How To Use Social Media to Benefit Your Adventure - http://clapway.com/2015/10/14/use-social-media-benefit-adventure/

More and more people around the world are attaching their screens to their life, and whether you like it or not, social media has become a big part of adventure. Perhaps you’re old school and think that screens have no place in the adventure lifestyle. It’s true that if you keep your face glued to your phone, you can miss out on something great going on in the world around you, but don’t forget that social media is a tool, a powerful tool, and as a tool it can be used correctly to aid your life or misused to damage it.

Social Media can be a pretty dense jungle to navigate, so here are some tips to help you use it to best benefit your adventure:

1. Create Quality

It doesn’t do much for you or anyone else to tweet that you’re climbing a mountain or kayaking a river. The Internet is about getting things instantly, but it’s also about collecting the truly great things. Every time you post or add something to a social media platform, you are creating content. Take the time to develop content you can be proud of that people will care about. There are some great devices out there that allow you to capture any adventure (such as GoPro or Lightbox. Videos and photographs are the big grabs, but audio is great too. There are a lot of birdwatchers out there who would enjoy a recording of the mating call of a red-tailed hawk or other bird. Wouldn’t that be so much nicer and more unique than just posting that you saw a hawk today? You could create a whole soundtrack that samples sounds found in the wilderness. The trick is in preparing your devices so that they detract the least from your adventure experience, and that means having the right tools.

2. Research

You don’t have to use social media while you’re actually on an adventure to benefit from it. If you don’t want any screens or wireless waves of data while you’re out and about, that’s fine. Others are doing that legwork for you already, and you can benefit from their documented experiences. Follow travelers on twitter to better learn about the places you want to go and how to get there. Use apps like Airbnb to find places to stay and save money while you travel. Scroll Tumblr or Pinterest to discover places you never even knew about, but now they’re your next must-go destination. Search Kickstarter and IndieGoGo for better equipment to use. The Internet is full of advice, and social media platforms makes locating the right advice for you all the easier. A true adventurer is always well prepared.

3. Stay Safe
GPS apps, weather apps, Yelp reviews, and tracking devices are all there to make sure you don’t take the wrong turn into somewhere you don’t want to be. (there’s actually a few new social media platforms being built around GPS and weather tracking to allow notes and experiences to be shared, providing more of a first hand account and ground view perspective in the information.)

You see, social media isn’t about detaching yourself from the real world, it’s about optimizing your real world experience. You just have to use it right.

Filtering through a massive amount of political information on the Internet can be crushing. But what if apps in social media-centric elections could help voters make informed decisions? #2016presidentialelection #apps #presidentialelectionapp - http://clapway.com/2015/09/24/apps-voters-presidential-election123/

Filtering through a massive amount of political information on the Internet can be crushing. But what if apps in social media-centric elections could help voters make informed decisions?

Campaign apps

A small digital agency called CanDo recently produced Rand Paul’s official campaign app. The technology lets users take selfies with Paul, interact with friends, share ideas about campaign positions, donate money and even play a secret arcade game to destroy Jeb Bush and Donald Trump campaign logos.

Fast Company interviewed CanDo CEO, Rob Ratterman, who explained via email that “developing apps for candidates is different from developing an app for, say, a corporate client”. A presidential campaign app has the primary goal of advocacy, Ratterman argues. The cocktail of news dissemination, donations, multimedia and social media engagement must stimulate both supporters and “those who might not otherwise give your candidate a second glance.”

Politically-minded apps

But if Rand Paul’s app is mainly targeted towards voters, what’s more interesting is a new concept developed in Toronto that hopes to help “disinterested voters” or those just looking for a summary of the current, chaotic political scene.

“The amount of information is overbearing. There is so much out there. And it’s really hard to cut through the noise and get to the facts,” said Pollenize co-founder, Trevor Blades, Global News reports.

In the U.S., the Politifact app, by the Pulitzer Prize-winning website from the Tampa Bay Times, has a team full of fact checkers that investigate just about every public political statement out there.

Frontrunner is another app following the 2016 presidential election. Here, users can follow up-to-date polling results “with a single swipe.” You can also select which candidates to keep an eye on and which to ignore, according to the app’s description.

Finding a void and filling it

Now, there’s even emoji for Hillary Clinton‘s hair accessories to rally support for the Democratic presidential candidate. But what about a virtual one-stop shopping platform for voters to get informed and involved by discussing and sharing political ideas in a constructive way?

It will be interesting to see if these types of apps will be developed in the next couple of months to walk voters through candidates and their stances on issues like immigration, economy and the environment.

Can Apps Help Voters In Presidential Election?

According to a Nielsen report from 2014, the average #American watches about five hours of #TV every day. This data is quickly becoming obsolete. - http://clapway.com/2015/09/13/apps-surpass-tv-091/

Think about this: when you’re sitting at home after a long day’s work, you’re probably watching TV, aren’t you? Probably. According to a Nielsen report from 2014, the average American watches about five hours of television every day. This data is quickly becoming a thing of the past, however. A new report from Flurry says that people are actually spending more time using mobile applications than they are watching TV. The crazy thing? The amount of time spent watching TV hasn’t decreased.

PLENTY OF PEOPLE ARE STILL WATCHING TV

Nielsen received part of their information from a 2015 U.S. consumers report. According to the report, people spend an astounding 198 minutes in mobile apps every day, which is 20 minutes more than they’re spending watching TV (168 minutes). The same report indicates that these is up considerably from last year’s 139 minutes, and the 126 minutes in 2013.

