Jonathan Mayo, Nissan’s Joint Managing Director, announced that with improved technology and a greater rage, an increasing number of businesses and motorists are seeing the benefits of electric vehicles. So it’s only fair that Nissan, notable for standing behind the electric car cause, caters to these views.
The GT-R is said to become fully electric by 2020, in an attempt by the automobile company to help make electric cars the norm. They even plan to give it Tesla-like performance features, such as the “Insane Button” and the “Ludicrous Button, in an attempt to compete.
Nissan Plans to Make a ‘World Beater’
Gareth Dunsmore, Marketing Communications Head of Nissan Europe, however, argues that before the project can begin, the company must be convinced that the technology to be used is indeed the best, and the the vehicle should be a ‘world beater’ if production is planned for it.
A company like this one is not likely to let others get ahead in terms of new technology, and when it comes to electric cars, Nissan has long been a pioneer.
Nissan is no stranger to electric car pursuits. In fact, one of the three concept vehicles it will showcase at the Tokyo Motor show is all electric, and another, the Z-inspired crossover Gripz concept car, is a hybrid. Nissan’s ZEOD RC endurance racer is also able to run exclusively on electric power, so this is just one more venture into what Nissan believes is the future of automobiles.
Electric GT-R Has Been Long Planned to Become Electric
Their first push toward making an electric model of the GT-R was in 2010, but then the technology wasn’t advanced enough. Five years later it is high time for electric cars, and it seems Nissan won’t leave it to Tesla to take over the electric car market.
The possibility of this car may not come to full fruition by the end of this decade, but it is a promising proposal that will make for a great competitor to California’s Tesla.
The next Tokyo Motor Show will be host to the Teatro de Dayz, their all electric model concept, and the Z-inspired crossover Gripz concept from October 29th till November 8th.
