Four Reasons Why Instagram is Worse than Facebook - http://clapway.com/2016/01/13/four-reasons-why-instagram-is-worse-than-facebook/

Social media needs to be tread lightly because it has been known to cause depression and resentment in users. Facebook has often been received as the biggest culprit. However, Instagram is worse than them. Jessica Winter, an author, wrote about the issues with social media and why Instagram is the worst.

Studies have actually been garnered in the past about how Facebook is affecting people. As a matter of fact, the Human-Computer Institute found that Facebook creates loneliness and depression for some people. They found that this is due to your friends’ feeds, and even your own feeds. Two other universities took part in a study and found that vacation photos are the biggest culprit with user resentment. Many users begin to feel that their lives are simply not as good as others. This is clearly not the intent of these types of photos, but they can come off like that. Winter then went on to give four reasons to why Instagram is even worse.

FOUR REASONS WHY INSTAGRAM IS WORSE THAN FACEBOOK

The biggest reason why Winter noted that Instagram is worse than Facebook is due to the fact that the former is completely image-driven. So, the issue of vacation photos that was presented earlier becomes even more of an issue. With this platform, users are only exposed to photos and those feelings of loneliness become much more apparent. Adding on to this is three other major reasons. These reasons include Instagram messing with your sense of time, them distilling the emotional aspects of Facebook, and them upping your chances of seeing stalkers. The last reason is definitely worth noting as some people will feel the need to stalk someone else who consistently uploads what they are doing. The main aspect to remember is social media needs to be taken in moderation. If this is achieved, then these issues should not be present.

Facebook and Instagram Doing Great, Twitter is in Trouble - http://clapway.com/2016/01/13/facebook-and-instagram-are-doing-great-twitter-is-in-trouble-123/

A new statement from Twitter has declared that Periscope video feeds will now be viewable directly from the platform. This is good news for Facebook and Instagram.

User Growth Is Faltering on Twitter Clapway

User Growth Is Faltering on Twitter

User growth is the single most important factor when it comes to social media. There have been small increases in the US in recent months. Even the biggest social media networks have been flatlining in the United States and gained very little abroad. It looks like everyone who wants a Twitter account already has one.

Jack Dorsey Might Make Things Right

In an effort to shake things up, co-founder Jack Dorsey returned as the CEO of the Twitter. This is roughly like when Steve Jobs stepped in to use market capitalization to make Apple what it is today. However, his efforts haven’t been entirely effective. The platform has tried out curated feeds of content dedicated to certain themes or events, to no avail.

Jack Dorsey has been blamed for the plateauing for not dedicating all of his time to this platform. Currently, he splits his work between Twitter and his own company, Square. Investors are extremely disappointed. It has reached the point where the social media website’s stock went under $20 for the first time sine 2013. Right now, the company’s stock is at around $19.64.

Jack Dorsey is bringing in Periscope to right some wrongs. The popular live streaming app was acquired by Twitter last year, so this not too surprising a move. It allows users to live stream video from anywhere with an Internet connection, and other users can view and comment on the content as it happens.

Periscope Could Pull a Vine

According to the announcement blog post, this will give Twitter more dimension. It effectively lets the user get pulled into their feed or specific favorite accounts. It will hopefully give people a reason to log into Twitter and stay there instead of switching around. This will also boost Periscope’s popularity as some users may even want to download the separate platform.

Twitter recently acquired Vine, which records and loops 6-second videos. The platform became so popular that it became its own service though it still works seamlessly within Twitter. The same thing could happen to Periscope. The new update will roll out to iOS on January 12. It will be coming later for web and Android users.

What Does This Mean for Facebook and Instagram?

Facebook and Instagram are doing just fine on their own. While Instagram’s video platform isn’t as popular as Vine, it’s still widely used and functional. Facebook is bringing in a video platform of their own soon, which will allow for Facebook to work like a combination of social media and YouTube. On that side of the spectrum, it’s safe to say these two social media platforms will be largely unaffected by this update.

Girls Become Bigger Sluts with Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat - http://clapway.com/2015/12/16/girls-become-bigger-sluts-with-instagram-facebook-and-snapchat/

If the title just insulted you I do apologize, but you can not deny it. Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and just the Internet as a whole have made girls bigger sluts. Now, this is not saying that all girls around the world are sluts, but the internet is creating more and more.

Girls Become Bigger Sluts with Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat

THE INTERNET IS MAKING MORE GIRLS SLUTS

If you ask 100 people what the internet is best for, I bet a majority of them would say porn. Let’s face it, the internet is a huge porn box. Anyone and anybody can look up porn on the web. This would be excluding children whose parents have blocked that type of content. However, you get the point. Not only this but the fact that it seems more women are exposing themselves on social media websites. It has almost become the new trend of the world today.

Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat

FACEBOOK ONE OF THE SERVICES THAT INCREASES SLUTS

Facebook is one of the largest social media platforms in the world right now. They do have a strict policy on sexual content. However, conversations between people about sexual intercourse are still easy to get away with. With the world more exposed to sexual content than ever before, people’s minds start to think differently. Facebook makes it easy for women to communicate, or even men for that matter, about setting up a time to have sex.

Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat

INSTAGRAM AND SNAPCHAT ARE A CAUSE FOR SLUTS TOO

Facebook is not the only service attributed to more sluts around the world. Instagram and Snapchat are not helping either. Instagram is fairly similar to Facebook, and anything that was said about Facebook could be said about Instagram. Snapchat is mainly a video application service. One could already see where this can be a problem with sexual content. Sexual content can be shared between two people.

VANITY FAIR RAN A HOOK-UP APP

Vanity Fair previously this year ran a feature naming hook-up app entitled Tinder. What this app does is connect users to an unlimited amount of sexual partners. So, this app was turning the users into sexual addicts. This actually forced the AIDS Healthcare Foundation to run ads notifying the public that Tinder increases the amount of sexually transmitted diseases. In other words, Tinder was creating more and more sluts every day. The problem with all of this is it is probably too late for the world to change.

Woman Sex Slut Social Media

FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, AND SNAPCHAT ARE POWERLESS

These three companies intent was not to create more sluts in the world. However, due to the insane amount of porn on the web, and a society that symbolizes sex much differently than in the past, they have. The problem is, is that they are powerless to stop it. They can not just shut down their services because that would kill their businesses. However, they also must know that their services allow people an easier time to communicate and partake in sexual activities.

DOES THE PORN INDUSTRY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN?

DOES THE PORN INDUSTRY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN?

There might be one solution to stop the outrageous amount of sex present in our world today. Shutting down the porn industry would solve a lot of these problems. However, I highly doubt that that will ever happen. It should really be considered, though. Not only for the amount of people being brainwashed with sexual content but for the amount of people suffering from STD’s and HIV. As long as the internet has porn large social media websites, like Facebook and Instagram will still have more girls turning into sluts.

Tumblr Slammed Down Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram with this New Feature - http://clapway.com/2015/12/11/tumblr-slammed-down-twitter-pinterest-and-instagram-with-this-new-feature/

Tumblr has taken advantage of the new feature that Apple has opened up. Opening this new feature to their users will put them ahead of Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. The feature that was added by them is known as Live Photos.

2. Tumblr Live Photos Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram

APPLE OPENS UP LIVE PHOTOS FEATURE

This is a very cool feature that Apple opened up to the public. They introduced it for their smartphones using the iOS 9.1 operating system. This would be the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus smartphones. Basically, Apple opened this Live Photos feature to make it so developers could share Live Photos. However, what exactly is this feature?

WHAT THE LIVE PHOTOS FEATURE IS THAT TUMBLR ADDED

This Live Photos feature is what you can imagine it is. It allows users to capture moving images. This will allow users to be able to include movement and sound into their photos. This adds a lot of diversity to image taking. Tumblr mentions how all users have to do to use this is to update the app’s latest version. When this is done, the feature will be available to the users. Sharing these photos will work the exact same way as any normal photo would. The only subtle alteration is users will see a special icon on any photo that is live. This will make them easy to find when looking through images.

2. Tumblr Live Photos

TUMBLR ALSO ADD USES FOR 3D TOUCH

First of all, 3D Touch basically allows the live photo to come to life. The image must be pressed and then it will reveal all the animation and sound. However, the company has added more uses to this feature. The company points out that this feature will now play a role in searching across their domain. Using the 3D Touch when searching for something will initiate an avatar showing a preview. It will be done the same way that it would be done to animate a photo.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR TWITTER, PINTEREST, AND INSTAGRAM

Tumblr has positioned themselves above Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram after this one. Tumblr was the first major social networking service to implement this feature into their domain. This will now give users an extra incentive to switch over to them. As of right now Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram do not support this feature, but they might want to soon. This is such a cool feature that all three of these services need to take a page out of Tumblr’s book and implement it.

FACEBOOK ANNOUNCES WHAT TWITTER, PINTEREST, AND INSTAGRAM NEED TO

Facebook is certainly not waiting to take advantage of this great new feature provided by Apple. They announced that later this year they are going to update their app to support Live Photos. No specific date was stated, they just said it would be available for their users within the next year. Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest need to follow in Facebook’s steps and do the same. Live Photos is certainly a feature that needs to be present for all major social networking services.

