The ideal chip size, according to DARPA, will be no bigger than one cubic centimeter. It is to be implanted on the human brain and convert electrochemical signals to binary code. OnDat.io has set its missions to help spot jihadists and alert authorities. They hope to be able to help educational institutions spot students most likely to join the Islamic State or ISIS. It’s also looking to help transportation and energy infrastructure companies find any jihadi empathizers in their staff.

This would be particularly beneficial government organizations and intelligence agencies in finding people who are likely to engage jihadist or terrorist activity. The software, launched December 15, created an algorithm that combs through internet browsing history to find ISIS propaganda at scale and in real-time.

OnData.io founder, Stefan Hunt, released a statement saying that the Islamic State has used many of the internet’s resources to spread their hateful beliefs. It has been successful so far. It is now time for the whole world to take action against them. This new software can create cybernetic challenges to these efforts. In an attempt to fight the ISIS, Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, unveiled ten new space satellites. However, NASA has a different reason for sending devices in space. They want to try and fight against global warming.

PUTIN UNVEILS PLAN FOR ISIS

Putin and the rest of Russia seem ready to put a stop to any unusual activity that the ISIS is doing. Moscow, Russia has set up ten brand new satellites in space directly over Syria. This was done in order to spot certain targets, map their terrain, and gather any other sort of useful information. One of the big things the Russia government wants to document is if Turkey is helping the ISIS. They wanted to get visual proof that Turkey was helping the ISIS export oil.

DETAILS ON THE SATELLITES THAT PUTIN AND RUSSIA ARE USING

The chief of the Russian military, Valery Gerasimov, talked a little about the type of satellites over Syria. He mentions how they are electronic and imagery satellites. A civilian-use spacecraft was also said to be being used. In order to focus the satellites on Syria, he said that they use controllers that they can use on the ground. Also, a Russian space program expert, Anatoly Zak, mentions that one of the ten satellites is the Persona. He states that the Persona is the most advanced satellite in the entire nation.

PUTIN AND RUSSIA CLAIM THEY HAVE PROOF ABOUT THE ISIS

As previously mentioned, these satellites were positioned above Syria and were trying to prove that Turkey is helping the ISIS. It appears like they may have done just that. Earlier this month, the Russian military released imagery provided by their satellites. This imagery showed that there were thousands of oil tanks provided by the ISIS that were headed to Turkey. However, the president of Turkey denied this and said he was ashamed at Russia.

NASA TRYING TO HELP AGAINST GLOBAL WARMING

NASA is also using satellites, but they are not using them in the same way as the Russian government. They are using them to try and help with the fight against global warming. NASA uses their satellites to orbit the planet and research about weather patterns. They also use them to collect general information about the environment. NASA did release a video a while back that was quite interesting. The video showed how around half of any carbon emitted is absorbed and does not affect global warming.

A spokesman for NASA recently was talking about global warming and had some intriguing facts to say. The spokesman mentions how carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere have become higher than any time in the past 400,000 years. He states that it continues to rise as well. However, he does say that only around half of this carbon emitted actually remains in the atmosphere. Although global warming is causing an increase of temperatures around the world, NASA talks about an exception. NASA released a detailed study in which they found temperatures are actually decreasing in Antarctica. They also say the ice down there has increased as well.

Donald Trump is surprisingly still in the race to become President of the United States of America. To many, his initial announcement may have sounded like a joke, and his campaign can definitely be considered a joke, but it sure as heck isn’t funny anymore.

Donald Trump has used this year to build a kind of cult of personality, where becoming a political clown has put him in the same breath as arguably better leaders like Barack Obama, Angela Merkel and Ronald Reagan.

Even the GOP itself has denounced Trump, though they’ve historically been considered to be the party that represents intolerance. After the candidate claimed that he wanted to implement a ban on all Muslims from entering the country until more information comes out on the status of ISIS and terrorism in the US, people are starting to turn their back on Trump.

It’s About Time the Prejudice Against Muslims and Mexicans End

The GOP has been quick to declare Donald Trump’s thinking unrelated to the Republican agenda, though it’s been clear from the start that Trump has only ever had his own agenda. The truth is, what Donald Trump is doing is using Republican fear to instill even more panic among the American population, especially the Caucasian community.

Historically, this is not new to the Republican Party. Ronald Regan was also interpreted to have used racism to get more votes, referring to African Americans like they were lazy and prone to crime. President George H. W. Bush did the same, using Caucasian fear of black crime to gain more popularity. Though the argument is sound to some, it’s never been effective, and it doesn’t not showcase the true reality of the world we live in.

Racial Bias Against Names Like ISIS and El Chapo Have Proven to Be Effective

Analysis on the nature of Republican politics can be connected to dog-whistling, using words that resonate within the most popular demographic in their voters against them. This is regardless of the fact that one of the Republican candidates running alongside Trump is Hispanic, and the other is African-American.

This isn’t tip-toeing around certain terms to be politically correct. Trump’s thinking is outright dangerous, closely reminiscent to the kind of political environment that surrounded Germany in 1933. White resentment against minorities has always been a great source for hate and intolerance, and the Republican party has always been good at using it to their own advantage.

