Gospel of Jesus" Wife Research To Be Revealed - #Jesus #Christian #MaryMagdalene http://clapway.com/2015/08/25/gospel-of-jesus-wife213/

The debate about the credibility of the Gospel of Jesus’ Wife – a papyrus fragment containing the phrase “Jesus said to them, ‘My wife …’ ” – continues.

NEW COLUMBIA RESEARCH ABOUT Gospel of Jesus’ Wife

According to LiveScience, new research by Columbia University scholars have led to at least one finding that could be proof of its authenticity. What this particular finding is, or what scholars may discover as they run more test, will not be known until they publish everything in a peer-reviewed journal.

Tests at Columbia from last year asserted that the ink used in the papyrus could date back to the the era of early Christianity. However, others in both the academic and Christian community dispute its authenticity; some have called it a “clever forgery.” Many scholars, as well as prominent religious institutions like the Vatican, have claimed that fragment is fake.

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL OF JESUS’ WIFE?

The papyrus fragment first became known to the public by Harvard Divinity School professor Karen King, a historian of early Christianity, at Rome’s International Congress of Coptic Studies in September 2012. According to the New York Times, the Gospel of Jesus’ Wife fragment is tinier than a business card.

The text after the phrase “My wife” ends, but the piece of papyrus also refers to a woman named Mary. Those convinced of its authenticity have suggested that this woman is Mary Magdalene.

Dr. King has said that the papyrus dates back to the fourth century. And the scholar has never claimed that its authenticity means would mean that Jesus was married, just that some Christians believed that he did.

THE “GOSPEL OF JESUS’ WIFE” IN RECENT YEARS

The antiquity’s shady modern history makes it even more mysterious. According to Discovery News, the papyrus’ owner has remained anonymous, and claimed to have bought it from a man named Hans-Ulrich Laukamp.

Laukamp, according to the fragment’s current owner, bought it in Potsdam when the city belonged to the East German state. Laukamp has died since the alleged transaction, and the man in charge of his estate has told the press that Laukamp was living in West Berlin (an area then separated from Potsdam by the wall splitting the city) in 1963, the year the anonymous owner claims to have purchased it.