KEEP ON EYE ON TWITTER, PINTEREST, AND INSTAGRAM IN THE FUTURE

It is not a guarantee, but it would be a surprise for these three services to not add this feature soon. There is no reason to believe that they would just allow Tumblr, and now Facebook, to have an advantage that they do not have. This is especially considering that Live Photos is a feature that Apple is opening to any developer that wants it. It is hard to believe a scenario in which Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram would not want to add Live Photos to their domain. Keep an eye on these three in the future.

These Sad Topographies Could Make People Suicidal - http://clapway.com/2015/12/10/these-sad-topographies-could-make-people-suicidal123/

There are things all over the world that are named strangely. Some are hilarious, others pun-tastic, and some are just plain depressing. Artist Damien Rudd spotted some interestingly named places in South Australia, and these sad topographies could give anyone the blues.

sad topographies

A Study in Sad Topographies: Mouth Hopeless

The project has been carried out through Instagram account @sadtopographies, and it takes snapshots from Google Maps screens. Some interesting spots are in North America, like Failure Canyon in Utah, or Lake Torment in Canada. Thanks to the hilarity and slightly sardonic look to these pictures, the account has gotten more than 51,000 followers since it was first started.

There are only 90 pictures in the account, but their now signature #sadtopographies have taken the Internet by storm. One of its more compelling posts shows a place called Mamungkukumpurangkuntjunya Hill, a spot in South Australia. The name is translated to ‘where the devil urinates’ in the local language, Pitjantjatjara. Other hilarious finds talk about Sad Road, Mount Despair, and even a body of water called Melancholy Waterhole.

This Could Drive People to Suicide or Actually Cheer Them Up

These pictures could be triggers, but they could also be small reassurances for the general public. Not only is the hashtag compelling, but the makeup of the pictures is so bleak that it makes it quite funny. Some people could access the site therapeutically, or for a quick pick-me-up throughout the day.

There are interestingly named things all over the world, and they’re not limited to landmarks. Earlier this week, press revealed that Kimye’s new baby boy Saint West, just to prove that the world never disappoints when people expect to be surprised. This Instagram account may even inspire other ones to be created, with creepy, funny or cutely named landmarks and buildings being photographed from Google Maps.

New Twitter Look is A Lot Like Instagram - http://clapway.com/2015/12/10/new-twitter-timeline-looks-a-lot-like-instagram-123/

Twitter has always been lacking somehow as a social media platform, and the new Twitter look is hoping to change that. It has never been as popular as Facebook, and when Pinterest, Instagram and Snapchat were introduced to the masses, Twitter lost a lot of its ground.

New Twitter Look

Twitter Revamps its Timeline

The new Twitter layout makes it so that pictures aren’t cropped. While this is slightly withdrawn from the principle of tweeting, which is scrunching thoughts onto 150 characters or less, it’s a welcome change. The fact that photos got awkwardly cut off was one of many complaints that users had. It made it less convenient to upload pictures, and a lot of users were discouraged from it.

The New Twitter Look is Oddly Reminiscent of Instagram

Earlier in the year, Twitter rolled out an update that replaced Favorites with Likes, which was much in the likeness of Facebook. According to the official announcement, this happened because users can’t Favorite anything. Users will hopefully favorite the new look of the platform. The new layout makes it look a lot like Instagram, with a similar detail placement. Is it possible that by combining different aspects of different social media platforms Twitter will become more popular?

Will The Social Network Get its Wonder Back?

Hopefully, this new Twitter look gives it some more hype and attention. It would be well-deserved, too, as the platform is still unique in its own way. The blue bird still is a household item, present in probably every home screen of every smartphone, and it could recover what glory it has lost with coming updates.

Twitter has even lost to its sibling company Vine, which blew up quite dramatically throughout the past two years. Although the platform also adopted a ‘Like’ feature, it’s been much more successful at drawing new public and keeping it. Many videographers and musicians have been discovered through the platform. A time will come again where Twitter will be a force to be reckoned with.

Social Media is Taking Lives - http://clapway.com/2015/11/05/social-media-sucks-up-your-life123/

Essena O’Neil, Instagram star and Australian model, has just announced she’ll quit social media. According to the star, it was all fun and games and hundreds of likes on Instagram, but in reality, she felt lost and lonely.

Her take on social media? It’s not real. Much like some of us have heard ‘never believe anything you see on television’, O’Neil suggests you don’t believe on social media either. The Aussie became Instagram famous thanks to shots of herself in great clothes and great backgrounds, and fans were surprised to see her delete her account and come back with an entirely different one. She deleted thousands of her pictures and edited captions to say ‘social media is an illusion’. The nineteen-year old felt she was worth only as much as her Instagram posts, and her reception there and in other social media.