By using terms like ISIS or El Chapo, people become afraid. ISIS is a cause for fear all over the world, as they pose a threat to peace as we know it. For the Republican party though, ISIS and Islam mean the same thing. This is quite far from the truth, but it’s not the only term that flies around with that kind of association. Discrimination of Mexicans go without saying, throwing around names like El Chapo and other similarly structured names to make it sound as if Mexican is equaled with drug lord, drug dealer or lazy bum.

Why isn’t The Republican Party Defending Trump?

The reason why the GOP isn’t jumping on Trump’s back now is really because it’s 2015. If this had happened ten years ago, things would be very different. However, because this year has been tremendously overloaded with mass shootings that are connected to all sorts of things, with police brutality, the public no longer trusts just anything people say.

People are becoming more informed, and there’s little chance that they can be fooled easily. More and more people are fact-checking, and as the youth is inspired to have a more active participation politically, the Republican party is no longer too keen on letting their representatives say just anything. And if even they are turning their back on Trump, it’s probably about time he leaves (or is kicked out) of the presidential race.

ISIS is sure not making many friends as of late. The Islamic militant group not only received a letter from El Chapo declaring war, but they were also trolled by Anonymous. It is apparent that both of them have a major beef with the ISIS.

ANONYMOUS TROLLS THE ISIS

For those who are unaware, Anonymous is an activist hacking group. The group posted a message online to ask everyone to troll the ISIS. This was coming after they declared cyber war on them less than a month ago. To troll someone means that you are allegedly trying to argue with them or you are just upsetting them for no reason. They asked anybody who would listen to purposely mock the Islamic militant group. This did indeed happen, as the people who decided to participate in the trolling used the hashtags #Daeshbags, #trollingday, and #isistrollingday. The first one is extremely derogatory, but that was the intent. The trolls swapped the ISIS heads with duck heads. I will let you figure that one out.

EL CHAPO BACKSTORY

Before I go into detail on what El Chapo did, his back story is necessary to know. El Chapo is one of the most wanted drug lords in the world right now. He was recently sent to prison for the second time, but he escaped again. Apparently, he was able to escape via a hole through the shower. His men were the ones who dug the tunnel that would lead him to his escape. This means that he is a wanted man on the run, and now he has declared war against the ISIS, or has he?

EL CHAPO DECLARES WAR ON THE ISIS, OR DOES HE?

El Chapo wrote a letter threatening the ISIS and he posted it online. His letter mentions that he is declaring war against them. His letter stated that one of their cartel’s shipments were destroyed by the ISIS. He also called out all of their soldiers in his letter. He called them by a name that I do not want to repeat. He made no bones about it in his letter that he did not respect them, and that his men would destroy and kill them. It was a very detailed and disturbing letter that was written from him. However, many people mention how this could be a hoax. Even if, though, El Chapo still has a beef with them for the cartel’s shipments being destroyed.

WHO SHOULD ISIS FEAR MORE: EL CHAPO OR ANONYMOUS?

Well let us see, one declared a war and the other declared a cyber war. Anonymous, the one’s who declared cyber war, were also the ones who trolled the group over the internet. Now, trolling is not necessarily going to physically harm anyone. However, cyber attacking is something that should not be messed with. However, the letter from El Chapo, if it turns out to be true, is actually declaring war and threatening their people. El Chapo and his gang might be the one’s to fear in this one, but he is a wanted man and could be back in jail soon.

WILL THE ISIS STRIKE BACK?

The question now beckons on whether or not the Islamic militant group will respond to both of these events. I believe that they will and that they will in a big way. The stuff that was said to them, and the disrespectful trolling, towards them should lead them to do so. Now, the ISIS is not a group that has led a good cult following. They are a terrorist group and they probably deserve all that they are getting. Nobody will feel sorry for them, but that does not mean they have no right to retaliate.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE ISIS, EL CHAPO, AND ANONYMOUS

This whole situation is just ugly. That is the best word for all of this. This is dealing with a famous drug lord, an activist hacking group, and an Islamic terrorist group. I really do not think that there is a good way here, but let’s be clear about something the ISIS are not friends of El Chapo and Anonymous. That we can be 100 percent sure of.

The Facebook CEO has declared that the social media is a platform for all communities, and as such, there is Facebook for Muslims support as well. This comes at a high time when Donald Trump is severely under fire for claiming he wanted to ban all Muslims from entering the US until terrorist threats are resolved.

Zuckerberg wrote that as leader of Facebook, he wants to tell all Muslims in the community that they are always welcome. Mark Zuckerberg also vowed to protect their rights and create a safe environment for the Muslim community. This was made in response to Donald Trump’s bold claims, but the CEO said that he had made the post in light of the Paris attacks and all the hate that had been pointed in the direction of the Muslim community this past week.

Zuckerberg confessed that he can only imagine the kind of suffering and segregation the Muslim community is suffering for the actions of those who do not represent them. Truly enough, the treatment Donald Trump is talking about to the press is analogous to the late 1930’s in Germany. As a Jewish American, Mark Zuckerberg stated he will defend any attack on any community, and as such, he declared that not only is Facebook for Muslims, but it is a platform for everyone.

