#TouchFREE tech is here, serving those with #disabilities looking for a solution like this one. - http://clapway.com/2015/08/13/sesame-enable-touch-free-technology-is-here-somehow-353/

It feels like yesterday flip phones having one camera and your favorite song as a ringtone were the must-have gadgets. But in only 10 years, technology has progressed from manual handheld cellular devices to the world’s very first Touch FREE cellular device.

Who are Sesame Enable?

Sesame Enable was created to assist individuals suffering from illnesses such as ALS, paralysis, MS, and Parkinsons that prevent mobility/operating high-tech devices. The invention came to life after Co-Founder & CEO, Oded Ben Dov was given the idea from his Co-Founder, Giora Livine. Livine has lived quadriplegic for nine years after a spinal cord injury.

A Touch-Free Video Game

After discovering a video game invented by Ben Dov, Livine contacted Ben Dov and asked him to build him a smartphone that possess the same features. The game enabled its players to navigate through the game by simply motioning their head.

According to the Sesame Enable website, “The Sesame phone works by tracking the user’s head movements using the built-in, front-facing camera on the phone. . . The on-screen cursor is controlled by the position and movements of a user’s head, and supports even minimal movements.” Individuals who are physically challenged have the ability to check e-mails, play games and browse the web without lifting a finger.

Ben Dov was Down on his Luck and Indiegogo Answered

The irony of this occurrence is Ben Dov’s difficulty with finances upon the creation of his device. Oded Ben Dov struggled during the early stages of his project trying to fund it. His goal was to raise $30,000 and after coming across crowdfunding, Ben Dov has managed to receive $50,276 to support the cause. Indiegogo.com is the largest global fundraising site in the world and also the crowdfunding site Ben Dov decided to use. In addition to Ben Dov and his team’s accomplishments on, under the name Sesame Enable, they won first place in Verizon’s powerful answers contest.

Where to find Sesame Enable Touch-FREE Devices?

The device is not yet available in stores for in the U.S. however, it can be ordered through the Sesame Enable website. “About 2 million people in the U.S. could benefit from such a device,” said Ben Dov, “”Smarter devices that can be activated by voice, vision or slight movement have the potential of transforming many lives, increasing independence, access and communication.”

Stephen Hawking Will Be Doing a Reddit Q&A - http://clapway.com/2015/07/25/stephen-hawking-will-be-doing-a-reddit-qa567/

English cosmologist, physicist, and Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge, Stephen William Hawking, is supposed to hold a question and answer session on Reddit. Stephen Hawking, who has ALS, is considered to be one of the most profound and prolific scientists of all time and will be attempting to answer the public’s questions. Hawking will be answering questions posted on Reddit for more than a week.

stephen HAWKING’S AMA WILL BEGIN ON MONDAY JULY 27

Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking will be, as of Monday, answering questions posted on Reddit for more than a week. He will be answering the majority of the questions that come from the community. He also has a few topics in store for his audience as well. Hawking is also reportedly tempted to discuss his fears with artificial intelligence, which he states as, “potentially our greatest mistake in history.”

HAWKING WILL ANSWER MAJORITY OF QUESTIONS ON REDDIT

Recently, Stephen Hawking has made waves with other views on Artificial Intelligence, which is backed a quest to discover aliens resident in other star systems. Hawking has also given his support to the sum of $100 million Breakthrough Initiatives funded by the Russian billionaire Milner.

This will also mark the longest AMA, Ask Me Anything, ever in the entertainment, news, and social networking website. Reddit also is a haven for those who are sharing ideas, know-hows, skills, opinions, viewpoints.

THIS WILL BE THE LONGEST AMA ON REDDIT EVER

This will apparently be the longest question and answer session in the history of the free commenting website, which definitely needs a publicity boost. This question and answer is also a part of Wired and Nokia’s #MakeTechHuman initiatives, which is to start discussions that will inevitably benefit mankind.

A lot of people are wondering why Professor Hawking has been allowed to have such a long ‘Ask Me Anything’ – it is due to the amount of time that it takes for him to answer questions due to his slower communication method. He will be composing his answers using his Intel’s cutting edge assistive computer system.

His Question and Answer session will start on July 27, at 8 AM ET and the posts will appear on Reddit’s science section.