Dead - Clapway

For some posts, she was paid to wear outfits and promote certain products, and like many social media personalities, they are even told what to say and when to upload pictures. The model decided to delete her Instagram as a wake-up call to her public, reminding them to remember that even social media can be synthetic. Since age 12, Essena O’Neil has gained over 500,000 followers across her social media accounts, but she felt it wrong that modern society associated followers, likes, views and comments as validation of popularity, and ultimately of worth.

From now on, O’Neil wants to handle herself differently, and treat social media as a way to tell teens that fame, especially on social media platforms, doesn’t make you any better or worse than anyone else. She wants to find a radical way to call out the double standards on social media, and tell her followers that they should always give themselves their best chance to be happy.

This week, a #HipsterBarbie Instagram account, poking fun at the "Generation Hipster," has become an Internet sensation. Here"s why we"re against it. #liveauthentic #socality - http://clapway.com/2015/09/09/hipster-barbie-instagram123/

This week, a parody Instagram account, poking fun at the “Generation Hipster,” has become an Internet sensation, growing from 66,000 followers to 826,000 in just a few days.

I Am Against Hipster Barbie Instagram Account - Clapway

The hipster alter ego

…takes artsy pictures of morning coffee, snaps selfies with pseudo philosophical expressions and is fashion-conscious. You’ve heard all these stereotypes before. These are the clichés applied to a small and fundamentally insignificant subset of a generation, which are being satirized by the Socality Barbie Instagram account.

Hipster Barbie: #liveauthentic

The woman behind the initiative, a wedding photographer from Portland, Oregon, who prefers to remain anonymous, crafted the Instagram account about three months ago to poke fun at those hashtagging photos with #liveauthentic and #socality.

“People were all taking the same pictures in the same places and using the same captions,” she says. “I couldn’t tell any of their pictures apart so I thought, ‘What better way to make my point than with a mass-produced doll?"”

Images of Hipster Barbie sipping an artfully foamed cappuccino, wearing a beanie hat and thick-rimmed glasses, relaxing in a hammock or jumping in front of the sunset on a beach, have intruded streams of Instagram photos.

“Could I be any more authentic?” the doll asks in the captions.

Instagram Is…

Yes, Instagram can be a never-ending agglomeration of vain selfies taken in exotic lands, but the photo-sharing app is much more than a platform used to boost one’s ego.

I Am Against Hipster Barbie Instagram Account - Clapway

The short documentary Instagram Is, for instance, explores how something as digital as a mobile app actually encourages people to move away their devices and into the analog world.

“In a culture immersed in technology, Instagram is reviving adventure, face to face community & real relationships,” the filmmakers write.

Calling millennials “hipsters” is inaccurate

It’s understandable why the Socality Barbie account received so much media attention, but the experiment is as much fun as it is pretentious in its own ways.

Is a narcissistic hipster the first image that comes to mind, as millennials start to define themselves? The term is often associated with limited political participation, facial hair and low ambition in life. Articles describe hipsters as members of a “movement with no direction” and as “poster children” for an entire age group that will be “forever known as the generation that sat and watched as their country plummeted into debt, war, handpicked coffee grounds, and handlebar mustaches.”

Wow. If that’s the case, there’s something extremely wrong with how the world labels today’s generation, and Sociality Barbie is doing nothing but reinforcing the hipster stereotype. Maybe it’s time to stop ridiculing.

Hipster Barbie: Diversity vs stereotypes

Millennials comprise about 77-80 million of the population in America alone. This group of people is actually “more socioeconomically, ethnically, and ideologically diverse than any generation that’s come before,” Tom Hawking writes for Flavorwire.

From the kid of a refugee, working at a 7-Eleven to save money for college, to the African-American single mother waiting tables for tips, millennials are simply too diverse to classify under the reductive hipster stereotype. The majority of millennials aren’t privileged, white, and middle-class, Hawking reminds readers.

Millennial generation in popular culture

“There’s a sort of determined ignorance about the way that the millennial generation is depicted in popular culture, a sense that the people doing the stereotyping don’t really want to know the the truth behind their clichés, because the truth is difficult and complicated and doesn’t make for being put into a convenient box like the hipster image does,” Hawking says.

“But we should demand better, because a cultural discourse that consists of variations on the phrase “These darn kids and their darn smartphones” helps precisely no one.”

Next time, maybe someone will come up with an Instagram account showcasing diversity rather than reinforcing stereotypes.

Study Explains Why Instagram Depresses You #instagram #depression #socialmedia - http://clapway.com/2015/08/24/instagram-depresses-you123/

Research released in the peer-reviewed Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking journal indicates that following famous strangers on Instagram could have a negative psychological effect.

“There is growing evidence that following strangers on (social networks) and comparing oneself to others have important implications for well-being,” the study stated.

