Google Removes Ok Google From Chrome Desktop - http://clapway.com/2015/10/19/google-removes-ok-goggle-chrome-desktop/

Google recently released their newest version of Chrome and they have decided to eliminate the ‘OK Google’ feature from Chrome desktops. Why was the decision made to ultimately due away with this feature for desktops?

It’s More Effective to Talk to Your Phone than to Your Computer

The first main thing that should be said is Google only eliminated this feature from desktop computers, but this feature is still available on mobile devices and on Chromebooks.

‘OK Google’ is a voice command that allows people to use the microphone installed in their device to tell Chrome what to search instead of manually typing it in to the Chrome search bar. According to Google, they thought it would be convenient when someone is cooking dinner or has their hands full that they could just speak what they wanted Chrome to search.

Ultimately, the company realized that it is way more efficient to pull your phone out and talk to it then it is to open your laptop and talk to it. This led to Google pulling the plug on using this feature on desktops.

Some People Didn’t Even Know About Ok Google in the First Place

I, for one, use Chrome every single day, frequently on my desktop or laptop. In fact, prior to the news some would have never known this feature even existed.

Point being is there are dozens or thousands of users that have been using Chrome for years and never knew this feature was there and got by just fine.

Google really did not need this feature for Chrome desktops because most of the time when you are on a desktop you have easy access to typing via a keyboard. On a mobile phone the same luxuries of typing are not there and it is much more convenient to use this feature. The company should lose absolutely nothing in this decision, but they will gain nothing with this decision either. This feature was not slowing down their browser or having any ill effects on it, but it was not necessarily helping the browser either. The ‘OK Google’ feature is officially gone from all up to date Chrome desktops and should probably not end up affecting very many people.