SEE ALSO: APPLE TV AND ITS SURVIVAL AS A GAMING CONSOLE

The report says that there is no way to gather data on how much of this time is spent overlapping. Plenty of people will browse their phones while watching TV or during commercials. Apps also happen to be pretty easy to get in and out of quickly. Maybe people check Facebook while they’re walking to the bathroom, or while stopped at a red light on the way home (though they shouldn’t). The fact is, it’s like comparing apples to oranges.

OTHER STATISTICS

The report doesn’t just cover how apps compare to watching TV. According to the report, mobile users have also been “trained” to purchase content through mobile apps. What some might consider “TV” apps have surprisingly found their way to the top of the top-grossing apps, a place that used to be a popular hangout for gaming apps. The report believes that media companies could “move its content to apps and stream it over-the-top, charge consumers for it through the App Stores, and still make money from ads.”

APPLE WANTS TO COMBINE TV AND APPS

Following Apple’s news about the new Apple TV, Apple CEO Tim Cook had a lot to say about what he envisions to be the future of TV.

“We believe the future of television is apps. In fact, this transition has already begun,” said Cook. The new Apple TV sports a brand new operating system call tvOS, and has its own version of the app store. Users will be able to stream content, shop, play games, and do just about anything they would with their phone, but on the big screen. A lot of people are watching TV online, and Apple is trying to be one of the first companies to embrace this behavior.

Are Some of Your Apps Eating Up All Your Data? - http://clapway.com/2015/07/26/are-some-of-your-apps-eating-up-all-your-data345/

If you have ever wondered why your favorite app isn’t running as smoothly on your phone with all the internal storage that you have? Well, you might be on to something. There are apparently a few ads in apps that slow down your phone, but they are never shown.

A LOT OF APPS HAVE PAID ADS ON THEM BUT THEY ARENT SHOWN

It’s actually quite a large controversy. Why would an app pretend to show ads, but not actually show them? It’s actually quite simple. People are usually unhappy when an app has too many ads for their liking. So, app designers will want to have less ads. A lot of people have opted for the ad-free apps and some apps even require you to pay for the ability to use your favorite apps without ads getting in the way of your experience. This is one of the most common option for a lot of app developers. Other apps have gone for another way of not featuring ads in the app – by charging a small amount of money to purchase it. This is to the advantage that there will no longer be a need to further program the app to make the ads fit inside them. This also means there isn’t a need for ads to provide revenue for the app designers. The downside is that people are less likely to purchase apps that cost money.

15% OF ALL APP DOWNLOADS HAVE ADS IN THE BACKGROUND

Fifteen percent of all app downloads have ads load in the background. Ads that are never displayed to you. These aps being loaded on your phone, but never seen, use up a lot of the data on your phone. This can add up to your phone data up to 2GB per day. These are videos and images that advertising companies pay for, but app designers are getting the money and not showing you the ads.

THIS INVESTIGATION WAS DONE BY A FRAUD DETECTION FIRM FOR APPS

This investigation was run by Forensiq, a fraudulent detection firm for ads. Thirteen percent of the ads given were not shown. This test was done across all three major operating systems which are Android, iOS for Apple, and Windows Phones. These apps are forbidden from all three of the app stores: Google Play, App Store and the Windows Store. The researchers behind this fraud investigation say that the best way to prevent these apps from using up all of your RAM, is to not use apps that you aren’t sure if they are going online or not.

Microsoft Releases All-Inclusive App Store - http://clapway.com/2015/07/16/microsoft-releases-all-inclusive-app-store456/

Microsoft officially opened an online store that is a combination of its Windows Phone Store and Windows Store into one large online shopping store. This universal app store is a part of the company’s efforts to bring the Windows 10 experience unity through all devices including phones, tablets and PCs.

THIS UNIFieS THE TWO PREVIOUS STORES

Previously, the Windows PC and tablet user would have to look for applications from the Windows Store, and those on Windows phones would have to browse apps on the Windows Phone Store. This new universal app store is making it easier for all Windows users.

MICROSOFT HOPES THIS WILL ATTRACT MORE WINDOWS USER

This common experience for everyone is a part of the Microsoft strategy for Windows 10 developers and users to use the same programming code and then modify the apps to fit the tablets, phones and PCs. These developments will help reduce the amount of time and expenses in comparison to the previous system. Microsoft hopes that this will encourage app developers to create more apps for both Windows mobile devices and Windows PCs. This will benefit the users, since they will have a greater variety of apps to chose from regardless of what device they are using.

Although the PC market isn’t doing so well, Microsoft’s smartphones are in need of a kick to get the company back on top. Microsoft is hoping that universal apps along with Windows 10 will succeed. Users who like Windows 10 might be more likely to buy a Windows 10 phone to have the same experience in both places. This is the plan that Microsoft has in order to generate more demand among both mobile phone buyers and PCs.

XBOX IS ALSO GETTING INVOLVED

Microsoft’s Xbox console is also being included in the Microsoft universal app movement. Xbox game developers can also use this common code in order to create games.

If you have a Windows 10 device, you can go to the universal app store home page to view the top Windows Phone apps and Windows apps. There is also the option to view all of the apps for the Xbox. On the page is also a search bar that will let you find whatever app you are looking for.

The user has a chance to earn in-game currency simply by referring the Doodle game to others.

With the coming of this game, Facebook has gone a step ahead in the gaming arena. As per technology experts, it is expected that Facebook shall make it big with this launch.

Facebook crossed its 1 billion mark for its Messenger downloads.