HOW INSTAGRAM DEPRESSES YOU

A main reason, on Instagram at least, thought to cause psychological issues is following more strangers than friends. In an interview with San Jose Mercury News, Pace University psychology professor and co-author of the study Leora Trub, said: “More Instagram use is related to greater depressive symptoms only for those at the highest level of strangers followed.” Trub asked 117 Instagram users between the ages of 18 to 29 about their use of the platform and their feelings in comparison to other users of the platform.

MORE FACEBOOK USERS ARE FRIENDS WITH STRANGERS

And increasingly, users are including strangers in their social media circle. The Mercury News mentioned that the market research organization Statista has found that the average Facebook user’s amount of friends has increased from less than 200 ten years ago to more than 700 today.

The findings of the study were consistent with those of a 2012 report that established a link between social media use and depression in teens, as Carolyn Gregoire of the Huffington Post pointed out.

A COMPLEX RELATIONSHIP

Speaking to the Huffington Post, the study’s lead author Dr. Hugues Sampasa-Kanyinga appeared to have not drawn any big conclusions from the study. Correlation, as any professional researcher knows, does not equal causation.

“The relationship between the use of social networking sites and mental health problems is complex,” the psychologist said. “Simple use of social networking sites cannot fully explain by itself the occurrence of mental health problems.”

DO DEPRESSED PEOPLE MOSTLY USE SOCIAL MEDIA OR DOES SOCIAL MEDIA DEPRESS PEOPLE?

While it is thought by many that social media itself may have a negative impact, it remains a possibility that people with mental health issues use social media more often than those without them.

“It could be that teens with mental health problems are seeking out interactions as they are feeling isolated and alone,” Dr. Hugues Sampasa-Kayinga e-mailed the aggregate site. “Or they would like to satisfy unmet needs for face-to-face mental health support.”

#Facebook vs. #Twitter on the news front. Who gets your vote as the source for your breaking news? - http://clapway.com/2015/08/12/facebook-to-compete-with-twitter-with-new-breaking-news-app-245/

Facebook has been in the news quite a bit as of late — mostly in regards to testing new ideas like its giant drone that will spread free Wi-Fi over certain parts of the world, or testing out their new storefront. Now, it looks like Facebook is getting ready to compete toe-to-toe with Twitter as the company is looking into developing a news application that functions quite a bit like Twitter.

Not So Fast

It’s definitely true that a lot of people rely on Twitter for announcements and breaking news, but there are a lot of other social features that allows users to interact with each other. The Facebook app that Business Insider reported about is more focused on the business nature. That means users won’t necessarily be interacting with each other, and they won’t be creating content either.

Instead, Business Insider suggests that the app will be a “broadcast-only experience.” Facebook will only be allowing partnered companies to produce content. Users will follow various topics they are interested in and receive instant alerts that are limited to 100 characters — slightly less than Twitter’s 140 limitation.

Facebook Hopes to Clean Up the User Experience

One aspect that Facebook hopes will give it an advantage over Twitter is reliant on how Facebook’s new app, currently in alpha, will curate posts better. Information about the app is still pretty vague, but Facebook is hoping that news won’t dissipate into the social masses as quickly as it happens on Twitter.

Facebook believes that this provides new users with a bad experience since the more people they follow, the faster their Twitter feed moves. Some users may never see a post on Twitter unless the tweet is retweeted by someone else or the original tweeter, but with Facebook’s new app, news will stay relevant for longer.

Facebook Is Trying to Stay Relevant

We’ll know more about Facebook’s new app as the company gets ready to share more details about it. This app is just the latest addition to the company’s rapidly expanding suite of apps that it hopes will help maintain its relevancy moving forward. Facebook also owns Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Haha or LOL? Studies Show How We Represent Laughter On Facebook - http://clapway.com/2015/08/10/haha-or-lol-studies-show-how-we-laughter-on-facebook123/

Whether you are looking at a ‘laugh out loud’ video on Youtube or your friend’s birthday album on Facebook, everyone loves to go online to have a good laugh. What’s even more interesting, is just how we express our upmost amusement when online.

A new study on Facebook compared how often people use the popular terms “lol,” “haha,” “hehe,” or an emoji (also known as e – laughs) to represent laughter. It may be no surprise to hear that the most obvious sounding “haha”, and similar variations such as “hahaha” and “haaaaaahaaaa” came out on top. “Haha” is reportedly used around 51.4% of the time, while a simple “lol” was voted as being used just 1.9% during online conversations. The recent rise in emojicons was also evident in the findings, with them being used over 30% of the time online. “Hehe” scored less than 20%.

