SEGA Slipped Up on Tumblr And Fans Are Very Grateful - http://clapway.com/2016/01/21/sega-slipped-up-on-tumblr-and-fans-are-very-grateful-123/

SEGA is hinting gamers about not one but two upcoming releases in the West, as confirmed by their Facebook, YouTube and Tumblr accounts.

PC Gamer Weekender Brought Up the Valkyria Chronicles Remaster, and SEGA Has Confirmed It

SEGA hinted at a possible western release of the Valkyria Chronicles Remaster. The game is coming out in the PS4 port of the PS3 in Japan on February 10. In the video recapping the PC Gamer Weekender, SEGA European Community Manager made a bunch of announcements regarding eastern and western releases of games.

SEGA spoke about Total War: WARHAMMER, special discounts on games such as Tembo the Badass Elephant and other big perks that the game developer is releasing on different platforms. The official announcement on whether or not the Valkyria Chronicles Remaster will be available in the West is expected to come next week.

SEGA Also Slipped Hints on A Different Game on Facebook

In the company’s Facebook page, a message went live that alarmed some classics fans. To be exact, the company said that ‘if you’re a fan of the classics, you might want to tune in tomorrow for our new game announcement’. Chilling stuff!

What could this mean? Well, 2016 marks the 25th anniversary since the inception of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. After the company released the SEGA 3D Classics Archives 2 for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan last year, it’s possible they could be fully revamping the series.

The Mystery Deepens on Tumblr

SEGA hasn’t made any announcements regarding how they’re going to celebrate Sonic’s 25th birthday, but this might just be a clue. A similar message was found in the tags of a similar post on Tumblr. The game developer reblogged a picture of NFL player C. J. Anderson wearing a Sonic the Hedgehog shirt and included the following in the tags: ‘We have something coming up in February that some of you will be interested. But we can’t talk about it yet! Don’t tell anyone you saw this hint in the Tumblr tags – okay?’

We’re going to go ahead and put our money on either a bunch of new Sonic merch hitting retailers or a new Sonic the Hedgehog game. Either way, it’s going to be an amazing year for SEGA, and fans can’t wait.

Facebook Slammed for Illegal Actions, Are Tumblr and Reddit Next? - http://clapway.com/2016/01/15/facebook-slammed-for-illegal-actions-are-tumblr-and-reddit-next-123/

Facebook has been taken to German courts a handful of times, and one of them has ruled that their ‘friend finder’ feature is illegal. Is Tumblr next?

Court Clapway

German Court Calls Social Media Network ‘Intrusive’ and a ‘Nuisance’

The promotion for ‘friend finder’ was deemed intrusive, and Facebook was accused of not informing users about the feature well enough. The German court also upheld the claims made in 2014 and 2012 by two lower Berlin courts. This confirms that Facebook indeed violated German laws on data protection, and engaged in unfair trade practices by using deceptive marketing and advertising methods.

‘Friend finder’ allows Facebook access into user’s contact lists and sends them invitations to join the social media platform. These invitations, naturally, were seen as both intrusive and something of a nuisance. The German court agrees.

Social Media Network Found Guilty of Advertising Harassment

In 2010, Facebook was hit with a lawsuit from the Federation of German Consumer Organizations, which accused the social media platform of the very crime. The German court has found Facebook guilty of this crime, and also noted how Facebook does not inform users properly on the way their data is handled.

German Authorities Expect Similar Rulings if Tumblr or Reddit Ignore Privacy

The Federation of German Consumer Organizations has happily welcomed the verdict, saying that other platforms will face similar consequences if they ignore German privacy laws. Many firms use vague advertising or intrusive messages to attract new users, but they better think twice if they want to be big in the German market. If platforms like Tumblr and Reddit hope to make it, then they have to make sure never to make these mistakes.

Facebook has gotten into a lot of trouble in regards to privacy. Two years ago, company researchers were accused of toying with the emotions of as much as 700,000 users as an experiment. Last year, Facebook was accused of purposefully bugging their Android app to test how many users would try to get back into the platform. This was happening in Australia, Latin America and the European and Asian regions. The experiment is measly in accordance of the National Security Agency’s PRISM surveillance program, which allows companies to access user data and hand it to third parties for research and development.

