The Nexus 6P is Garnering A Lot of Attention
The new Nexus 6P phone has hit the top of the Chinese smartphone market, knocking all other competitors, including previous topper Xiaomi, out of the game. This, however, does not come as much of a surprise to many.
Huawei Steps it Up in its Local Market
Huawei, Nexus’ mother company, has invested a significant amount of money into smartphone operations for the past two years, all in the effort to knock down Samsung and Xiaomi. Other Chinese competitors have taken up Google’s free Android OS to work towards the same goal, but Huawei has an advantage. Being first and foremost a telecommunications equipment manufacturer, and not just a smartphone manufacturer, Huawei has deeper relationships with other wireless companies around the world, bringing endless sales channels and countless offers from all sides of the globe.
Supply is high and demand is low in the Chinese market, putting all smartphone making companies in a standstill; they’ve only seen a stagnant market growth, since everyone who wants a smartphone in the great country most likely already has one, or three. So the market share battles are now all about consumers that are looking to upgrade their phones, which are usually the most selective ones, and given Huawei’s track record of mostly positive reviews, they’re on a good track.
Huawei vs. Xiaomi: Excitement Has Waned Towards Huawei
Despite big competition like Apple and Samsung, Huawei has managed to dethrone them all to claim the top spot. Xiaomi, on the other hand, is on a slightly different path. The company, valued at $45 billion, declared its mission to sell 80 million smartphones in 2015, but its performance in sales has not been ideal.
The company has otherwise received good profit from selling home appliances like air purifiers and smart TVs, but ultimately it has gone off-course. It’s yet to be seen whether or not they’ll be able to hit their goal, but for now, Huawei is taking all the excitement on the release of new smartphones. The company has always had commendable variety and flexibility when it comes to their devices, and Xiaomi, while it has been excelling in other markets, has unfortunately inspired none.