Donald Trump has become a political buffoon dangerously quickly, even suggesting that the Internet be closed up in some way to fight terrorism. Certainly not a true believe in freedom of speech though he’s quite loose in his own. He continues to claim that ISIS is recruiting people over the internet, taking Muslims in America and then sending them back. Living with this logic must be truly difficult. Donald Trump makes it incredibly evident that having a lot of money doesn’t equal much in terms of brains.

US authorities are putting serious pressure on social media companies like Facebook and Twitter to do more than raise awareness and halt terrorist use of their services. Nearly all major social media outlets have been connected to the recruit and communication between terrorist groups, namely the one responsible for the shooting in San Bernardino, CA and the Paris attacks of November 13.

Senators in California are calling for a law that requires social media platforms to alert authorities of any suspicious activity on their websites or applications. This would have become part of an Intelligence Authorization Bill that has already been approved by the Senate Intelligence Committee. However, this bill was taken down because objections were holding up the underlying bill.

After the latest San Bernardino was linked to a couple that support ISIS and the spread of jihad, authorities are more and more nervous about how strong of a platform social media is. Extremist groups have better reach to the public now more than ever. Social media platforms make it all too easy for terrorists to spread their poisonous messages, and extremism has always been contagious. The line where the threat becomes real enough to alert authorities, though, isn’t too clear.

Should the Law Get Involved with Social Media?

As a principle, social media doesn’t line up with any governments or any authorities other than the ones where copyright is concerned. It’s not in the nature of the internet itself to be guarded by anything or anyone. Social media, like much of the internet, is fully public. Should the law get involved with Twitter, YouTube and Facebook any further?

If so, even platforms like Pinterest, Snapchat and Instagram should have to get involved as well. However, while it may feel like the internet is safer, it will only be in regards to terrorism. Many people will feel less safe browsing the internet if they know their activity is actively being monitored. Companies aren’t in favor of this either. So what is the right thing to do? As legislators and government officials deliberate the new bill, we’re sure to find out.

FireEye, a security firm based in the US, has found a new kind of malware that targets mass media. The malware was first spotted in Hong Kong, where it had been targeting smaller media agencies. The main targets were newspapers, radio stations, and TV studios.

The Malware Comes from Dropbox Accounts

The firm was able to trace the malware back to a series of Dropbox accounts. Particularly, a group of hackers under the name admin@338 is rumored to have ties to the Chinese government. They’ve been targeting international organizations in the financial, economic and trade policy sectors. They have employed spear-phishing campaigns before, in order to infect users with RATs, or Remote Access Trojans. Their latest attack, as observed by FireEye, is against media agencies that supported the protests that happened in Hong Kong last year.

admin@338 often sends word documents in emails sent to targets. These emails discuss anti-Chinese and pro-democracy topics, and they contain the CVE-2012-0158 Microsoft Office bug that lets hackers install LOWBALL malware onto the targets’ computers. The latest attack had an added bonus, as the C&C server was inside a Dropbox account and not elsewhere on the net. FireEye and Dropbox then joined hands to get behind the series of cyber security threats. There are over 50 accounts currently in danger of these attacks.

What Does this Mean for Terrorist Groups?

Terrorist factions like ISIS might take advantage of this information, spreading anti-jihadist propaganda to lure users into the trap and then infect their machines with malware. While it is not ISIS’s usual approach, the world is zeroing in on the group. It’s possible that the organization does everything it can to spread their extremist messages and put those that don’t share their faith in danger. Hopefully, FireEye, Dropbox, and other firms can come together against these cyber security threats.

Signal has launched a desktop version of their platform. The program, currently in beta, will run through Google Chrome and enable encrypted messaging from the web. The app, developed by Open Whisper systems, was famously used by Edward Snowden, but it could also aid communication between terrorist groups like ISIS.

Encrypted Calling and Messages Can Now Be Done Through the Web

Signal Desktop can now sync messages from Android devices, but they’re working on iOS compatibility. Voice calling has also not been fully integrated. Signal is free, and uses end-to-end encryption for sending messages, making calls and sending photos, providing the utmost security to users.

This is obviously a double-edged sword. Open Whisper Systems can’t even get access to the content shared between users since the platform never stores encryption keys. This makes it easy to use by people, but also extremists groups. There’s a big risk of this platform being used for potentially dangerous things, especially after news broke out that ISIS had been using Russian engineered Telegram to communicate.

Signal is Open Source But Dangerous

The Signal app is open-source, which means anyone can view their code. This means that any kind of tampering with the platform can be easily identified. This means that the users have direct access to everything the platform does or does not do with their information.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin has expressed that it will issue more sanctions against Turkey, clarifying that this is not the end to their conflict.

Parliament voted 397-223 in favor of joining the US in air strikes against ISIS. This would mean an expansion from Iraq in efforts to aid the Middle East in their bloody battle against the Islamic State.