Apple Tumblr and Facebook Collaborate for New Live Photos - http://clapway.com/2015/12/28/apple-tumblr-and-facebook-collaborate-for-new-live-photos-123/

The latest widget out of Apple just made it to Tumblr and Facebook  The platforms now supports Apple’s moving picture feature Live Photos. The only other devices that support Live Photos is the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

What is Apple Live Photos?

The new feature allows users to take pictures, but it also records a few frames before the moment the picture is taken and a few frames after. It also records sound. They can be viewed as both images and videos, and they can even be translated to GIFs. Still photos are no longer still with this new feature.

The one drawback to this feature is that it’s been pretty exclusive to Apple’s iPhone 6s series and iOS 9. There aren’t any third party apps that support Live Photos or sharing just yet.

Tumblr and Facebook Change the Game

Famous for bringing moving pictures to the internet spotlight, Tumblr has announced that they’ll be the first web platform to support Apple’s moving Live Photos. Any Live Photos uploaded onto the social media platform will feature Live Photo’s circular bottom when viewed from a Tumblr gallery. iPhone 6s and 6s Plus owners can tap the icon to view the moving image. Users with iOS 9 in older Apple devices can tap and hold the icon for viewing.

Live Photos on Facebook Isn’t Available to Everyone Yet

Facebook just joined the ranks to support this new feature. The update hasn’t rolled out to all regions yet. Facebook has declared that they will release support for this in a few waves for expedited troubleshooting. Those who do have the update available will be able to choose Live Photos from their ‘Photo’ posts on Facebook. The lower right corner of the chosen photo should have a ‘Live’ button that can be switched on and off.

Update Will Be Widespread In the First Part of 2016

Apple Live Photos will bring a few changes to the game in social media. Tumblr and a few other choice websites are well-known for featuring mostly gifs on posts. Bringing them to social media will bring the magic of Tumblr to Facebook. This will make popularity rise for both platforms, though Facebook might see a higher increase in traffic because of the novelty.

Tumblr Slammed Down Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram with this New Feature - http://clapway.com/2015/12/11/tumblr-slammed-down-twitter-pinterest-and-instagram-with-this-new-feature/

Tumblr has taken advantage of the new feature that Apple has opened up. Opening this new feature to their users will put them ahead of Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. The feature that was added by them is known as Live Photos.

2. Tumblr Live Photos Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram

APPLE OPENS UP LIVE PHOTOS FEATURE

This is a very cool feature that Apple opened up to the public. They introduced it for their smartphones using the iOS 9.1 operating system. This would be the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus smartphones. Basically, Apple opened this Live Photos feature to make it so developers could share Live Photos. However, what exactly is this feature?

WHAT THE LIVE PHOTOS FEATURE IS THAT TUMBLR ADDED

This Live Photos feature is what you can imagine it is. It allows users to capture moving images. This will allow users to be able to include movement and sound into their photos. This adds a lot of diversity to image taking. Tumblr mentions how all users have to do to use this is to update the app’s latest version. When this is done, the feature will be available to the users. Sharing these photos will work the exact same way as any normal photo would. The only subtle alteration is users will see a special icon on any photo that is live. This will make them easy to find when looking through images.

2. Tumblr Live Photos

TUMBLR ALSO ADD USES FOR 3D TOUCH

First of all, 3D Touch basically allows the live photo to come to life. The image must be pressed and then it will reveal all the animation and sound. However, the company has added more uses to this feature. The company points out that this feature will now play a role in searching across their domain. Using the 3D Touch when searching for something will initiate an avatar showing a preview. It will be done the same way that it would be done to animate a photo.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR TWITTER, PINTEREST, AND INSTAGRAM

Tumblr has positioned themselves above Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram after this one. Tumblr was the first major social networking service to implement this feature into their domain. This will now give users an extra incentive to switch over to them. As of right now Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram do not support this feature, but they might want to soon. This is such a cool feature that all three of these services need to take a page out of Tumblr’s book and implement it.

