NASA awards $2 million to four special minority-serving institutions to help strengthen their science, technology, engineering, and math programs. Four universities were chosen to receive these NASA awards, separated into $500,000 each to heighten their STEM programs in the course of three years.
NASA Awards: The Goal Is to Recognize Students Excelling in STEM Work
NASA is looking to recruit excellent students for their space exploration programs. Their MUERP program targets underserved communities that are looking to pursue careers in the STEM fields. With this in mind, NASA awards the following universities: University of Hawaii, Honolulu; Howard University, Washington; University of Texas at El Paso and Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina.

These NASA awards look to provide minority serving institutions the opportunity to represent different American demographics. Their goal is to give these unrecognized students the chance to show the world their excellence and also potentially become a part of NASA’s space exploration programs.
NASA Recognizes Ethnic Excellence
These NASA awards are one more incentive for universities that have seen excellent students that are predominantly African American, Hispanic or Asian/Asian American. This incentive will hopefully become more widespread worldwide, and not only in the United States. NASA has been looking to recruit more staff from all sides of the scientific community, and academics are surely only the beginning.
