disease, we’re going to have to start studying aging in young people.”
This is why the study focuses on people in the age range of young adults in their mid-twenties to late thirties. There, with young adults in reasonably good health conditions, researchers can see the effects of aging on organs, which are more sensitive to aging that their outer appearance is. Due to that sensitivity, signs of aging in young adults show up earlier.
The Results
In doing this study, the researchers came up with two ways to measure aging in young adults by measuring how their physiological conditions were inside. As mentioned previously, the organs are more susceptible to aging than people’s initial visible aging reactions, so this would be one of the ways to tell aging. By gauging how aging is affecting the body of young adults before they even reached middle age, health professionals can then decide on a course of treatment to revitalize them.