FACEBOOK ANNOUNCES WHAT TWITTER, PINTEREST, AND INSTAGRAM NEED TO

Facebook is certainly not waiting to take advantage of this great new feature provided by Apple. They announced that later this year they are going to update their app to support Live Photos. No specific date was stated, they just said it would be available for their users within the next year. Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest need to follow in Facebook’s steps and do the same. Live Photos is certainly a feature that needs to be present for all major social networking services.

KEEP ON EYE ON TWITTER, PINTEREST, AND INSTAGRAM IN THE FUTURE

It is not a guarantee, but it would be a surprise for these three services to not add this feature soon. There is no reason to believe that they would just allow Tumblr, and now Facebook, to have an advantage that they do not have. This is especially considering that Live Photos is a feature that Apple is opening to any developer that wants it. It is hard to believe a scenario in which Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram would not want to add Live Photos to their domain. Keep an eye on these three in the future.

Tumblr GIFs Makes Giffing Easier than Ever - http://clapway.com/2015/11/18/making-tumblr-gifs-is-easier-than-ever123/

Tumblr GIFs are now easier to make than ever before with Tumblr’s new GIF Maker feature. Currently available for iOS, the social networking website has brought out a tool that’s built in onto the mobile app and allows users to make short clips out of their content.

Tumblr GIFs Have Always Been A Pain to Make

A lot of Tumblr content revolves around Tumblr GIFs taken from widely known and also little known TV shows and films. Most GIF makers use Photoshop for ultimate quality and the sharpest movement, but there have been tools popping up on the internet such as Giphy Cam to make the animated clips. This is the trend that Tumblr is following. GIF Maker is a tool goes into users’ photo libraries and fishes for videos and burst mode photos that can be transformed into GIFs.

The Tumblr GIFs Maker tool makes it easy to crop, zoom in or out, loop footage and even add a rebound effect to make it run backwards. Users can manipulate speed as they wish. The tool automatically browses through users’ camera rolls for footage that can be turned into a GIF, which according to the website, is a lot more common than people would think, so they’re willing to take Tumblr GIFs to the next level.

Tumblr GIF Maker Isn’t Cut Out for Fandom Content

While Tumblr GIFs are famous for multifandom content, this tool is more for personal use. It’s best for making GIFs out of selfies.

The tool is live only on iOS for now, but Tumblr has announced that an update for the Android app is coming soon.

Tumblr Instant Messaging Feature Released - http://clapway.com/2015/11/12/tumblr-instant-messaging-feature-released123/

Tumblr users have recently had to suffer through a series of painful updates, but the new Tumblr Instant Messaging feature may bring them some respite. After the elimination of tag tracking and the incorporation of Tumblr Search, Tumblr Instant Messaging comes as a welcome change.

Tumblr - Clapway

In this new update, Tumblr users will have a more personalized way of interacting with one another. Although the website has made its mark for having a different communication process — the ask/replies method, this comes as a welcome change to users who are looking to have a truly private conversations. Tumblr Instant Messaging has been deployed to only a certain amount of users in a makeshift beta test, and these blogs are allowed to invite 50 other blogs into the system per day. Soon enough, the website announced, Tumblr Instant Messaging will be available to everyone come December.

Tumblr Instant Messaging is Available on the Web and on the Mobile App

The new feature, like Facebook Messenger and other IM platforms, appears in the lower right corner for the desktop version and on on the upper right corner for mobile users, without obscuring the Dashboard. It doesn’t yet support stickers, file sharing, emojis or GIFs, but come December this will certainly change. There’s even buzz that Tumblr will allow for post sharing.

Tumblr Instant Messaging is Not for Anons

The new Tumblr Instant Messaging feature doesn’t allow for anonymous messages, since it looks to replace Fan Mail essentially. Users can up their privacy by making it so only followed blogs can send messages. Tumblr, which is owned by Yahoo, is looking more and more of a Medium look alike, and though response has been mixed, these changes will hopefully make Tumblr experience better.