MEN USE HAHA MORE OFTEN THAN WOMEN

The researchers at Facebook studied anonymous posts from the last week of May 2015 and found that 15 percent of people on Facebook included some sort of laughter in a post or comment. While 52 percent stuck to the same expression, around 20 percent switched between two different variations. The majority of men were found to use “haha” most frequently while women were more inclined to use emojis to express their laughter, as well as using the term “lol” in conversations.

CHICAGO LOVE THEIR EMOJIS

The expression of laughter on Facebook also varied depending on the location of the user. Emoji use was the highest in Chicago, Illinois. The areas that used “lol” the most were Seattle and San Francisco. “Lol” wasn’t the preferred or most frequent expression of laughter for any city on Facebook, but in Phoenix, Arizona it was reportedly used the most.

15 PERCENT OF PEOPLE USED AT LEAST ONE E-LAUGH THAT WEEK

According to the Facebook study, roughly 15 percent of those analysed used at least one e-laugh.  Other findings stated that 46 percent of the group only posted one laugh during the week and 85 percent of them posted fewer than five laughs. The study also analyzed the different kinds of laughs that people used and found that 52 percent used a single type of laugh.

Laughter is great both online and offline. It is good exercise too. Whether you are prone to an emoji or two, a simple “lol” or a “hahahaha”, make sure you keep it up. A day with laughter is the best kind.

LinkedIn Makes You Wait Three Days to Download Contacts... And People Aren"t Happy - http://clapway.com/2015/07/26/linkedin-makes-you-wait-three-days-to-download-contacts-and-people-arent-happy597/

LinkedIn has caused quite a storm within the past couple of days. They removed the option to instantly download contacts. Any user of the popular professional social network, one of over one million, were more than a little annoyed to find that while contact exporting was still available, a wait of up to three days has now been implemented.

LINKEDIN USERS HAVE MADE IT CLEAR ON TWITTER THAT THEY DON’T LIKE THIS

LinkedIn users have since been upset by the fact that change was implemented without any announcements or warnings. However, the company has since managed to turn this around by quickly after listening to a long stream of complaints on Twitter.

Previously, the “export contact” feature provided ease to users because it allowed them to export details such as names, phone numbers, email addresses, and uploaded documents, in both CSV and VCF formats. LinkedIn says that users will receive an email within the next 72 hours containing a link to download the archive when it is ready.

LINKEDIN VP OF PRODUCT MANAGEMENT EXPLAINED ON TWITTER

LinkedIn’s VP of Product Management explained later that the removal of the regular download option was part of their ongoing efforts to combat the incorrect exporting of member’s data by third parties. However, as a result of the member uproar, the instant CSV exporting is back, but users are not sure for how long. LinkedIn’s customer service team announced that the return of the instant download option is not going to be around in its current form forever and it will disappear again only when the alternative download methods are sped up.

LINKEDIN: GOAL IS TO MAKE INFORMATION AVAILABLE IN MINUTES

They also said that their goal is to make as much of the information, including connection information, available within minutes. They will keep the CSV connections tools available until they can reach that goal. Other data items will also be extended in an archive that might take longer to process. They will then turn off the tool again as a part of their ongoing efforts. It is not clear what the form future changes will take or when they might be implemented. For now, instant contacts exporting is back, for now.

You Can Now Post HD Quality Videos to Vine - http://clapway.com/2015/07/12/you-can-now-post-hd-quality-videos-to-vine543/

NEW VINE UPDATES MADE IT EASY TO find, play, and share VINES

The famous six-second (actually, six-and-a-half-second) Twitter video service, Vine, just updated its app to make it easier to search for popular video creators. Twitter has also brought a new way to find other Vines that will interest you by typing specific phrases. Along with this, there is now an easier way to search for Viners you want to discover and to find things you are interested by typing phrases instead of hashtags.

If you want to search for more Viners to enjoy, then open the new “Suggested Viners” section. This “Suggested Viners” section was curated by the website’s team to make sure that the Viners on the list really have worthy content.

Those on the Vine list are the creators of the famous six-second videos that users share common interests with and are hand selected by Vine’s Team. The new features also allow for you to search for other Vines that will interest you by typing certain phrases. This is an upgrade from the previous version that only allowed for usernames and hashtags.

VINE NO LONGER RUNS IN ITS ORIGINAL 480P

In addition to all of the new search updates, Vine also now features the ability for iOS users to view content in 720p, up from the original 480p that Vines started out in. Uploads will all be done in 720p HD. In order to get these features on Android, iOS, and Windows-run phones, you must update the Vine app. The new features can only be accessed by updating the Vine app, and then going to the “Your Content” section. Vine also recently began allowing users to link their address books and Twitter accounts outside of their immediate friends and Twitter networks.

