As of November 22, Sony has sold 30.2 million units of the PlayStation 4. This is about twice as many as the Xbox One, which lie between 15 and 18 million.
Sony Announces PS4 Sales
In a press release, Sony celebrates that while not being the fastest selling console of all time, it has had the strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history. Analysts are predicting that its growth will only increase with Black Friday and Cyber Monday specials.
The Xbox One Lags Behind
Though the Xbox One and PS4 are selling at a similar price, Xbox One is falling behind in sales. With the release of exclusive games like Halo 5, analysts expect to see a rise in numbers, but a difference of about 50 million units sold is still evident. Analysts have expressed that there isn’t much that Microsoft can do to ensure the sales of their console increase. With the arrival of backwards compatibility, Microsoft may be able to increase sales, but it’s not certain how long it may take the Xbox One to reach the same number sold as Sony unless Sony does something really unfortunate.
Holiday Season and Final Earnings Are Fast Approaching
After the holiday season, which may bring in a lot of numbers but not that much profit, the final count will surely bring Sony great news. With the way deals are looking, even the PS3 may hit another historic milestone in sales.
