Honda has announced the specs for the long-awaited NSX ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show.
The NSX, fruit of a partnership between Honda and General Motors, hopes to bring innovation to hydrogen fuel cell technology. After four years of prototyping and testing, developing and more testing, the sports car is just about ready to hit the market.
But in order to ensure absolute perfection, Honda has decided to push back its release to next year.
We Don’t Get the Car, But We Get the Specs
The Honda Acura NSX will sport three electric motors plus a twin-turbo V6 VTEC engine, and it will deliver over 570bhp. It’ll be able to send different levels of power to each f the four wheels.
The car will be able to go 0 to 100kmph in 2.9, and has a top spead of 305kmph. Its hybrid all-wheel drive set up boots its acceleration rate and brings new levels of stability, bringing the changes of rocking and rolling in the corners through the wheels to a very bare minimum.
Ted Claus, Acura NSX Global Development Leader, commented that with the development of this all-wheel drive system, the company has been able to take advantage of the ‘superior’ responsiveness of the electric motor stats in the system, which are powered by an independent battery. The battery’s goal is to expand the benefits of direct yaw control.
The car is set to cost about $150,000. A fraction of the cost of luxury sports cars with the same technology, Honda hopes to bring the world a sportier alternative to cars like the McLaren P1, the LaFerrari or a Porsche 911.
To Honda, It’s More About the Technology
The automaker’s goal is to use the new car as a test for hydrogen fuel technology, which they hope to implement into all future Acura and Honda mass-market models, the first of which will come with the next installment of the Honda Civic.
Currently, Honda is putting in the final touches on new turbocharged VTEC units, which have more power, torque and performance at just 1-liter than other aspirated engines and consumes significantly less fuel. On this, Managing Director at Honda UK Philip Crossman added that the company is responding to market demand for fuel efficiency, and the trend to not allow fuel efficiency to compromise on power.
The New Honda Civic Will Be Revealed in 2017
The new model of the series will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017, while Honda presents its new hydrogen fuel cell car at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show. Both Honda and General Motors will put in all available resources to forward this technology, which will be integrated into all their future vehicles.