INSTAGRAM DOES AND VINE DOES TOO

All of the updates to the Vine app are similar to the to the ones made to Instagram. Instagram’s latest update allowed it to support 1080p image and video uploads on its app. The fact that the two services’ updates fell within such short time of each other is no coincidence – Instagram is owned by part of Twitter’s competition, Facebook.

3 Easy to Use Apps for the Amateur Photographer - http://clapway.com/2015/07/03/3-easy-to-use-apps-for-the-amateur-photographer746/

We have mini-cameras at our fingertips on a daily basis; therefore, we have all become amateur photographers. Thanks to Instagram and Flickr, it’s so easy to have a gallery to display your work on, and it might even make you famous. Many “local” celebrities have become famous due to their ability to create, edit and share images, and there are dedicated accounts on each site created just for those images. So how can we become better at editing our images? As always, there’s an app for that!

We all know about Photoshop, and we can choose a cool filter on Instagram to add a unique touch, but are there any other apps out there that might work better for you? Of course there are! Here are my three favorite apps for the amateur photographer in you!

Polarr Photo Editor

This revolutionary app is taking photo editing to a whole new level. In geek-speak, it’s using web technology rather than the normal coding to bring you software that is user-friendly and gives you more options in improving your photos. The technology used to create this app is innovative and hasn’t been used before. This, out of many apps for the amateur photographer has climbed its way to the top of Apple’s “best new app” list. And the best part about this awesome, new app? It’s FREE, for now, anyway.

PicLab

Personally, this is my favorite of apps for the amateur photographer. PicLab not only gives you the ability to add filters to your photos, but it gives you more editing options similar to Photoshop. You can add and customize words and themes, create collages, and add stickers or overlays to your photo. You can alter the light of the photo with light-leaks, or draw on an image to create a unique look and feel. Virtually anything is possible with this FREE app.

VSCO Cam

This easy to use and FREE photography app gives you an incredibly versatile tool package and various presets to help you edit your photos quickly and more efficiently. VSCO Cam gives you more filter packs than the usual photo-editing app and allows you to adjust each preset, with or without the filter added.

Don’t give up on your love for taking pictures just because one app was confusing or too simple and featureless for you! There are dozens of photo-editing apps for the amateur photographer, and some might work better than others for you and your style of photography. Many of the apps are free so check them out and see what works best for you!

Who Remembers Life Before Smartphones, Facebook, and Instagram? - http://clapway.com/2015/07/01/who-remembers-life-before-smartphones-facebook-and-instagram876/

Life before smartphones and social media took over the world (wide web) went on just fine less than ten years ago. In the days of my childhood in the nineties, there was no Facebook messenger to socialise on, nor was there Tinder to efficiently swipe right and meet the man or woman (in some very rare occasions) of your dreams. Before smartphones, all mobiles with a color screen were considered smart, and as for filtering the life out of a photograph you took on Instagram to represent your day – who knew photographic filters on a mobile phone would even exist? Let’s take a trip down memory lane to reminisce about what life was like before the internet and all it’s social media offspring swept us all off our feet and into a stationary, techno-dependent existence.

Msn Messenger

Who else used to run home from school and wait for 30 minutes for the computer to load and for the internet connection to last before someone made a phone call and stopped your creative MSN Messenger emoji name in mid track? While many of my friends had heard hitting, emotional song lyrics as their display name (to prove to their friends just how hard it was being a teenager), mine was “rEmeMber me, I am gOing to Be fAmous” (flower emoji, heart emoji). So very modest I have to say. Thankfully for my generation, it is impossible to retrieve old MSN conversations and hilariously embarrassing names. Phew.

Nokia 3310

If you owned this phone, then you can guess how old I am. This was my first phone when I was ten years old. At the time, it was strange that I had a phone so early (I just wanted it so I could dress it in different skins – I had outgrown Barbies). As a result of having nobody else to text other than my parents and friends older siblings, I spent a lot of time playing Snake. Far too much time perhaps – especially as I never got past level 3.

Polyphonic Ringtones

At the back of your favourite magazines, you could ring up a sketchy sounding company on the telephone from your home and order a ringtone that made your phone sound like the winning contender from X Factor. At over $6 a time, they weren’t cheap to buy. However, I had Black Eyed Peas waiting to play when I got a call. Unfortunately, I only ever got texts. I did phone myself once though and it did sound worthy of the $6. Phew.

