Zuckerberg Thanks God With $45 Billion - http://clapway.com/2015/12/02/zuckerberg-thanks-god-with-45-billion/

The chief executive of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, has officially announced, via a letter, that he and his wife are going to be donating 99% of their total Facebook shares during their lifetimes. Zuckerberg said that that amounts to $45 billion of donations. This type of unselfishness and generosity is exactly what makes this world great and it can be rest assured that it puts a huge smile on God’s face.

ZUCKERBERG IS A NATIONAL HERO

Zuckerberg announced in his letter some of the reasoning behind why he is deciding to donate so much of his shares. He said in his letter that he wants the children of the world today to grow up in a better world. The fact that he is willing to donate so much of his money is amazing. Zuckerberg also mentioned in his letter that he would not dispose of more than $1 billion of Facebook’s stock in a given year. This would ensure that he is not putting himself in debt with as much money as he is planning to donate. Zuckerberg is also getting some recognition from one of the most successful men in the world. Bill Gates stated that he admired the fact that Zuckerberg is already starting to give back at such a young age, being only 31 years old. Anytime you get Bill Gates to give you recognition, you have done something right.

It takes a lot of unselfishness to donate 99% of your total revenue. Now understandably, even 1% of all total shares, for a company as huge as Facebook, will be enough to live on. If 99% of Facebook’s total shares is $45 billion, then 1% would most likely suffice. However, $45 billion is an amount of money that several people could not even dream of having, so donating it all to charity is masterful. Zuckerberg should be considered a living legend after his amazing generosity.

Win all the things you want with a cheaty #Twitter #bot like this guy. - http://clapway.com/2015/08/12/a-software-engineer-creates-a-twitter-bot-to-win-hundreds-of-contests-355/

If you spend any amount of time on Twitter then you’ve probably had a few contest tweets pop up in your news feed from time to time. Most of the time it’s someone trying to organically grow their group of followers by asking people to follow them and retweet their original tweet. In response, they’ll be entered to win a specific prize.

Hunter Smith, an electrical engineer at Motorola, saw these and asked himself if anyone actually won these contests. Well, rather than sitting around and pondering something he’d never know the answer to, Smith decided to program a python script that would enter these contests on his behalf.

Smith’s Twitter Bot

Over the course of nine months, Smith’s Twitter bot entered him into 165,000 contests on Twitter, but he only won about 1,000 of those.

According to Smith’s blog, the Python script would log into Twitter and begin to search for tweets that mentioned anything about retweeting to win and retweet them. Smith said that he saw plenty of other users manually entered into these contests, but never saw anyone else running a script like his.

Cheating the System

The key to Smith’s Twitter bot was finding the perfect balance between following, unfollowing, and tweeting. You see, Twitter actually tracks various statistics it considers shady and use them to ban users from the site. Tweeting too often, aggressively retweeting, and following too many people in too short amount a time are all things that could lead to a user being banned from Twitter.

Most of the contests that Smith entered required him to follow and retweet the original tweeter, which is around 611 tweets and follows every day. After a lot of trial and error, Smith found out that a user with only a few hundred followers can only follow around 2000 people. To skirt around this limitation, he made sure that he would only follow the most recent 2000 people, and would only unfollow them when the contest had ended. As luck would have it, the number of contests he could find on Twitter never allowed him to exceed this amount.

What Does Winning 1,000 Contests Get You?

You can check out the entire list of items Smith won on his site, but Smith says his favorite prize was a cowboy hat autographed by the cast of a Mexican soap opera.

“I love it because it really embodies the totally random outcome of these contests,” said Smith in his blog.

What was his most valuable find? A trip to New York Fashion Week. It included a limo ride for Smith and a friend, $500 for spending money, and some tickets for a few shows. Smith decided to not claim the prize since he didn’t live near New York and didn’t want to pay for the taxes on its reported value ($4,000).

Nowadays Smith says he’s putting his Twitter bot to good work by retweeting people who are raising money for charities.

Bill Gates Funded Malaria Vaccine Earns European Approval - http://clapway.com/2015/07/24/bill-gates-funded-malaria-vaccine-earns-european-approval335/

Malaria, one of the greatest threats to human life in places like Zambia, Kenya, and the broader sub-Saharan Africa, may have met its mortal match. A malaria vaccine that Bill Gates has backed whole-heartedly (which is to say, affluently) was just approved by the European Medicines Agency. It’s called Mosquirix.