Are #funeraldirectors at a higher risk for #ALS? Mind that #IceBucketChallenge. - http://clapway.com/2015/07/14/high-risk-of-getting-als-for-funeral-directors-235/

The disease, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a fatal condition, which affects an impressive number of Americans each year. Most people who have ALS die from respiratory failure, within three to five years of diagnosis. .

Funeral Directors Are at Risk

In accordance with a new study, funeral directors may be at increased risk of getting the neurodegenerative disease called ALS because they are exposed to the formaldehyde in embalming fluids.

For the study, researchers used data from the National Longitudinal Mortality Study, a federal database that includes employment information on over 1 million U.S. adults.

The results of this brand-new study suggest that formaldehyde exposure may play an important role in getting ALS. Therefore, men who have certain jobs with a possible high exposure to formaldehyde seem to be three times more likely to die from ALS, compared to those who had no exposure to this chemical.

Funeral directors are in contact with formaldehyde, on a daily basis, since the chemical is used for embalming dead bodies. But they are not the only ones who might be in danger due to the consequences and risks the use of this chemical involves.

Not Just Funeral Directors — People Should Take Precautions

Formaldehyde is a chemical used not only for embalming dead bodies but also for a variety of other purposes. For example, making particleboard, wood products, as well as some glues, and even preservatives in shampoo are just some of the purposes this chemical has.

The fact that it is dangerous should is not something unknown since it has been classified as a possible human carcinogen at high exposures by the federal government. Therefore, all people who work close to formaldehyde are strongly advised to take as many precautions as possible and minimize their exposure to the substance. For instance, in the case of funeral directors, ventilating the rooms where embalming happens should be taken into consideration, as this procedure is a very effective way to reduce the formaldehyde exposure.

Dying carbon stars may be source of our DNA - http://clapway.com/2015/05/16/dying-carbon-stars-may-be-source-of-our-dna123/

You’ve heard it before — all the carbon atoms in our bodies were created in the stars. Recently, a series of lab experiments have concluded that the chemical cosmic spheres surrounding dying carbon stars might have once successfully traveled through space, through Earth’s atmosphere to impact its surfaces. Scientists and researchers are on a mission to prove that the matter surrounding these carbon-rich dying stars could have potentially created bio-relevant, nitrogen-rich molecules.

The evolution of life, (partially) aided by dying carbon stars

The team behind this hypothesis simulated conditions in the circumstellar envelopes of these stars, and deduced that they would have the capacity for such a biochemical creation. First, they injected a gas made from a type of nitrogen-filled, single-ringed carbon molecule and two acetylene carbon-hydrogen molecules into a hot nozzle measuring 700 degrees Kelvin. Afterward, they probed the gas with radiation from the Advanced Light Source (ALS), registered as one of the world’s brightest sources of ultraviolet beams. The result? The initial gas transformed into the nitrogen-containing complex ring molecules of quinoline and isoquinoline.

With this result, the scientists are now judging that the very key molecules responsible for human existence can in fact be produced in the violently hot, stellar environments of dying carbon stars. They further surmised that these molecules would then be emitted into the interstellar medium (ISM) and, subsequently, be diffused by stellar winds.

The real question remains: how were these molecules that once surrounded dying carbon stars able to survive journeying through space to reach Earth’s surface?

How bio-relevant matter survives impact on Earth

After molecular clouds collapse and are transported to regions where stars are formed, the bio-relevant matter (that these dying carbon stars would eventually hold) have the ability to be incorporated into circumstellar disks, in which planetary bodies are also formed.

The main idea is that organics (including nucleic acids), which begin life in interstellar environments, can enter into “meteoritic parent bodies.” Therefore, upon impact on Earth, a certain portion of the organics that are shaped within the interstellar medium would have been able to survive.

Still, you might think: weren’t some prebiotic cell components, like RNA, molded by ocean sediments with sulfur-filled clay compounds (thioesters)? However, the truth is, glycerol — the basest unit of all prebiotic cell components — can only be shaped within a narrow frame of environmental conditions. It can’t be made at extreme pH degrees, or alongside calcium or magnesium salts, which existed in very small concentrations on Earth at the time.