Camera Phones

Now, I know that camera phones are a basic essential today, but it wasn’t until I was 16 that I got my first pixilated photo taken from my mobile. I couldn’t believe it. I remember thinking, “Oh I wonder what will come next” – maybe you will be able to watch television on your mobile. Today, with the help of wifi – you can indeed do that too. Camera phones used to require a lead to plug into you computer in order to print them out or change your MSN display photo. There was no filtering, apart from maybe changing it to black and white on Paint. Can you believe we couldn’t even email them to each other

Who else wonders what life will be like in the next ten years? Today’s generation don’t even know what it was like without wifi, let alone the Internet. With all the new apps and social media sites at our hands, anything seems possible. Everything, except for going back to life before smartphones, that is. That seems a very strange, slow world. How did we survive it?

What do you think about the Facebook Messenger app? - http://clapway.com/2015/06/29/facebook-messenger-and-whatsapp-same-same-but-different-234/

Facebook is now allowing anyone to use Messenger, even if they’re not a part of the 1.44 billion users social network. This is Facebook’s latest step in making the messaging app an independent and self-sustaining product.

MESSENGER NOW JUST LIKE WHATSAPP

Just like for WhatsApp, to sign up to Messenger without a Facebook account, a name, phone number and a photo will be enough. Facebook wrote on the news section of its website that with Messenger, they’ve been dedicated to creating the best messaging experience possible for users.

With this update, more people will be able to enjoy the innumerable features available on the app, regardless of their social media preferences. The option, however, is currently available only in Canada, the United States, Venezuela and Peru.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Now, on Messenger’s initial screen, users will find a “Not on Facebook?” option. Subsequently, one can sign up, without necessarily being a member of the social network. The app will create a friend list based on phone book contacts for users to share photos, videos, enjoy group chats, and make voice and video calls with their network of friends.

COMPETITION ON THE RISE

Facebook already owns photo-sharing app Instagram and messaging app, WhatsApp which has now increasingly similar features to Messenger, such as sending photos, stickers and videos, group chats, voice and video calling.

But the competition is getting fierce. Facebook Messenger must increasingly play the game with other popular messaging services such as WeChat and SnapChat.

Consequently, the company wants to turn Messenger into one of its most vibrant and dynamic components.

The recent strategic move to make Messenger accessible to virtually everyone will help Facebook to make the app available to all new kind of users who will join a ‘global army’ of 700 million people who already use the chat service.

Facebook recently opened its Messenger doors to developers, as well as businesses, allowing them to use the app to handle customers. The company also unveiled a number of new features and objectives for its different apps at its annual meeting. Guess what? The spotlight is increasingly on Messenger.

It’s not enough to have Facebook’s Messenger app without a full charge. Lepow Poki External Battery Charger could help with that. Check out more tech-related news at Clapway Trends:

Instagram App to Revamp “Search” and “Explore” Tabs, Showcasing More Real-Time Moments - http://clapway.com/2015/06/24/instagram-app-to-revamp-search-and-explore-tabs-showcasing-more-real-time-moments987/

The technology world is always a-changing, and Instagram is no different. The immensely popular app Instagram is going through two updates right now, which may appear major to some die-hard Instagram admirers and users: a revamp of their “search” and “explore” features in order to show more real-time moments. In addition, a section including a cornucopia of collections will be included during the revamp, with attention-grabbing events and users taking over and being updated often.

What the new “Search” feature for Instagram will include

With the “search” feature, Instagram users will be able to look for photos and videos from particular locations. These locations can range in order to cater to anybody’s needs. The pros for users taking advantage of this feature are endless, as well as full of ongoing possibilities: planning that next getaway, looking up where to go to university, what great restaurant to eat at next, or even looking for a place to retire at once that age hits. Also included is being the ability to go through searches, so users can either look for people, places, or tags.

What the new “Explore” feature for Instagram will comprise of

The revamped “Explore” feature will be following Twitter’s suit, in which it will be curating real-time material to its users, from events to conversations. In the video and picture-based apps blog post, they write, “Through trending Tags and trending Places, you can experience moments like #bonnaroo or #fathersday, from every perspective.” Instagram’s overall main purpose, especially in revamping their search feature, is to give its 200 million users access to different kinds of content from all over the world. This is whether they like it or not with just a touchscreen tap (or swipe) away.

How the revamped “Search” and “Explore” feature for Instagram compares with character-based app Twitter

Although Twitter is mostly a character-based app and does not emphasize pictures and videos as much as Instagram, that does not mean that both of them don’t compare in certain things. When it comes to the picture and video-based app revamping both of their prominent feature, Instagram is following Twitter’s methods. How is that exactly? By updating mostly their “Explore” feature in order for users to witness real-time events and conversations, between other users, as discussed above. Twitter may have already established the curating of real-time conversations for many years. Furthermore, now that Instagram is now doing the same and they are also picture and video-based, will they once again continue to take struggling Twitter on a run for its money? Most definitely.

Enjoy Instagram’s new features more safely and conveniently on a phone with a Halo Back smart case.