#LiveText is #Yahoo"s new answer to #better #connection in the #DigitalAge - http://clapway.com/2015/07/30/yahoo-launches-the-frankenstein-of-messaging-apps-and-its-called-livetext-342/

On Wednesday, Yahoo announced that it would be releasing a new messaging app that takes the best part of all the messaging apps before it. It’s called Livetext and it lets users see each other but not hear each other.

Yahoo’s Frankenstein

Livetext takes features from FaceTime, Skype, Snapchat, Meerkat, and Periscope and combines them to create a messaging app that doesn’t exist to compete with these platforms but complement them.

Adam Cahan, senior vice president of video, design, and emerging products of Yahoo, believes that audio can be inhibiting in some situations where you may want to see who you are communicating with, but can’t audibly talk to them.

With that in mind, Livetext allows users to chat via text and emojis like Periscope, it doesn’t archive media or other files like Snapchat, and it organizes contact lists and friend quests similar to Facebook Messenger and Snapchat.

Yahoo Doesn’t Believe Livetext is a Competitor to Its Peers

Cahan believes that Livetext serves a niche that will be carved out once people begin to see how useful it can be. If a user is commuting to work via public transportation and they want to FaceTime someone, it can be difficult to accomplish in such a noisy environment. Similarly, there are sometimes when a user doesn’t want to communicate solely via text and may want to see who they are talking to. Situations like these are what Yahoo hopes users will take advantage of by using Livetext.

“And what we found in our user studies and testing was that they found new times to use the product, starting to engage more and more frequently, and having more and more conversations on our service. They definitely get it,” said Cahan.

Livetext Will be Launching July 30

Last quarter, Yahoo reported that 20% of its revenue came from mobile. Historically, it hasn’t been interested in pursuing many social services, but it looks like that may soon begin to change as Yahoo bolsters its communication services with Livetext.

Yahoo said users in the United States and four other countries can begin to download the app on their Android and iOS devices on thursday.

Tumblr Unveils Tumblr TV Exclusively for GIF-Watching - http://clapway.com/2015/06/26/tumblr-unveils-tumblr-tv-exclusively-for-gif-watching876/

Be on the lookout, internet users!

Tumblr has just unveiled Tumblr TV, which will be filled with nothing but GIFs, GIFs, GIFs, meant for either the utterly curious or complete time wasters.

How exactly does Tumblr TV work if featuring only GIFs?

Tumblr TV is available for access by everyone, whether they have a Tumblr account or not. At the moment, it is only accessible on desktops, but rumors are that the company is working on trying to make Tumblr TV work on mobile devices as well. According to reports, the new feature will work in full-screen mode and also offer “player controls like play, pause, forward, and backward.” The popular and well-known graphics will be playing in a loop either once or several times, before a different one plays. These GIFs will be coming from various Tumblr users, and those viewing the new feature can also search for them and even repost onto their accounts.

Tumblr’s motives and main purpose in releasing Tumblr TV

Tumblr’s main purpose in releasing this new feature, Tumblr TV, is to continue to capitalize and take full advantage of the growing popularity of GIFs and internet users either creating, reposting, or generally being obsessed with them. The company informs us that Tumblr TV is part of a long-term effort to expand access to one of Tumblr’s most popular features, the animated GIF. Realistically speaking, this feature may be unique, but it can also be seen as nothing more than a bunch of random, repetitive GIFs to goad at. Buy hey, it is the year 2015 in the age of information, social media, and oversharing after all, so there are always new GIFs being made by an obscene amount of people.

Hooray for the curious and for those who appear to have too much time on their hands to waste

Social media, and Tumblr specifically, has made it their mission to find ways for internet users to do something with their time, whether that’s seen as wasteful or not. Sure, social media helps with bringing together lost connections and friends, as well as significant others, even from far away. With Tumblr TV set to become a popular new feature, just how much social bonding will there be if there is nothing but aimless gawking at the computer screen?