FINAL TESTING GROUNDS for the malaria vaccine

The next step for this malaria vaccine is for it to be reviewed and tested by the World Health Organization. In order for Moquirix to pass, consent and support must be gained from individual countries.

aFFECTED DEMOGRAPHICS

Initially, trials completed thus far have shown the vaccine is most effective in infants and toddlers, between the ages of 5 and 17 months. This would cut the number of present malaria cases by nearly half. For babies younger than this, the malaria vaccine caused the number of cases to drop by 27%.

WHY THE CHILDREN?

Mosquirix is best suited for the youngest children for a few reasons. Firstly, their immune system is still developing, so the malaria vaccine can be made a part of the child’s immune system’s fundamental structure, instead of an added misnomer in adulthood. Secondly, since a child’s immune system is weak in this stage of their life, it is also when they are most susceptible to malaria.

HOW DOES THE VACCINE WORK?

malaria-cover-sized

Mosquirix is rather unique. Most vaccines go straight to the bloodstream, but Mosquirix, having been designed to preclude disease from a parasite, actually prevents Malaria from producing and multiplying itself in the liver, before it ever has a chance to enter the patient’s bloodstream and cause the symptomatic signs .

PRESCRIBED DOSAGE

The new vaccine is administered in four doses: the first three occur one month apart, and the final booster dose is administered one and a half years later to reinforce protection from the disease.

WHY PREVENT A DISEASE THAT’S CURABLE?

Despite this disease’s being completely preventable and perfectly treatable, Malaria has killed 584,000 people in 2013, ninety percent of which happened exclusively in sub-Saharan Africa. What’s worse, 83% killed were under the age of five.

According to the World Health Organization, Malaria is the fifth largest killer in sub-Saharan Africa.

The project responsible for bringing this vaccine into successful project, Path, is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which pumped over $200 million into the vaccine’s development and testing.

HARROWING WAIT

Unfortunately, this vaccine is not yet licensed in countries where malaria is most widespread. The World Health Organization anticipates that, until 2017, these countries will be on their own.

Twitter Removes Flickering Video After Criticism From Epilepsy Organization - http://clapway.com/2015/07/11/twitter-removes-flickering-video-after-criticism-from-epilepsy-organization569/

Twitter recently pulled two flashing videos from Vine after an epilepsy group, Epilepsy Action, complained that they are very dangerous and could possibly trigger seizures.

EPILEPSY ADVOCACY GROUP TWEETED TWITTER TO TAKE DOWN THE VINE

Epilepsy Action, a United Kingdom based epilepsy advocacy group said that flashing bright lights and patterns are commonly reported triggers for seizures. The Vine video ads on Twitter’s website were designed to promote new artists and were six second loops of bright flashing colors.

Epilepsy Action tweeted Friday that the #DiscoverMusic Vines are dangerous to people with photosensitive epilepsy. They asked for Twitter to take them offline. Less than 24 hours later, Twitter responded by taking them down.

65 MILLION PEOPLE around the world have epilepsy

According to the deputy chief of Epilepsy Action, 87 people are diagnosed with epilepsy everyday and that the first seizure can oftentimes come out of the blue. They also said that for Twitter, with its enormous size and millions of users, to take the risk was irresponsible. Over 65 million people around the world have epilepsy. In 1997, an episode of Pokémon was reported to be linked to hundred of seizures. In 2012 a rippling logo involving an Olympics TV spot was also reportedly the cause of seizures.

According to research, these incidents point to a long history or video-oriented industries learning to keep content safe for all. This often happens by providing warnings on packaging or promotions for flashing content. First the attention was on television, then on computers and video games, and after on cell phones and mobile devices. Apps, animations and videos flood through mobile devices including the safely broadcasted content.

ACCORDING TO STATISTICS, 3% OF EPILEPTICS ARE VISUALLY SENSITIVE

According to the Epilepsy Society, people with photosensitive epilepsy have their seizures triggered by contrasting lights and dark patterns.

“Marketing communications shouldn’t include visual techniques and effects that are adversely affect members with photosensitive epilepsy,” according to the Advertising Standards Authority. According to statistics three percent of people with epilepsy are susceptible to seizures if they see certain visual patters including flashing lights.

If a user is concerned about how to block videos on Twitter from automatically playing.
